About to start this, but I´ve only played IV and Apocalypse before, how different is it? I played those two on easy mode because I suck
SMT

You're fucked, pham.
It's literally le randumb xD tier. Quite possibly the worst game in the entire franchise.
what? I chose this one because you fuckers kept telling me it was the best one
It's great. Amazing soundtrack. Last dungeon is stupid bullshit.
Well that's probably because it's the best one.
Strange Journey is one of the Hardest SMT games so prepare yourself
>easy
You're not ready for SJ, but go ahead and give it your all.
Big differences are.
>Random encounters that you can't avoid
>first person
>mazes
>teleporter mazes
>no press turn system
>can't distribute stats
Protip:Always do what Mastema says.
Go away Zelenin.
If you played those on easy modo, SJ might eat you alive.
Also fuck teleporters and darkness.
Okay, let me set up a few differences for you
First off, unlike 4 and 4A, Strange Journey is a first-person dungeon crawler, similar to just about all of the pre-PS2 MegaTen games. The dungeons are longer and harder than Mara in a tantrum.
SJ also uses a different battle system that's more similar to classic JRPGs. As in, you input your team's commands, then everyone, friend and foe alike, go for their commands based on their speed stat. Pretty simple. But there are some extra tidbits to understand going in
>The hero does not learn spells like demons can. Instead, what skills the hero knows at the time is entirely dependent on what equipment you have equipped at the time (particularly, your rifle). Alternatively, you also have different Spell Stones that can be used as items to cast spells.
>Unlike 4 and 4A, if the Hero falls, that's it. Game Over
>There is a bonus you can get called Demon Co-Op. When a party member hits an enemy's weak spot, every other party member of the same general alignment (Law, Chaos, or Neutral) get a bonus hit. Think of it as an automatic All-Out Attack from the Persona series
>Reflect skills such as Tetrakarn and Makarakarn only last for the round they are cast in. In other words, putting these skills on a slow party member is fucking useless.
You're gonna get fucked. Game is full of casual filter bosses and the final boss is a pain.

>realizing the game's about to end
I just beat Strange Journey recently. Fuck the teleporter mazes in Grus.
The soundtrack is great, but I was pretty disappointed to find that the three final bosses all share the same theme. It's a good final boss theme, at least.
I'll be surprised if you make it past Carina.
It's one of the few that doesn't look like total weebshit, the fuck are you talking about
Mastema is trustworthy!
TRUSTWORTHY!
...
I started this but was turned off by the beginning for some reason. Debating selling it or keeping it for the future. I'm much more enjoying Soul Hackers, and I also have a repro cart of Old Testament now.
hey
It's one of the more difficult SMT games, so good luck. Best one though.
I found the second phase more difficult.
it's the "america fuck yeah!" of JRPG's
Yeah, the regen didn't bother me as much as the new attack she got.
Play etrian odyssey first.
It starts like shit but it gets good after a while.
I think you play Nocturne first.
>tfw no wall to keep you demon worshipping cunts in hell
Enjoy worshiping some giant statue, lawfag.
Remove lawfags
Be ready to grind. Always remember: you level up more quickly when you have fewer demons summoned and only summoning Doppelganger lets enemies beat themselves.
I stopped after I beat this fucker. SJ became more like work than an enjoyable game.
Haven't played a lot of EO. I liked the dungeons more, but the battle system less. Mainly because SJ dungeons can be annoying.
>Be ready to grind.
There is no need to grind in SJ.
Reminder that doom guy is one of the few guys that permanently ended the demons in his timeline
pretty good and not too different from IV/A. you should be fine. this one has brutal dungeons however
You fuck off first, chaos scum.
It also has pretty weak gameplay that embraces EO design philosophies.
A game so fucking good that I couldn't last 10 hours in IV because of how fucking boring it was.
Strange Journey is still one of the best games I've ever played, and it's hard as sun bleached dog shit.
...
I'm sure he can at least reach Delphinus.
That one will eat him alive tho'. And in the off-chance he also manages to get past Delphinus, I would love to see his face when he traverses Eridanus.
Am I the only one who really loves the skill trees in EOIV? To the point that I legitimately get excited when I level up.
I discovered EO before SMT.
I find post-Eridanus to be easier than the rest of the game until Mem-Aleph. It's kind of after the massive anal raping that Eridanus gives you, your anys is spread enough that you can now whitstand what comes after, I guess.
At least Eridanus has such nice music to carry you through.
At the start of SJ you'll get a personality test, always choose the first option.
I wanna cum on her forehead.
The best option is always the one that leads to dead friends.
Wasn't neutral route just a temporary end to demons?
Literally does not matter. Don't listen to this guy.
The game has a difficulty spike at oroboros, then it's easier then the first half, then you hit the final boss and a wall.
final boss. but yeah.If you find yourself grinding in an ATLUS game, you're doing it wrong.
I want you to cum on my forehead too
Are you a cute girl or a cute girl (male)?
The dungeons are a first person view on a grid layout. You're expected to search every wall for doors/stairs/etc. You can't just save anywhere so if you've been dungeon crawling for an hour+ and get an unlucky hit to your MC you just lost all that progress. It's hard but fair and since you're familiar with SMT already it shouldn't be too challenging if you just be patient.
I've started SJ like 5 times, I always get bored about 5 hours in and drop it
SJ was my first SMT after Persona and I didn't really get stuck until Grus. It was really... exhausting area.
>Nocturne, Matador
>get my shit kicked in
>find out fusing angel and lilim gives me a good demon for the fight
>already too chaos to recruit them
What now, mindlessly level grind until I can brute force it?
Enjoy getting oneshotted by unidentified enemies even if you have your character defending at full health.
Except the test determines your stat growths, so it's extremely important.
How the fuck can you be too "chaos" to fuse Uzume?
Also get the Elephant fuck and evolve him by reaching like 20-21. He turns into Momo the dude with the spear and gets counter. Basically just get a demon with Rakujuku buff to max get him to phase 2 and have him counter himself to death since counter can't miss even with max agility.
When I try to recruit them, even after succeeding they say something like "It'll never work out" and leave. According to Google this is because I used magatamas that make me lean chaos which makes some demons not join me. Will take that elephant fuck advice to heart though.
It's such a minor factor it's irrelevant
I had luck, but that was my lowest or 2nd lowest stat most of the game
It's more like older MegaTen games (basically hardcore dungeon crawlers). SJ in particular is probably the hardest in the series.
Does it at least have a better encounter rate than 1 and 2?
Space Marine is mostly an item vending machine anyways.
Way better. It's similar to EO where there's an indicator to tell you how close you are to an encounter, and sub-apps in the game exist to either extend or decrease the time between each encounter.
Oh thank god. I wanted to fucking hang myself after forcing myself through ginza in 1.
When I started EO3 I thought "who the fuck needs a Prince?", but his skills are just so good!
Then I was doing it wrong. I had to grind for Carina and Ouroboros.
Not really SMT, but in Persona Q, I get too attached to particular characters' sub-Personas, and don't want to fuse them with others for fear of losing a good move set. Am I doing it wrong?
>Protip:Always do what Mastema says
Fuck off Zelenin.
>Played IV on easy
>Jumping into SJ
Prepare your anus.
Generally yes. It's always a better idea to fuse your demons/personas in this franchise because they're made by design to not progress well beyond a certain point. In some earlier games, they don't even level up at all.
don't even. if you couldn't get through the last 2 games on normal then you can't get through SJ. not only that but you just won't enjoy it, it is made for a niche audience who like dungeon crawling games.
This nigga was 100% right.
>use Kanji's sub-persona to fuse with a another one and give him the new one
>for some reason he sucks now, has shit SP
>Sit him out and replace him with Aigis until I can buy back his old persona
I obviously failed to look over everything carefully before fusing
That can be a problem sometimes I suppose. I guess I forgot to consider how much an impact sub-personas may have in Persona Q since I barely touched that one and was mostly going off of general SMT logic.
Demons are food, not friends.
But Personas are about the power of friendship.
SMT Apocalypse was about friendship too but demons were still disposable.
>played the easiest mainline game on fucking easy
>about to start strange journey
you are going to get all your orifices stuffed repeatedly and brutally.
SMT1 is the easiest once you learn how to cheese it desu.
This is not okay.
Demons have rights.
You rang?
Strange Journey's soundtrack is the worst in the series.
Being ambient and fitting doesn't mean shit to me when it's just so awful sounding compared to every other Megaten ost.
Literally the only difficult boss in that game though.
Fuck you, friendship route should have had an option to purge Hallelujah like the impure abomination he is.
Strange Journey's less SMT and more like a Star Trek away team RPG.
One of the main tips is exp is actually split between your active party members. So that means if you return your demons to your stock (happens at the start of the turn before anyone can move) when the demon's in red health and do the last hit with your main character, he'll get x4 the exp you'd get with a full party. Or return all but 1 demon, and your MC and that demon get x2 exp each, good way to level faster. Especially with bosses if you risk it.
The right to shut the fuck up and get in the sacrifice cage and give Jack Frost 2 more magic.
I found the game easy except for Meme Aleph.
Even easier because you can break the game by abusing repel abilities.
This sums up virtually every game in the SMT franchise outside of the Persona games.
Fuck you. The cathedral is a 10/10.
Google is full of shit, you just got unlucky
I like the Tower of Kagutuschi a lot.
Only if you abuse emulator options.
Does nocturne even havr a chaos/law alignment? I can't remember.
It affects your title and is based on magatama's mastered
