Uematsu is always up for composing for SE, but they don't give a fuck. He doesn't even get royalties for his previous work with them.

Uematsu is terrible now, bring Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta or Yasunori Mitsuda anytime.

It would also never happen, Hamauzu left the company in 2011 and the only thing he's done since was WoFF.

To be honest, while I think Uematsu's scores for FFIV, VI and VIII were the best things about those games, they are not unreachable masterpieces. The music for FFXIII and XIV have been some of the best music in the series. So on the music front, they have plenty of talent to choose.

The real issue with Final Fantasy is also what has been the problem with every FF game. A focus on story over gameplay, art design over game design. They need to get a director who can focus more on game development and less on "won't it be cool if this character walks through fire in a dramatic pan shot!"

He also did Legend of Legacy and it was pretty great.
Also some tracks for XIII-2 and LR, and rearrangements for X.

Mizuta is great. He and Kumi Tanioka could easily collaborate and create something wonderful (like they did as a trio w/ Uematsu as well).

Their FF11 tracks are excellent.

Can someone explain the obsession with him? Don't get me wrong he's really good and he has done some of the best songs from video games but as others have pointed out Hamauzu, Mizuta, Suzuki and Shimomoura are all excellent as well.

I don't think Final Fantasy is dead like that guy. But they do not have hundreds of millions of dollars to burn like you seem to think. Remember, they were scared shitless when FFXIV 1.0 flopped. So much so to completely change their management structure and 'fire' their head CEO. As well as making a massive shift to new IPs.

FFXV was in development for twice as long. And for all we know, might have costed more to develop. We don't know exactly how much they need to sell to make a profit. But all their actions make it look like they are trying to make a game to rival FFVII in sales. And it clearly isn't going to get anywhere near that.

I would play Final Fantasy Tactics 2. Fuck yeah. I want to see what happens after Delita becomes king. I want to see what legacy he leaves behind, I want to see people forget all about what happened.

Either way, if he's directing and keeps the fantastic gameplay, story telling, and job system of FFT, it will be fantastic.
