Divert resources into Front Mission.

Make the setting medieval fantasy
Make the gameplay turn-based
Have varied characters with different gender, age and design

All three of those things sound awful

>medieval fantasy
No, sf/fantasy

That's what the majority of Final Fantasy games are, if you don't like the series go play something else

make definitive versions for the older games that aren't whatever that horseshit on mobile/steam is

Final Fantasy XVI based on Agni's philosophy
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles 2
Final Fantasy spinoff made by Platinum games

abandon the KH shit

canonically kill lightning in cloud esque fashion

make the next one like the first ff

That's not what it's been for years, gandpa
kill yourself

No more wartime backdrops.

Shit's tired as hell.

>cloud

i ment tidus, friggin auto-correct

World/Story/Characters like FF6 (read: varied but coherent)
Have choice between turn based (comfy/lazy/tactical) or real time (timing/skill/ADHD) combat
bring back a world map and airships to travel around in

with a little of insight and analysis, you could realize that the series began to turn into shit when Nomura took control of other aspects aside from art.

Nomura is a great artist (I really like his style), he is a shit game designer though. Never put an artist to do a job as complex as game design.

3 steps? I just need one, take out Nomura.

this desu

and hows that been working out for SE lately?

More adventure feeling, less contrived stories, actual good waifus.

1) Hire Mistwalker to make Lost Odyssey 2 and call it Final Fantasy
2) Don't release it on any Sony platforms, which will instantly fix the fan base
3) Profit

Industrial fantasy is the best setting, faggot.

>Final Fantasy Tactics
>2
>For mobile devices

OOPS

That's only 1-5 and 9 which is 6/15. Definitely not the majority.

oh yeah, I will take one more step:

-make every game not connected at all. That was a the beauty of FF. Each game was a different world a different setting a different adventure. This is the reason why I really dislike what they did with Legend of Zelda,

>Don't release it on any Sony platforms, which will instantly fix the fan base

In that case don't release it on any Nintendo platforms either.

already done OP

anyone who doesn't realize this is the best FF in years started the series with 7 or 10

Make it handheld only.

They need to be limited by technology to execute a cohesive vision.

...

Keep the huge budgets of today
Revert gameplay and battles back to FF7 style
Profit

If I wanted free-roaming MMORPG shit I'd play World of Warcraft. I want Final Fantasy 10-style goodness back.

Actually I want the battles to be that of FF10. All the other elements of FF7 can stay though.

Just bring back Sakaguchi. He was clearly the only one who had any idea of what he was doing and actually wanted to make great games instead of just selling out to the lowest denominator.

1. add porn ... fixed.

They'll do that at 30

Turn-based
No voice acting
A cohesive plot

1) stop wasting money on terrible pre-game CG movies and anime
2) hire actual writers to make an actual plot with actual characters
3) drop the action rpg kingdom hearts shit

optional, wish-upon-a-star suggestion: make the next main installment a turn-based strategy. games like x-com and FE do well nowadays, do it

>revert back to its roots in terms of gameplay so that its turn-based, simplistic at times yet challenging and strategic when it needs to be
>Then focus time and effort on developing a well fleshed out cast of characters (Heroes and Villains) that help to blend with the setting
>Make the story and game more contained and concise and not so grandiose. This would be to say that these final fantasy games usually use their big budget to design a world that may look interesting within a trailer, but once looked upon in the actual game it seems bland and dull. Instead of trying to create a big towering world they should focus on creating nice cities and areas that are able to capture the player's attention and make them memorable

There you go

fix xv by renaming it to versus xiii
release versus xiii with its original plot and design
apologize to people who waited 10 years

Hire Matsuno and put him in charge

split resources in 3 branches, 1 mainline FF type, 1 large tactical combat style, 1 action adventure kingdom heart style with MORE FF chars

STOP trying to copy other games or to be "number one cutting edge". Just make 2 "good" games a year that will hold the core fans and re-build the brands.

How did you auto correct that far off?

It's too late.
Final Fantasy will be doomed to spin offs, there will be no grandoise Final Fantasy XVI because XV will never recoup its costs.

no they are gonna make these shitty nier and dissida spin offs to make enough money to allow these fucking retards to spend 10+ years designing some shit

Make a spin off that is purely about cute girls doing RPG things involving the main heroines from V-IX
Maybe toss in some Lightning DLC to appeal to the tobleronefags along with general outfit DLC for the whole cast and bam, free money.

>cute girls in FF
>exclude IV
>No Rydia

Understand that every FF is different, and that people have their own opinions

There is no step 2 or 3

Step 1 - Have Yoshitaka Murayama write and direct the next game.
Step 2 - Less focus on graphics and more on NPC development and gameplay.
Step 3 - Have Square execs stop giving 'notes'.

There, I fixed your series.

Optional Step 4 - Actually have the best parts of the old games return. It is not a sin to reuse past ideas.

i just wish they came out with mainline games more frequently. they're way better than most AAA games

Lightning/Refia/Rydia DLC pack
Comes with regular and armor outfits for Lightning, regular and devout outfits for Refia, and child and teen outfits for Rydia.

Make a classic fantasy or steampunk game again, without any of the weeb, korean boy band shit.
Don't spend 10 years making it.

How about one step?

Step 1: Cancel the series outright.

The problem with Final Fantasy isn't one of basic game design.
The biggest flaw with the series is how the name DEMANDS a big budget, high production values, and astronomical expectations.

It's clear with the last few iterations that Square is not only unable but, as time goes on, more and more unwilling to cater to those demands, as budgets tighten and deadlines loom.

The only real solution is to kill it. Let the creative teams go off and do their own thing. Make a NEW name for JRPGs to rally around.

Final Fantasy is so determined now to break the mold with every new game that the name itself is really the only thing holding it back, at this point. If they just dropped it, and the two solid decades of artifice with it, both SE and their customers would be far, FAR better for it.

Get the Bravely Default team to make it, but give them a budget and a scenario writer that won't just repeat the first half of the game a bunch of times.

>Have a professional writer write the story. For the love of God. So much this.
>Get rid of the hair thing, the black leather emo goth thing. They work with low polycount models but don't translate properly with modern graphics. It hurts to see this. I know (think?) this must be popular in Japan, but FF is very lucrative to Western markets and could be moreso.
>Have choosable playable characters.

There's no real secret to it, it just needs decent people in charge. The current team is ancient, it reminds me of George Lucas' reign.

Bring back Ivalice and ATB

rat tits

Play TOLUCT
Copy TOLUCT , Add FF Tropes.
Make FF Great Again.

Go back in time a bit and convince Nomura to stay on and see FFXV through to the end. KH3 can wait another decade

This. Remove the next planned 200 million dollar FF game and distribute that money between 30 medium budget RPGs. Revive Chrono, make a decent Mana game, give the next SaGa game more funding, put more money behind Nier, create a half dozen new IPs. And you'll still have so much money left over, you can advertise all those series (and Dragon Quest) in the west.

Then you can use the scraps to make some Final Fantasy game like World of Final Fantasy or DIssidia that caters to the nostagliafags.

Cancel it.

Finally make a cyberpunk setting.
Branching storyline.
Turn-based combat with depth.
Somewhat wide areas that you can explore (a la Persona 5, but bigger).
Good writing.
Nice atmosphere.

There you go. A good FF game that innovates on the formula, yet does a realistic FF setting while being loyal to older entries.

A typical FF development team spends 90% of its resources on graphics, making gameplay, scenario design and story share 10% of the rest. Flip that around.

There's a reason a game like Suikoden II, made on the budget of a Castlevania game, is still better than any high budget Final Fantasy game. Now imagine what could be done if you had that kind of game design with a FF budget.

>advertise DQ in the west

nigga got jokes

Anyone have advice on how to get into this series?

I played X at a friend's house back in like 2004 and thought it was really...slow I guess and the weird sphere skill thing seemed needlessly complicated. Since then I've just never had the motivation to try to get into the series until now.

WHERE DO I START?

They could. They just won't.

get a shovel
dig a hole
place said franchise in hole

>Make the setting medieval fantasy
As much of a LotR-fag I am, no. This shit is as horribly overdone in vidya as GTA-sandboxes, gritty-ass shooters (now slowly becoming TF2/Overwatch cartoony) and any Bethesda-tier thing in-between.

And no, I think XV going the polar-opposite direction with such a lame uninspired setting is even worse.

>Make the gameplay turn-based
Also overdone and boring. Only acceptable if they try mixing up the formula greatly with some real-time elements so gameplay doesn't become a slog.

>Have varied characters with different gender, age and design
This I'll agree with. VII and IX did it the best IMO, especially in contrast to post-X entries.

the sphere grid in the original was linear
The remaster on steam has two different grids you can use, I think.
If you thought X was slow then the others will be snail paced to you.

More bosses like this

>A typical FF development team spends 90% of its resources on graphics

Source? Because I don't feel like that's the case at all, aside from maybe XIII and XV, but even then I wouldn't be sure

Yes, the games are usually visual benchmarks for their respective console, but they're also absolutely huge games with tons of content, often fantastic soundtracks, and typically try entire new concepts for their battle systems, or at least introduce new features regularly

From someone who has played every game except IX, I say you should just skip the series. But if you really are going to force yourself to try it, I would start with FFVI. You get a taste for the mechanics of the old games and the mechanics of the new games at the same time.

Hire Mistwalker and Monolith (aka the talent that made their games great back in the day) to make it and don't let Nomura anywhere near it. Also keep shit like cars from our world out of it. Don't try to be radically different and evolve the series forward, acknowledge the roots and the franchises strength but without fan service and rehash. Keep the scope realistic. Set expectations accordingly.

IV through IX use what is known as the ATB combat system, which is largely what the series is known for. Stands for Active Time Battle, and the basic idea is that time and turns don't stop while you're using menus. Everything is still turn based but turns happen in real time, which means enemies can still attack while you're scrolling through menus and such. I think every game lets you change the speed of combat as well, the high settings usually being pretty damn fast

Those might be more up your alley

You really think a game like FFVIII and X was different? I mean, just look at all the mini games. Chocobo Racing is so bad, a lazy programmer could have made it in just 1 day. It took more time and effort to make the model for the Chocobo than it did to make the whole mini game.

Make Hiroyuki Ito the director of the franchise.

Nomura is fine though, he generally has cool ideas for mechanics, and fuck you I like his aesthetic. he's just not great at writing stories, though he is good at making them sentimental despite the train wreck writing

Nomura is a guy who shines if he has someone to bounce ideas off of. Someone to straighten him up and bit and polish his good ideas

What's the point of all that?
KH is unrelated to FF, Lightning has nothing to do with FF XIV or XV and if FF XVI is like the first one it would be boring.

Stop being shit
Stop being garbage
Stop being gay

There you go.

>turn-based
>1996 + 20

Seriously, nigger?

a horse that needs a bridle

world is a snorefest for traditionalist to jack off to

1. Let CD Projekt Red make it.

I don't need the other two.

X also has what I'd consider the most diverse boss fights in the series. There's tons of unique mechanics that push past the status quo

VIII has a fairly ambitious reworking of the entire character building concept. It didn't work out that well, but they were clearly interested in trying something original when they could have just rebranded VII with better visuals for easy money

Ah so you want to kill it completely then eh

Add
More
Buckles

when will they add japanese audio to the game? i guess i can just wait for a pc release, but i'd be happy to buy it on ps4 if JP audio wasn't pre-order exclusive

Release
Final Fantasy XV
Now

Pretty much this. Bring Matsuno back and get the XII dream team back together. Limit the execs appeal to teens bullshit.

Nomura killed final fantasy and I don't understand how anybody can like his aesthetic or tropes and still have their opinion taken seriously. I realize kingdom hearts has its fanbase but its popularity is due to Disney characters and FF7 characters in the original. The convoluted storyline is trash even for a Nip game. Also you probably are a Crisis Core fan. I noticed Crisis Core actually has a loyal fan base who are under the delusion that the consensus was it was good even though the actual objective consensus is that it was fucking awful

The new one basically looks like cd projekt made it. Generic open world trash like every other big budget game of late.

>Make the setting medieval fantasy
Unironically wanting more Tolkien shit rehashes.

>Make the gameplay turn-based
There's nothing wrong with this.
But when I have to choose between braindead turn-based, braindead semi-turn-based, and braindead action RPG; I think I want SE to keep exploring the possibilities that ARPG can offer. Leave turn-based games to spin-offs or other series which aren't catered to the casuals and casual FFfags.

>Have varied characters with different gender, age and design
Excellent suggestion.

Kingdom Hearts II FM is one of if the not the best ARPG in the genre. It's got tons of variety in its mechanics, a huge post game with tons of varied boss fights, and one of the best OST's out there.

I've never played Crisis Core

And I totally dig Nomura's art

>X also has what I'd consider the most diverse boss fights in the series. There's tons of unique mechanics that push past the status quo
They're really not that unique. Most of the bosses reuse ideas from previous games. Kill a boss before it pushes you off a cliff. Boss can only be hurt with one specific skill. Etc. To be honest, while I do think Final Fantasy X has more interesting combat than other games in the series, it really isn't that 'deep'. Its got about as much variety as Dragon Quest II or Mother.

If you really break everything down, enemies are all basically three things. Flying, ground or armored. This is mostly because every character on the team needs to have a purpose instead of just spamming magic all day. So armored enemies require Auron or Tidus to take care of. Flying enemies take Lulu or Wakka with their range attack. And Ground enemies are basically weak to anything.

>Final Fantasy
>Tolkien
Aside from using dwarves and elves at times, I can't think of anything in the setting of any FF game that is Tolkienesque. You know Tolkien didn't invent European inspired settings, right?

1) Make it simple again
2) With hand drawn art instead of 3D
3) All Amano style

There's a boss that involves moving your characters around a circular grid to avoid attacks

Almost all of the Seymore fights have unique mechanics, notably his last fight that has you lining up colored orbs to determine what sort of magic he'll cast

The airship boss that switches planes, making him immune to certain attacks, or giving him new abilities depending on where he is

Yunalesca's Megadeath mechanic is fairly unique

I feel like X did a lot more to make its boss fights interesting than most other FF's attempt

Pretty well, considering vii, viii, x, and xiii are the highest selling ones

>Nomura killed final fantasy and I don't understand how anybody can like his aesthetic or tropes and still have their opinion taken seriously.
The guy who only does character designs and did the base story for 7 killed a 15 game series? Are you fucking retarded
>Also you probably are a Crisis Core fan
What does a tabata game have to do with nomura

Customizable main character
Fully customizable outfits, including for party members
Better voice acting
Male looking characters that actually behave like men
Lots of blood and gore
Choice driven story
Co-op multiplayer
Modding community similar to Skyrim
Professional writers for the story and characters
Far less edginess
Virtual Reality support

Any 3 from this list and I'll be satisfied.

You realize you're basically asking for the equivalent of Nintendo to make a new Zelda game that looks like Zelda 1. While the hardcore fans will like it, the casuals who got into Zelda in the last decade will avoid it like the plague.

Like it or hate it, Nomura is the face of Final Fantasy now. Because he brings in the girls and effeminate men. And Amano was only bringing in the effeminate men.

Underrated

>customizable story
>customizable party
>customizable equipment

>just triple A western game my shit up senpai

>balance between wrpg and jrpg is bad
K
