STEEP

Pros:
>Nice world - looks like SSX backcountry
>Good graphics
>Decent steering controls

Cons:
>Shitty menus and UI
>Lack of direction - kind of hard to find best suited events
>G-force system is annoying
>Spins and flips are awkward
>Generic tone and real world branding

Overall I find a lot of it frustrating, but I keep coming back. I hope they change the g-force system and add in a trick call-out. Pretty cool though.

Please don't compare this to SSX.

Doing tricks got a bit better for me when I switched off trick safety, kept having points where the game was deciding I was too low to trick. I'm landing head first in the ground a lot more but it's more fun.

Generally the races are more fun than the trick challenges to me, never been a fan of point contests. Also I prefer the skiing to the snowboarding so I'm glad you can do the challenges with both.

Never played SSX though so maybe I just don't have any point of comparison. Tempted to pick it up when it goes on sale, probably not at full price though.

>wear the caribou helmet
>turn off the default music
>go down the slopes to the Ski Sunday theme

I said it looked like the backcountry parts of SSX, not that it played like that.

You're pretty spot on, though I would also note that the lack of loading screens for fast travel for the most part is a really cool addition.
Comfy game though, just not sure if I'd buy it full price. Anyone playing on Xbone?

Maybe it doesn't have loading screens but there are significant pauses when you go to a different part of the map, or restart a particularly long run. That might just be the PS4 being shit though.

Your right. SSX is garbage

They really should explain g-force better in the tutorial.

It's pretty comfy. I love just roaming around. The trick syste, does seem kind of shallow though, like getting golds is super easy once you learn the timing of spin and landing. Time trials are way harder, especially when they involve ridiculous drops like Believe.
Questions:
A. How exactly do you get good times with the paraglider? Like are you supposed to accelerate off updrafts?
B. It's there any reason to use skis over snowboard? Seems like snowboards go faster, land tricks easier, can go up slopes that skis can't. Do you get more points for backwards tricks?

Can someone explain to me how the G-force system works?

I thought it was somehow part of the lifebar when I first saw it, but apparently, it's something else.

It is your health.

Land with your board facing the direction you're travelling to avoid losing any. Also, really high jumps will always drain g-force, so you have to avoid those.

can i play this by myself? or is this some online/mmo thing?

How do I race with other people in real time?

Also, rocks bad. Try not to land on them, even if you have a good angle.
It's an open world snow sport game. You run around looking for drop points and courses. It's always online so you can run into people in world, join with them and challenge them.
I don't know if there are any actual races, just time trials.

>you can run into people in world, join with them and challenge them.

am i forced to interact with these people? can they get in my way? i really dont care about mmo shit in games anymore, im just tired of it.

No, everything I've seen can be done solo. They do have minor collision properties? Not a lot but both players and computer racers sort of occupy space and while you wont crash if you hit them, you are sort of pushed aside.

How does it compare to SNOW?

I honestly had a good time with that game for a while.

Really I just want to fly close as fuck to mountains with a wingsuit.
I used to do that a ton on GTA 5 with the flying cheat. It was fucking fun, though there wasn't very many places to do proximity flying.

Proximity flying is basically it's own course type where you have to fly low/through tight spaces to get points.

Way better than Snow. Reminds me of the SSX that was on 360 and PS3, but less arcadey. The wingsuit is fun as fuck.

You don't get to do any type of free roam with it?

I always imagined you'd just get to pick a spot/height and go for it.

What happens when you go off course?

No, you can. The game is open world. You can go wherever and duck around. You can also create your own challenges using runs you just did while free roaming. You switch between board, skis, wingsuit, and parasail at will from a selection wheel.

The entire game is free roam.
It's literally "Here's the alps, go snowboard/ski/paraglide/wingsuit". You don't have to do any courses if you don't want to.

Just tried the wing suit in free roam and it's pretty cool. I it was like SSX 2012 and you could switch to of after a huge snowboard jump.

I wish the group system were a bit more intuitive. It's fucking stupid to shoot out twelve invites only for the other guy to send you an invite that you can't respond to for reasons.

It would be pretty cool if you could change sports without stopping, like being able to paraglide super high, switch to snowboard and just drop down onto a slope.

I'm already sick to death of the licensed soundtrack in this. That never happens to me, but the song choices in this are fucking garbage and annoying. Also, ghosts need to be transparent, they block your view constantly and cause me to fuck up. PC version is also filled with cheaters who already broke the leaderboard for the contest to win a real snowboard.

The songs all kinda sound like bootleg royalty free shit. I do like the free roam music, if only for the way it fades in and gets louder as you go faster/land tricks

Beta is fun, but I don't see myself buying this at $60. It already feels repetitive after 6+ hours of playing.

Not really a problem on mine - even when travelling to someone else across the map, it averages around 2-4 seconds

>Trying to paraglide at all
This is just horrendous, I have no idea how the gold times are like twice as fast as me despite hugging the mountain and getting the speed boosts, it's driving me mad.

How the fuck are you supposed to complete Derby - Believe?

Watch the gold guy, he brakes before the first rocky drop, and then jumps.
I've never been able to land the last GIANT drop, but you can crash so fast down the hill that you can recover in time to finish with gold time as long as you don't KO.

>try to do a backflip
>guy does 1 1/2 backflips
>lands on his head

every goddam time. These clunky controls are driving me bonkers

I was interested in this game at first but then they announced it was always online.
What a crock of shit.

how the fuck are you supposed to hit the big drop jump properly. it's angled so awkwardly.

>No actual online races, just asynchronus shit.
>No fucking local multiplayer.
Absolutely unacceptable for any extreme sports game.

half the time my fucking jump doesn't even register. or he does a little hop and i slide over the rocks and i gain all this fucking gforce.
