It feels like what would happen if Battlefield were an open world game. That is, decent level design takes a backseat to just making the world fucking huge.

It's probably the only MMOFPS that currently has any sort of decent population though.

Terran Republic is hella OP right now, especially their Heavy Assault.

NC starters are probably the 'best' all around, but are generally harder for new people to use properly. TR/VS are both easier to use and get kills with, with TR having a better AR and VS getting a better LMG

That said, different weapons aren't going to have nearly as much affect as you might think, as learning base layouts/ finding good fights/ avoiding getting killed by bullshit are far more effective skills in getting gud

Well im a TR fag myself but i would say the factions are pretty balanced. Pick up a faction that you support
TR for duty and serving for your motherland
NC to fight for freedom and justice
VS to ascend beyond human race and reach a new age of intelligence and advancement.
Gun wise though
TR: large mags, fast bullets, great mobillity
NC: Strong bullets, actually tanky tanks and lots on lots of shotguns
VS: great accuracy at range, no bullet drops, cool lazer weapons

It's decent, but at times I wonder if SOE/Daybreak/whatever they call themselves now have any fucking clue about what they're doing.

The nc put a shotgun on their ESF. That alone sold me on the faction.

ps2 used to have GOOD GRAFIX going for it, but then they turned off the good grafix to cater to potatoes (and because they have no concept of a poly budget when it comes to additions to the game) so now it's... nothing

NC have the best weapons, but they are also harder to use (harder recoil, lower fire rate). Harder to use = shit pub players = worst performing faction.

All the starter weapons are good except for on infil and max, + everyone gets a default shotgun which is op as shit. Pick the faction whose colors you like the most.

In my experience, TR kids speak ill of everyone.

Oh, God. WWII Online. I ordered it when it was first released. I was so excited for it. The damn thing didn't work with the specs listed, and they resorted to a 90MB patch the next day. 90MB back when 56.6k modems were still standard. Still didn't work for most people, and the few who could run it found it was nothing like they were expecting: no navies, not 1/2scale of Europe, only a couple vehicles, bugged air forces that didn't appear in the sky. Complete shitshow.

What do you think about the NSX line?
personally I think they have a cool concept and cant wait for the SMG and carbine to roll around

It's at the very least one of the most ambitious fps ever created. I mean it's pretty much on it's own in the MMOFPS genre for as long as I can see. While the game ended up doing a lot of things poorly, it's easy to see that they were at least TRYING to push the envelope.

Airchav tears are delicious.

For the most part the open battlefield tends to only have vehicle combat. Infantry spend most of their time attacking or defending bases which have mostly indoor capture points.

Planetside 1 wasn't that great, dude. 2 is better in pretty much every way.

Ruined everything. Back before that if your team was getting steamrolled by a zerg, you could just go behind them, and cut them off. Now you just have to outzerg a zerg head on.

I would love if, every once in a while if a faction locks down a continent, there's a little bit of banter between the faction voices.

the problem with the old Hex system was people would literally only go around the zergs, and everyone would just end up ghost capping empty bases around each other constantly.

The biggest problem with games like this is zergs, I wish a dev would find a way to split them up and have to tackle several objectives at once.

Big zerg fights are only really impressive the first few times.

Impossible to be efficient at anything other than a foot soldier with maybe some MAX/Tank credits without shelling out triple your average retail price in SmedleyBux (tm).

I quit when they introduced other lands to fight for that basically boiled my server down to TR = Main continent, VR = Ice continent and NC = Greeny Rocky continent with maybe some limited organized resistance for 30 minutes before the zerg got zerged and retreated to the continent they already owned.
