Unpopular opinions

I'll start - SOTN is absolutely unplayable garbage and I can't see any appeal it has other than nostalgia for those who played it back in the day. It doesn't even look that good since that's what castlevaniafags parrot usually, literally SNES game tier visuals.

SAO (PS4) is the best JRPG ever

The Division is a technical masterpiece and I am constantly blown away by all of the little details and TECHNOLOGY they put into the game that didn't need to be there.

Warcraft III is too easy and gets boring after the 5th or 6th campaign

people trying to over intellectualize video games just ended up making them dumber, because they taught developers that all they really want is to be told that they're smart for looking at pretty art assets

I do believe The "open World survival n Craft" fad is cool as fuck, but at The same time, almost no Game has properly executed it.

I second this. I have tried many times to enjoy SotN, but I'm usually bored within an hour.

Undertale is garbage

You're listening to the wrong ones.

SotN is not that good but I think its visuals are good. Except for the claymore familiar and the dog form. So lazy.

HotS is good.

I absolutely do not see the appeal of turn based combat in games such as Final Fantasy 1.

It's the same fights. It's the same tactics. The stats change a little but it feels so damn repetitive and boring. I don't GET it. And no one ever offers to explain it to me.

The Legend of Spyro was a good series, and I enjoyed the new designs

You're a fucking idiot if you get triggered by "gg ez"

For an indie game, Undertale was pretty well made, probably an 8/10 for me

there is literally nothing wrong with having anthro characters in your game, and it does not make your game "furry trash"

Despite all of the crappy updates Vale keeps pushing, TF2 is still better than Overwatch

There is literally nothing wrong with female/LGBT/black/any other minority characters in a video game as long as they are well written and complaining about these types of characters accomplishes nothing

how do you feel about sorcerland

You do realize that a good chunk of this board has the same opinion as yours.

Oh look. It's "i'm 12" thread.

>I absolutely do not see the appeal of turn based combat

Play Worms and you will understandu

that's what makes this unpopular opinion because this board is full of unpopular people

>I can't see any appeal it has other than nostalgia for those who played it back in the day.
You can dislike the game all you want but I only played/beat it a year ago & enjoyed every minute of it. The appeal is pretty much like Super Metroid to me, I like exploring getting upgrades to access new areas (but in this case it has a leveling up system) and if I were to replay the game I'd probably try to sequence break shit.

Complete open world is cancer and bad. Games fail to properly tell a story when you have to be able to go anywhere whenever you want. There have to be lots of segments that just drive you down a path.
.

That is an entirely different kind of gameplay compared to turn-based JRPGs.

The best Ace Combat was 6.

My favorite Mario & Luigi game is Partners in Time and I find Bowser's Inside Story kind of weak.

The first time I played and beat the game was this year. I loved it. So I don't have nostalgia for it, other than nostalgia for the sub-genre of platform gaming itself.
And I don't get the visuals criticism. They look fantastic IMO, the visuals and the soundtrack were what convinced me to play it in the first place.

sports games have a lot of depth and complexity and I play them a lot

5th gen pokemon wasn't very good. I don't get the appeal outside of >muh story isn't terrible

not sure how unpopular this is but dark souls 2 is a really bad game. Dark souls 3 isn't amazing but it's way more enjoyable than 2

dragons dogma is terrible

sleeping dogs is a solid game but it's overrated. The story and characters were enjoyable

d44m wasn't very fun. R6s is still the best fps from the last few years

no elder scrolls game is good.

As a halo fan: CE has the worst single player of any halo game, even worse then 4's and 5's.

Sunshine is the best 3d mario and is the only mario game i've played I would consider an 8/10 or better

Sa2 is the best sonic game, generations is super overrated, the 2d sonic games are even more flawed then Sa2 is, colors is good but is hurt too much by forced 2d sections. Freedom planet is how to do 2d sonic right.

The Souls games have terrible soundtracks with a small batch of exceptions and I bet they don't match with yours, except for the Abyss Watchers theme.

>mfw I played SotN last year for the first time and loved it
My confession is this: there is one boss in every soulsborne that I just simply can't beat and it haunts me every time. They're all optional, it's just being bested drives me insane

>the 2d sonic games are even more flawed then Sa2 is
I'm curious why you think that, elaborate.

>dragons dogma is terrible
I thought this too, or at least that it was bad, which is weird because I like Itsuno games and SotC but it just rubbed me the wrong way. I think there is value in the game that I cannot see, however, everything else you said is totally true.

hack and slash rpgs are inherently casual and people who are elitist about them are the sort of people who call themselves "gamers" and wear vidya t-shirts and drink mountain dew

your favourite gen is 4 and you started with it

>I actually like FFXV and its GOTY material.

>Ocarina of Time rightfully deserve the title of best video game ever

There is a wide consensus here that dark souls 2 is bad. Everywhere else it's just looked at as the worst in the series but since the series can do no wrong that equates to "not that bad".

This post makes me want to avoid FFXV more than all the botchy screenshots Sup Forums could ever find.

>the 2d sonic games are even more flawed than Sa2 is
That's not an unpopular opinion, that's just a shit opinion.

I hate Dead space and by that I mean franchise not just a single game.

That's a bizarre combination of opinions.

Dark Souls is NOT the second coming of vidya Jesus.

It's an unfinished, untested, shoddily programmed game that never should have come out in its "final" state. It doesn't even have the decency of making up for the poorly functioning gameplay with a decent story, because it doesn't have one beyond a generic "u da chosen one, go fulfil prophecy."

All Dark Souls did well was the marketing campaign. They pretty much nailed that one on the head.

>hurr durr u just mad cus u suck at it, git gud
First of all, From Soft need to git gud at programming (especially programming combat AI) for me to feel challenged in the first place. Souls AI is garbage, and if you've ever played an FPS in the 90s, you will have acquired the one and only move you need to defeat 99% of enemies in the game.

It really is a case of "it gets better after a while"
it completely is a terrible game up until you get to gran soren, and at least 2 of the classes are boring dogshit to play. It rightfully gets praise though, it does so many unique things at once, even if it is an incredibly poorly paced game the fact that you literally can't experience the sort of gameplay anywhere else is why people praise it so highly.

I started with gen 1 actually

I played it for 10 hours twice, and got way past gran soren. Still hated it.

>Marketing
DaS had borderline zero marketing, DeS even less so. Obviously they had to do something right or else word of mouth wouldn't have spread.

>DaS had borderline zero marketing

For the PC launch? Sure, but vanilla DaS1 was hardly marketed compared to what came after the DLC dropped. If it weren't for word of mouth it would've died with a whimper.

I agree with you on DeS, but DaS? Come on. The hype was as artificial as it was huge.

Street Fighter 5, Dark Souls 2 and Bioshock Infinite are all fantastic games.

I get your point, but I disagree it had anything to do with the games' supposed qualities. These days being an exclusive (or really, just being unavailable on PC) is enough for whichever platform's userbase that has access to it to praise it to high heavens.

Yes, I'm a PCfag, and yes, I'm mad. Because I was actually looking forward to a great game when the PC port was announced. Oh, and let's not even start on the quality of that port. That shit was unreal.

What class were you playing? Sword and board and regular mage class blows.

These threads are always just posting really stupid opinions thinking they're just "unpopular".
For example, an unpopular would be something like: Shitposting and responding to blatant shitposts is detrimental to good conversation
And then an example of a stupid opinion disguised as an unpopular one would be: Shitposting and responding to blatant shitposting is an integral part of neo-Sup Forums culture and should be done at all possible opportunities.

I went whatever the rogue class was and then assassin. And on another playthrough it was sword and board. I this combat is bad and the world bland. I'll probably pick it up again at one point but that will be my third or fourth time starting the game and I don't know how much left I got in me

Too meta.

poo poo pee pee neo-Sup Forums get the fuck away from me

Of the 3D Zeldas I have played (OoT, WW, TP) The way story and cutscenes are handled, the combat, handholding, tutorials, writing, puzzles, the flow, speed, level design, everything is average to bad. There's nothing special about them. I think people are blinded by the idea they had as kids of being Link and running around that they can't see the game's flaws for what they are. Every person who ranks any of those three in a top 20 games list has bad taste and parrot others opinions.

I prefer the Tomb Raider reboot over the original

>SOTN is absolutely unplayable garbage and I can't see any appeal it has other than nostalgia for those who played it back in the day. It doesn't even look that good since that's what castlevaniafags parrot usually, literally SNES game tier visuals.

>tfw still haven't beaten Orphan.

DaS and DeS weren't very good games from a mechanical or technical standpoint, but they were actual GAMES and people were happy to play a gamey game (that wasn't indie) instead of another neutered movie or simplified rollercoaster ride. The early community also helped and it brought back feelings like discovery and adventure.

Eh, if you didn't like rogue then you probably wouldn't like it.

The only last thing I would say is that if the combat felt like it took too long then your pawns are probably the problem.

The new update to No Mans Sky makes it playable again.
It's actually fun to start building a base and all

I don't think anybody, even the people who like it, disputes SA2 has a bad camera, slippery physics, and just a general lack of polish and jank.

Those are all ancillary problems. The core gameplay and gameplay systems themselves are all good.

Most 2d sonic games have flaws in the core design of the game itself. The game was designed around speed and going fast, yet the view isn't actually wide enough to react to stuff ahead of you, and the level design really isn't well suited to that either.

Sa2 strikes a much better balance and execution of platforming, general down time, and side paths then any of the 2d sonic games do, at least IMO: the side paths and platforming exist but rarely do these ever actually slow you down or you are forced to slow down as a punishment if you miss some of them: You can more or less go fast even if you don't go the best route possible, it';s just you go even faster if you do.

Also, it being 3d and the camera facing ahead of you basically solves the entire issue of being unable to react to stuff.

You have no standards and are easily amused, is that unpopular or are you told that a lot? Because it wouldn't surprise me if it weren't.

DOTA isn't actually harder than LOL. Outside of a few niche heroes (which are clumsy and weird as fuck to play even if it sounds easy compared to Starcraft) it requires no mechanical skill. It's all about knowledge so the best way to get better is to read a fucking encyklopedia. Thats why it has a higher skill-entry but not bigger skill ceiling

The modern Ninja Gaiden games are complete dogshit compared to all of their contemporaries and ruin the legacy of the NES classics.

I can see you haven't even tried it out yet.
You can have your own freighter.
Three new options to play the game : Normal, Survival and Creative.
The graphics got an improvement and so on
And this was just the first Update!

There are only 4 campaigns.

This is an objectively bad opinion and you deserve to feel bad about yourself.

How do I black out text? This isn't my normal board.

mario sunshine is nintendo's best platformer

Strg S

Ctrl*
i feel stupid sry

vanilla wow was good

99% of the time, turn based combat is shit. the only thing I did not like about lost odyssey was the turn-based combat.

silent hill 1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > SM, every other silent hill game is trash and irrelevant

the only bad resident evil games are ORC and umbrella corps and maybe gaiden

90% of what atlus puts out is absolute trash

valve is actually a terrible dev with their only good games being mods/based off mods/a different dev and the original half life

tri-ace is a 10/10 developer

capcom is still the best video game company because they've managed to produce a fucking ton of good series

konami was always shit

sotn is the best castlevania

final fantasy 2 is awful, 3 is fucking boring as hell, 4 is not very good, and 12 is the best

dirge of cerberus was a good game

the only thing that makes overwatch not better than tf2 is the fact that it costs more than tf2 did and also doesn't have custom maps and custom servers with saysounds and other scripts like rtd and server-side hats and effects

lost planet 2 is objectively the greatest video game ever created

persona artstyle sucks

UFO defense and TFTD are infinitely superior to the firaxis XCOM games

ace combat 5 was way better than zero

and while we're at it, beretta > glock

Not a bad list user. Do you like the Etrian Odyssey games?

always wanted to get into it but could never find any copies cheap enough

The remake for 1 on the 3DS is pretty cheap on the E-Shop, 10 euros without discount IIRC. The rest are still pricey.
