I've never played the original, what am I in for Sup Forums?

Food porn.

Other people might tell you it's a button mashing, good old-fashion 2d arcade beat em up with a good combo system and beautiful artwork, fantastic story, and great voice acting

But at the end of the day, 90% of what you're going to be doing to get more powerful is stuffing your face or finding and mixing food ingredients to stuff your face.

Sexy food!

A better game. Seriously you're better off playing the remake.

Retarded item management

Getting annoyed at zeppelins.

Does the PS4 version have massive frame drops like the PS2 version did

Nope. I know the Vita version does if you use A LOT of potions at the same time.

Actually, no. PS4 is silky smooth.

Really good game which a lot of people will never even try because it looks so weeb

The only time I noticed frame drop is when I launched 3 or more potions/spells at the same time.

Not really. It's there but rare to see.

The gameplay is a bit repetitive but the story and the graphics are top-notch.

Can I waifu anyone? This is important.

A pretty but ultimately repetitive game that gets old fast. If you already played Muramasa before, you're essentially playing that with a different coat of pain.

The only single ladies die and the rest pair off with other characters.

You're playing the waifu

No.

I tortured my hand for a week because I want to know the complete story so bad.

>I tortured my hand for a week
wut

Gwendolyn in the original ps2 game was kinda wonky. Combined with the bad frame rate I've mashed the button harder than it should be.

A well crafted game, seriously Vanillaware games are fantastic but ultimately Vita has the best collection of them

How does the PS3 version run?

As for as I know, all 3 versions run at 60fps, just at different resolutions. At least on the vita, it will dip if there's a ton of shit going on onscreen, don't know about the other versions.

I think that also runs well. But I'm not sure.

queen huge tits fight was lag murder down to like sub 5fps on the US ps2 version

all that shit was fixed with the EU version and i HEARD the ps2 GH version as well

its comes with the remake and the ps2 version (remade on the remake's engine).

the ps2 version in it also lets you choose a buttload of quality of life options so you don't have to fully experience the pain of the ps2 version.
its recommended you just play the normal remake and not the ps2 remake though.

you are in for a beat em up type game, with all the pros and cons of the genre.

Characters are fun to play
Recycled enemies
repeated levels
re-fights upon re-fights
juggling the ever living hell out of enemies
big combo numbers
no real grabs, which is always a crime
nice soundtrack
cool bosses
and all that other stuff. in a nutshell, fun but repetitive.

I just finished the game recently and it was amazing, is it worth getting a vita to play the other vanillaware games or wait for them to come (if it ever happens) to the ps4?

itt. best ways to play vanillaware games

Cute story

>itt.
Fuck off make your own thread asshole.

Muramasa Rebirth probably isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future, since it was specifically done for the Vita because George wanted to see how his art'd look on the Vita's OLED screen. No idea what the deal with Dragon's Crown is, though I know there was some funny business there after Atlus and NISA fell out and that it's no longer in-print or available on the PSN store in Europe and Australia/New Zealand.

Play Grand Knights History (Either on a CFW PSP or emulation; it was a Japan-only release but someone's done a reasonably good translation patch) if you're into SRPGs or even just '90s JRPGs as a whole. Then play Grand Kingdom (GKH's spiritual successor by the same director with art that's clearly trying to channel VW) if you enjoyed that. I don't think Princess Crown has ever gotten a translation, unfortunately.

Like others said, gameplay repetive, but in not really bad way. All characters uniqie in abilities and style, what gives pretty fresh experience for everyone.

Stupid flat chests

Mercedes was the one I had the most fun playing as, went full glass cannon with 3 of the % damage dealt/recieved.

These.

It runs at 60 fps pretty consistantly. I do recall there being some frame drops here and there, but otherwise fine. (Areas with blizzard/sandstorm did feel like they had frame drop, but those areas don't even matter.) The loading times are pretty good as well, as none of the loading times feel like they take too long. The only things that feel like they take too long is the entire upgrade screen (just everything) and the time it takes to consume multiple meals.

I felt that Mercedes was one of the best in the original game, but one of the more boring characters in the remake. While she is still a decent enough character, I kind of wish she was as fun to use as the other remade characters. Mind you, she is quite powerful. Mind you, playing her only in the remake might change perceptions a bit.

It's alright.

Mercedes was fun. For the most part.

Is the remake different from the original? I played OS back on PS2 and couldn't finish it. While very pretty, I found it pretty boring. For the reference I liked Muramasa and Dragon's Crown just fine.

Should I buy the remake?

Yes. They overhauled the combat system completely so that it's similar to Muramasa/DC, so it should be pretty much ideal for you.

Personally, I quite like the remake, and I do believe that it is a better game than the original, but while I do like a lot of the changes they made, I do miss some of the more experimental mechanics that were in the original.

The biggest change that I liked but disliked was the POW, which basically completely change the dynamic is the game as a whole. In the original, it worked as like a stamina meter, also imfluencing Mercedes ammo, and Oswald's berserk. This meant that fights were a lot slower and required some resource management, and due to the less flashier move, it felt like you had better control of your character.

With the new POW, it made the combat much easier, since you no longer had to worry about running out of stamina, as it only controls special moves. This means that your combo doesn't have to end. This system only works with the new combat style, as the much more fun combat would be heavily restricted by the old POW system, and be hard to control, while the old combat system would not suit the new POW, as the moveset was a tad limited, and it would clearly show. What the new POW does, is make the game a LOT more fun to play (due to the enhanced moveset), but also easier than the original.

One of the biggest shames with the new POW system, is that many of the original enemies are still designed around the slower pace of the original, which make several enemies and bosses much easier to deal with. Examples of bosses that O believe are now cake include Belial, Brigan, Odette, Levanthan and Odin, to name a few.

I could go on in detail about what I liked and disliked (mainly the former) about the remakes changes, including the inventory, food, alchemy, level progression, phozons, level design, map design etc, but in the end, it is quite amazing the amount of effort that went into the remake. While I do miss some of the older mechanics, the remake is a lot more refined, and in my opinion, a better experience.

Except less fun. I replay Muramasa a bunch of times and always have tons of fun but I can't force myself to replay OS for some reason.

>Recommending Grand Knights History at all
Nigga that game is complete trash. Even the artwork is dull as fuck with washed out colors. The OST is pretty good though.

There actually was a muramasa complete sale on EU a few days ago.

Vita is the definite platform for most vanillaware games.

Mercedes was lewd.

Muramasa had less faffing about with inventory and food items, for one thing. Making them instant use recovery items or temporary that you just make in the menu screens was a pretty sensible decision, really.
