I currently have a GTX 970 (memes notwithstanding) that's done very well for me, but I'm worried I'll be hitting its upper limits soon. Should I get a GTX 1080 now and get Watch Dogs 2 for free, or are there other cards to expect on the horizon next year?

Lower your limits.
No idea what the fuck you're doing since i'm playing at 1440p on a 780
buying a very expensive card just so you can get a F R E E shitty meme game isn't worth it.
clear your senses. go with what you actually need to play the games you wanna play.
The 970 is still fine. I'm running 970 i5 3570k and it's treating me wonderfully. I'm still getting my 30 bucks from that lawsuit though
>3.5GB
>2016 DX12 games already using 4-5GB at 1080p
I'm sorry user.
no, 970 is still ok, wait for 11xx series.
wait until the dx12 support isn't terrible which will probably happen next year.
How?
>I memed myself into a R9 390
It's till a good card but what really get's me is that i got it a month after the RX480 came out.
I thought it was just gonna be shit as much as everyone hyped it up.
Now i only have a slightly better card when i could have gotten a 480 for 2/1 the price and be content.
I could have bught a 1070 for the price my currnt one.
I can't even set up a I can't even SLI with another 390 because that's just money out the window
fuck my life
Why would anyone willingly go to winblows 10 just for slight FPS increases in shitty AAA games that run like shit anyway
For work reasons i bought a laptop with a 1060 card for 1200 bucks and it won't arrive until friday. Anybody has any idea on its performance? Gaming laptops aren't the best, but I need monolity+power for other stuff.
>playing this garbage
wew lad
I dunno m8, Forza Horizon 3 is pretty fun.
That's not how it works. You buy a new GPU WHEN you start hitting upper limits, not before.
>DX12 games
WOAH WHERE!
So what exactly made the GTX 970 the """"""""meme"""""""" card?
Got it some time early last year (maybe sooner, i don't remember) and it has only treated me well. Still running everything 60 fps on max settings save a few.
Did some people get shafted?
It was advertised as a 4 GB card for super cheap. It turns out it was actually 3.5 GB. That's legally false advertising, and nVidia was sued and made to partly reimburse those who bought the card.

>tfw still on a GTX 660
Is the 1060 a good purchase for someone who doesn't want to go over 1080p60fps?
Well, now i understand. I will say that the card has been more than enough for me, but i definitely get the outrage.
Fuck Nvidia. Fuck every scam artist business basically.
I have a 970 too but I'm waiting for the 1080ti.
Yes but you seriously may as well go all the way to a 1070 or a 480 to be futureproof.
t. Former 780 owner (now 1080) tricked into buying before the ti
were you in coma faggot? fuck off
>t. Former 780 owner (now 1080) tricked into buying before the ti
woah bro you missed out on paying an extra $200 for 5fps
I just upgraded to 1070 from 970, and the experience is amazing. My somewhat lackluster i5 CPU notwithstanding, I can play Warhammer TW at high settings (with unit details and all the fancy physics shit on ultra) at a steady 60fps, and Witcher 3 is pushed to the maximum at a steady 60 wherever I go, including dense forests and Novigrad.
Hitman is terribly optimized, and so is Watch Dogs 2.
reposting from antoher thread
>Watch Dogs 2 makes use of EasyAntiCheat, which has, embedded in its TOS - and even on its features page - a field that claims "Client data analysis to identify anomalies in the game process runtime" is used to enforce it anti-cheat detection mechanisms. What it basically means is that EasyAntiCheat installs a driver in kernel mode and a service that monitors your systems' operating files (when Watch Dogs 2 is running). This mechanism is also running even when you're in single-player-only - and even offline - modes, meaning that you're not getting out of its crosshairs no matter how you are playing the game. The addition of file-integrity checks at the start of the game, so as to detect any changes to the games' files also precludes modding, with some injection-type modding also finding troubles in being able to access the game, due to it checking game memory and system memory as well. Popular applications such as Afterburner and OBS have their overlay and recording capabilities disabled, and Cheat Engine is also not working - though that just means EasyAntiCheat is doing its job.
>ncuckia
>anti-cheat in single player games
modern videogame industry is a joke
>game about technocracy authoritarianism
>software monitors everything you do
Does anyone else see the irony on that?
That's not the only thing that EAC does, it's actually infamous because it occasionally makes screenshots of your monitor and desktop, as well as keylogging your inputs, then putting them on a public accessible website. That's why it's actually bad, not because of file integrity checks and blacklisting of signatures, because it isn't a very good cheating deterrent, but it's good at catching cheaters afterwards due to just being able to view screenshots from their machine.
>packaging anti-cheat software into game so that you can sell DLC cheats for cash
thank you, publisher!
