Ok, seriously

Ok, seriously.

Why the fuck don't they make games anymore

They don't need to.

They get way more than enough shekels from microtransactions and their markets.

They'd rather make money

First post best post
Valve is making an absurd amount of money. The profits from making games would be insignificant and at worst could hurt their reputation

They're making HL3 you dumb fuck

...

...

They make more money taking money from selling other companies' games and even if they made games fans would just bitch.

>this fucking guy

I think no

Oh my sweet Summer child.

I don't think they have any creative talent left nor the incentive to find or keep it.

Its definitely being worked on, along with L4D3

1. Steam constant flow of money reassures that the technically never have to work again

2. They're spending all their funding and research on VR. They've put so much faith in VR they've fired dozens of people and developers who they believe won't serve much of a use in their VR research and made devs that updated CSGO and TF2 to make VR their new number one priority.

If they have no interest in making games anymore, why won't they tell use how Half-Life ends?

Like, literally all they need to do is tweet some cliff notes. Give some fucking closure

>If they have no interest in making games anymore, why won't they tell use how Half-Life ends?
It's their trump card.
Say an giant earthquake eats up Valve HQ and all the DRM servers that host Steam are destroyed and they have nothing left.

All they have to say is "Half-Life 3" and they'll get back their lost wages in no time.

there probably right, but they will soon release cheap alternatives to VR, all they need to do is release motion controllers since they have the gear VR for samsung.

this guy has to be baiting only the mind of a retard can think this far ahead

Valve never made actual games in the first place, all they did was take mods and make profits off of them. Valve are the biggest, greediest hacks in the industry yet everyone still loves them for God knows what reason.

making games takes effort

>reddit

Make steam, get automatic 30% for every single game ever made.
Why would they make games when a few 3rd party AAA games on steam will give them same profits without them doing jack shit.

They make so much money the only reason they have to make it is for fun/ to appeal to fans
seriously tho hl3 when

>fbpb

$$$$$$

Because making games isn't fucking fun.

>spend literally years out of your life toiling over something
>someone releases that exact same thing but x10 better
>back to the drawing board
>it keeps happening
>finally make your work amazing and put it out
>everyone just bitches about it
>fat stupid women bitch about it because there's no fat stupid women in it, fat dipshit men bitch because there is fat stupid women in it
>realize this is your sole consumer base and they would literally buy anything you put out and bitch about anything you put out even if they love it

First post.
Making a game for them is more of a risk than its worth at this point. It took a while but now even the people who hated them for never releasing a 3rd episode don't care anymore. So they really don't have much to gain from developing a game. I'm curious what the old dev team does now though. They must have offered a bunch of retirement packages and just keep everyone else busy running steam or whatever. I never heard of any big layoffs. I just can't shake the thought that there's someone who just makes knife skins and shit over at valve and gets paid stupid money to do so. Fucking most their employees probably play ping pong and browse the Web all day while drinking a Chai latte they got from the in-office cafe.

This
They've worked out that they can just sit back and rake in the cash from Steam sales and ingame cosmetics

they are working on source 2 and new games

The fuck does that mean? Why is it retarded for a company to have some kind of failsafe. Like obviously that's not why they aren't making half life 3 but he's completely right about that being the reason they don't just tell the fans how the game ends. Even if it isn't an earthquake killing their servers or some shit. It could be some sort of competitor killing steam revenue or idk some market crash or some shit, who knows. Regardless of what it is they could then turn around and make half life 3, especially if they refrained from just outright telling everyone how it ends. Only a retard wouldn't think that far ahead.

>Why the fuck don't they make games anymore
They successfully killed the platform they made games for within three years from 2004 (introducing the day one patch to the industry) to 2007 (last AAA non-console port PC release made in Germany).
They turned their day-one-patcher into gamer facebook.
Gamer facebook has left an audience of just 1.3 million people who actually buy new different games on it.
That's 1 % of the gamer facebook total active user base of 135 million.
Not more than 2000 whales are funding the PC exclusive Star Citizen.

They don't make (PC) games, because there is no audience for them anymore.

So what do they do, sit around and collect shekels? They have to be doing something as a company
