Monsters (mirages) have generic stats that even out quickly. The most powerful build is to just fill the empty slots on your stack then level the same party until endgame, while fighting in the arena for seeds (Mirage spells)

All but coded (disregarding CoM since it doesn't play the same in the slightest) have trash combat when it comes to handheld KH games.

KH1 is just pretty mediocre as well and KH2 has critical mode in Final Mix only making it really good because it rewards you for playing on highest difficulty rather than downright punishes you (3D & BBS)

This game has the most clusterfuck of an opening ever.

The game was fine, the tea room quests were fun, but I think they messed up the coliseum. Wanted more than just the same fights just with 10 lvls of difference.

I wanted something like fight random enemy combos for points, spend points.

This. The game is highly uninteresting. If it was like Kingdom Hearts as in you explore THE actual FF worlds instead of this "chimera" FF world that combines locales like Balamb Garden? Then it would be better. Plus the chibi crap really is off putting. Even more so than the FF characters' design in KH itself.

And yes, Lann and Reynn are awful. Particularly Reynn because the game likes to pretend that she's not annoying. Lann is tolerable because he gets shat on even when he does nothing wrong. So he gets some sympathy.
