Dead, shit, retarded devs, don't bother.
Dead if you're not part of the 16 elite players that play.
It's all in the numbers.
Number one: steamcharts.com
Didn't this game have a 30 tick maximum that went BELOW that when stuff happened on the server?
NS 1 was great.
NS 2 kinda meh. I don't know if it was because the game wasnt good or just because I'd played the original so much.
been here since ns1
ns2 had a time where it was amazing
it's been downhill for a very long time now, you've missed out, sorry OP. don't bother for now, and don't give your money to the current devs.
your best bet is joining an NS1 revival group that do PUGs.
if you don't heed these warning and you buy it anyway you'll get your shit shoved in back through your nose by people who have every pixel of this game memorized. i say this as one of these people, it's not going to be fun for fresh blood. they've put time into trying to section off the retards in their own pen to have time to get used to it but people actively abuse exploits to get in said servers to fuck shit up for fun, and for free ranked skill numbers.
there's a lot to complain about, but none you need to worry about, let it die.
This. Though the game came out in 2012 but man was it fun in it's prime with all the 12v12 pubs. Now you have the comp community who steered development into the ground.
Never ever listen to comp players if you want a healthy game. Pubs keep it going.
this brand wont survive even half years of public interest. Overwatch started out strong and is still popular, meanwhile hardly anyone even knows what natural selection is.
This series will go extinct in the evolution games, it´s not natural selection for any gamers. :^)
Pretty much. I had a ton of fun during free weekends and in a few noob servers, but the second a comp cunt joins it's time to leave. As an alien, you'll get burst down across a room while you're hiding in total shadow, or when you pounce you'll die before you hit the floor. As a marine, you'll get attacked from spots you never thought to check and from angles that are incredibly difficult to track. And the second they unlock the fade, you might as well punch a wall to save yourself some time, they won't die for the rest of the game even if your whole team is running shotguns.
It's an incredibly fun game, spoiled by people who have 5000 hours in it ganking everyone, because there isn't enough of a community for them to have their own little retard arena.
Will there ever be a support class as fun as this?
>tfw you'll never get to be a cute, sliding healing pig in a game again
>tfw enjoyed this game and even became a member of squad five by writing up a crappy guide on commanding
> cant bring myself to reinstall because looking at player numbers and forums i know it will be shit
welp
Should have been f2p ages ago. Mostly because unlike other games, it still needs a decent rig to run
Devs killed it with the stupidest patches of all time
Also the community manager Hugh is a prime fuckwit
All NS2 did was kill NS.
Seriously, NS2 was basically dead on arrival and almost nobody went back to the original. They just stopped playing altogether. The world would be a better place if NS2 didn't exist.
what stupidity could they've done to kill a game that was dying by itself already?
definitely
They released buggy horrible patches the day before a free weekend, thereby confirming to outsiders that the game was a piece of shit.
Also their rebalance patches would be so fucking radical that people would need to relearn how to play the game. And on top of that (NS1 was guilty of this) every NS patch seems to just make the game less fun.
>absolutely retarded devs
>dead
>only 20 people who have 60,000 hours logged are still playing
Just let it die. It was very nice around launch and the few weeks afterwards, but now it's just sad.
Bullshit, I can find populated servers all the time
Surprised to see all the bashing here, I still play it occasionally and I love it, even as someone who kinda sucks. Very few other games like it.
Could be worse.

What the fuck is this?
NS2 suffered a lot of problems because of its engine and lack of content at the start. Things were getting better until the dumbass Hugh Jeremy decided to shift the game to a competitive focus which resulted in the biomass patch which made the game less enjoyable and a lot of people quit. Then when they tried to get more people back Hugh put out a patch the day before a major sale and then it turns out the patch wasn't stable.
It took a long time for the community development team to come in and fix all the damage. They made some good changes to the engine so the game loaded faster and framerate was better. They even improved the hit registration so you wouldn't die around a corner so much.
But Hugh came in again a short time later and started pushing too much balance shit again almost on a weekly basis at one point and more people quit. They nerfed dual exos to the ground and made it so there were only dual exos and no claws. They also nerfed jetpacks and they're still not fun to use.
I'm surprised the game is still alive after 4 years.
Gorge is best
Some small team which makes the NS2 combat mod decided to release a standalone game of it but basically no one bought it.
The mod is actually fun to play though. It's a nice break from the main style of play.
Why not just remove marines completely?
Whats actually different about it?
>mods of dead games not doing well standalone
These guys didn't need a soothsayer to know waht'll happen
>decide to make a mod a standalone game for $7
>nobody buys it
>have the gall to sell it for $6 instead when it is top 10 most dead Steam Game
At the very least it should have been free with NS2, unless they've already done that.
Combat is basically a super simple casual mode where you can choose all the weapons and get a few buffs the more kills you get, similar to something like RPG servers in CS. Each team improves over time based on its kill count, until it becomes strong enough to just run into the enemy base and kill it.
How they thought it'd sell as a stand-alone title is beyond me, it was only about a tenth as popular as the actual game at its peak, and most players were just noobs looking to practice with classes without having to waste all the resources on a single life.
I'd really like some gorge vs gorge fights actually
remember that this could be your game.
