>tfw still have to finish Haruspex and Clara in HD
Clock is ticking.

Is this a remake or something new?

That's an unnecessarily large bonfire.
Any context behind that?

wait what is it? Is it out?

I just realized that when the plague appears in the twon at 6pm, you can hear a bell ringing 12 times even though it's not midnight. In Edgar Allen Poe's Masque of the Red Death, the red death appears at the 12th stroke of midnight. The game also makes a direct reference to the short story elsewhere so it's pretty obvious they're aware of it.

It's like poetry

It's a pre-alpha demo and proof of concept. Very unoptimized but quite playable and pretty long, will take over 2 hours to complete and you'll most likely miss something on first playthrough.
It's a nightmare, but they do use large pyres as a warning signs near infected districts.

Should i play the original HD before the remake? Even the website states that the remake is basically a different game.

Original game is well worth playing, it's just a bit clunky and slow. But if you ever played Morrowind and didn't mind walking speed there much, you won't have any troubles enjoying the game.

mega.nz#!e4QTSbAb!10Qwwq1b4p6M-lDBMmNV0e1sqGP4IZANGQ3QfxOELf8
Also, the demo. If you'll have problems unzipping the archive, try opening it with 7zip.

:^)

I'm glad she gives us everything we need to dismiss her opinion right there in the first couple paragraphs otherwise I might be a little bit upset.

>tfw the last thread archives before you get to respond
Sorry, Actor.

ayy lmao

>Did you rike it?- 13 posts and 4 image replies shown.
I did. Very, very, very much so. Finished it two times already, planning on having at least one more run later today.
It's... remarkably pure essence of Pathologic. They really are staying true to their original vision, and they really do understand what worked so well in the original, at least if Marble Nest is anything to judge from.

>hould i play the original HD before the remake?
I used to think that yes, but after the Marble House, I'm not so sure anymore. I think the remake might really end up being the "definitive" version of Pathologic and the HD might become obsolete eventually.

>you can hear a bell ringing 12 times even though it's not midnight.
But it is. You can also listen to the kids talking about while they are tending to you as you lie in the bed delirious around Stillwater. It's a bit of a dickmove, because multiple characters claim they can hear voices around that area, but they all agree that it's Eve's voice, and since the lines are very muffled, it's basically impossible to figure out it's not Eve, but Sticky and Shrew talking.

I'm actually honestly surprised there aren't MANY more like these.

>Any context behind that?
Those pyres are used for two reasons: A) they are marking the infected districts, so that you can immediately tell (even from a distance and in the dark, thanks to the light, smell and smoke) that this is somewhere you should definitely not be going, and B) they are also useful for immediate burning of anything that may have come to the contact with infection, like a little sanitation machines.

The game even acknowledges their less practical aspects, namely that burning so much wood in fall in a steppe town is wasteful as fuck. But then again, people have to live long enough to worry about freezing in a couple of months, so...
It does make sense that you often find shit like bones and animal parts in the fire. Apparently they have been stacking entire cow carcasses in there just to save some wood and also I guess to make the stench stronger.

All of this should also probably tell you just how much thought went into this damn game.

>I'm actually honestly surprised there aren't MANY more like these.
I was disappointed when Classic HD came out, I was looking forward to all the really negative reviews.

With all the shitty remakes and remasters out there I'm glad IPL isn't completely retarded.

Is there anything you don't like about it so far?

>Is there anything you don't like about it so far?
Outside of largely technical issues that can be ironed out over time (sound and graphical bugs, clunky U.I., lack of subtitles etc...), the only things I'm not entirely on board with are some of the music tracks (the music is good on it's own, but sometimes feels a little too distinctive which might get a bit frustrating over time, also some of the dynamic transitions are just jarring), changes to some of the item descriptions (I miss the really gross food descriptions) and lack of character model variety, which was a problem in the original as well. Also, I think I mentioned this in a previous thread, but I think they went a little overboard with Daniil's snarkyness, especially within the context of this particular story.

Otherwise, not really, I loved just about everything about it. It felt like exactly what I wanted from Pathologic remake: major changes to the presentations, rafinement of the distinct aspects, truthfulness to the aesthetics and atmosphere. I don't think I would ever ask for anything more.

Though if I could, I would dream the world was a little more dynamic. Daily routines for NPC's, that kind of stuff.

>No pathologic in OP

Come on!

Finding these threads is hard enough as is.

Some things.
1. Don't like that transition between district states is instant. It's especially jarring because now it happens multiple times during the day, and I hope it's just a demo thing.
2. Screaming wall faces are stupid and don't belong in the game. They're just generic spoopy shit you'd expect to see in youtuber bait horror games.
3. Not a big fan of new Polyhedron. The shape of the body is good, but stairways are way too round and edgy.
4. Georgiy looks SO FUCKING BAD. He seems like a relic from when the game was still going to be cartoony.
5. I don't like the music. It's good at first, but got really old by the end of the day. And I hated Silent Hill static in infected districts.

That's what I remember. All the other gripes are probably not worth mentioning due to early stages of the game, like lack of NPC variety, animations and behaviours.

>not using the full thread search

Please!

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>Screaming wall faces are stupid and don't belong in the game.
What the actual fuck are you talking about? What screaming wall faces?

Infected houses.

>1. Don't like that transition between district states is instant.
In the original game, changes to district states happened always at midnight. I think the instant transition half-way through the game is a demo only thing.

I've just been to that very room. I have not seen any screaming wall faces though.

going to that one infected house was my scariest gaming experience. The one where you hear about three women being left to die of their sickness. You enter the house and the women just run against you while gaping their mouths in pain. It was extremely spooky for some reason, maybe because of their silent appearance

They're dynamic and can appear anywhere in the house.

...

YES today gets its comfy Pathologic thread!

What was the 500 post image?

The inability to fully look up or down, or crouch.

>They're dynamic and can appear anywhere in the house.
Wait, you mean the plague clouds?

qt

Use console commands and treat that shit like a VN if you have to, the entire game is a fantastic read.

...

What kind of loading times are you all getting?

I'm at about a minute to the main menu and 30 seconds to get into the town from new game.

>There is such little style or personality to the game

This is the single most objectively wrong sentence in the entire review.

So are the lucid dreaming sequences in or out from the final game?

Or we don't know?

Should be in. They hit the fund raising goal.

There is so much wrong with that article that honestly - it does not even deserve to be addressed. It's like kicking a sick puppy. It's not even about being a bad review: it's about somebody being apparently a pretty bad person. Like, literally the whole review starts with her talking about how she totally loves searching for unpolished gems. Which is immediately followed with complaining how the game is terrible because it lacks polish. It's just... really kinda sad.

Had about 40 secs. on my first attempt, 20 secs on my second playthrough, when I booted up the third playthrough it took almost four minutes to load up. So... I guess the answer would be "inconsistent ones".

In. The last stretch goal they actually accepted. There was quite a push for them too.

>In. The last stretch goal they actually accepted. There was quite a push for them too.

fuck yes.

I am so hyped for this game

What fucking game

>What was the 500 post image?
It was lewds, like I promised. Lewd of Capella.
A mod was lurking the thread and replied to me (after deleting the picture) but was nice and sensible enough to not ban me. Thread timed out before I got a chance to reply and say thanks. So if you're reading this, thank-you based mod
Figures someone who liked Pathologic so much would be actually sensible.

>In. The last stretch goal they actually accepted. There was quite a push for them too.
Fuck yes, I'm so glad to hear that.

So is this an offical update? or is it one of those we fucked it all up by making a fan remake and its going to get closed down because we couldn't keep our lips sealed thing?

...it's an official remake by the devs, user. Ice-pick Lodge ran a kickstarter and even an arg and everything.
Fear not, Actor.

Capella is for headpats.

Can someone try and rip the music from demo's files?

What kind of thing are you hoping to see in remake? Any big concerns?

I backed this probably about 2 years but it was the minimum for actually recieving the game on it's release ($20?)

Since i've not recieved an email regarding this alpha test I take it it was for higher paid backers?

It's a preview of the remake that is being made by the original devs. It's just a semi-independent story showing their progress.

I want the flamethrower.
I am slightly concerned that it may end up too stylized visually and lose the gritty feel of the original.

Slavs: the last true saviours of vidya

I know it would be asking too much but I would love to see the termitary and the abattoir even though they are not connected to the main stories.

Russia is so rich in literary traditions of the steppe from Chekhov to Sorokin, imagine building a world around this.

For once a remake that will come out, thanks.

As a completionist, I want a letter for every single sidequest of the day or at least someone mentioning who you have to talk with to not miss anything.

Also make the game harder because HD is easy as fuck to cheese even on your first blind run.

I can get into the assets file, can't extract the files though.

- The normal walking speed is way too slow and you have to constantly sprint to get anywhere. Sprinting also has no disadvantages and doesn't increase your fatigue.
- There's no FOV slider, and the default is pretty low.
- You can permanently lose items if you don't take them out of the trading window before closing it.
- The mind map and inventory screens don't have a clock.
- You can't right-click to automatically add items to your inventory. I also couldn't figure out how to divide stacks of items into smaller groups, or how to drop them one at a time.
- Giving the Executors/Orderlies individual names and personalities rubbed me the wrong way. It ruined some of the mystery they originally had.
- Without a loading screen between inside and outside areas, it wasn't entirely clear where time passed normally and where it was paused.

You lucky fuck.
I got a day-long ban last time I posted those pictures.

Every.
Single.
Fucking.
Time.

Every single fucking time I replay this thing, it finds a new way to fuck with me. Seriously. This is evil.

>Since i've not recieved an email regarding this alpha test I take it it was for higher paid backers?
Yeah, for those who paid for alpha access (I think that was 80 or more bucks.

>I am slightly concerned that it may end up too stylized visually and lose the gritty feel of the original.
Well, judging from the Marble Nest, we can cross that concern off the list.

>Any big concerns?
That the world will still end up feeling a little too silted and dead. Also, that the quality of the scenarios won't be up to par to what Marble Nest presented. That there won't be enough to surprise me and that in general, it won't be quite as mind-boggling experience as the original was, because a lot of the novelty is just... well, not new anymore.
That we may end up with another game that shows more promise than it really delivers.

Shift and left click to separate stacks of items.

Number keys can be used to select dialogue choices as well like in Fallout 2.

Sprinting is great, you walk while inside and sprint outside.

>- The normal walking speed is way too slow and you have to constantly sprint to get anywhere.
Disagree. Normal walking speed is actually normal walking speed. It designed to be used when you really aren't in a hurry, or when you are indoors.

>Sprinting also has no disadvantages and doesn't increase your fatigue.
Maybe because there AREN'T fatigue mechanics included in Marble Nest? Literally, fatigue is grayed out stat. It's just not there.

>- You can permanently lose items if you don't take them out of the trading window before closing it.
Actually, you don't. They will just drop on the floor in form of a package. You can pick them up anytime you want: since the demo takes place in one persistent environment, everything that you drop or leave - on the ground or in a container - remains there for the entirety of the demo. Not sure if that is going to be the case with the game - doubt it though.

>- The mind map and inventory screens don't have a clock.
Actually, I wish they removed the clock from the character screen as well. You should need actual watches, or look for street watches for keeping track of time.

>- You can't right-click to automatically add items to your inventory.
This I agree with. Items should also auto-stack if possible. Though I can understand they might be going for a frantic looting mechanics, so I'll leave that to their judgemnt, it might be intention.

>I also couldn't figure out how to divide stacks of items into smaller groups,
It's shift+click (standard scheme for dividing stacks). But it's clunky as hell.

>- Giving the Executors/Orderlies individual names and personalities rubbed me the wrong way.
Fuck you buddy, that was one of the best things they have done.

>it wasn't entirely clear where time passed normally and where it was paused.
While the demo fails to explain it, it actually pretty simple. Time stopped: the dream at the beggining, dialogue. That is all.

>Any big concerns?
It crashes every 5 minutes and with no way to save this is excruciating.

I just wanna see it in all its glory. Maybe my laptop can run it on ass settings.

:(

What are your system specs?

i thought there was going to be voice acting.
The dialogue is real good but its a lot to take in sometimes

I was using my roommate's PC since all I have is a laptop so I don't have the specs handy, it's a bit old but runs most new games comfortably. I'm going to give it a shot on this portable toaster then if that fails I'll start crying for tech support.

One of the best things they've added is Examine slot in inventory menu and that it gives a more detailed description of the item.

I'm pretty sure that even with relatively cheap voiceactors, the price for the dub actors ALONE would at least double the fucking budget of the game. I mean: do you have any idea just how much dialogue is in this game?

I think I've worked out how to get them. Just need to find the right files now.

That is great, user. If you can, try to find sick beats that play in infected houses and mourning chants from end parts of the demo.

As someone who usually doesn't like fully voiced dialogue, I wouldn't mind what they did with the original/the Planescape method of having one or two sample intro lines and maybe some of the more important or dramatic lines voiced, just to give you a mental picture of that person's voice.

The Void had some incredible voice acting so I know they're capable of pulling it off, though to be fair there wasn't much dialogue at all.

DON'T FEAR DEATH, THERE IS NO DEATH IN THE VOID

Yeah, it's really terrific and terrifying.

I hope they add in signposts for district names. When someone tells you to go to Womb, I have to download a map and look it up to know where to head since it's very vague where the Womb is.

Since this game actually makes you learn every area and shortcut I'd really like some signposts and street names to make it even more personal.

>Planescape method of having one or two sample intro lines
That is what they did with the original (every character had it's first few lines voiced, plus another few as "greeting" lines they would usually say when you start a dialogue with them).

That said, I REALLY love the way they use district symbols instead of actual words on the local house plates.

Well it's better than no knowledge at all, at least you can poke around in the general direction

I still suspect that this might be an actual troll. Like seriously: she ends up admitting that she did not get past the first day. That is so fucking blatant admission of utter failure and inability to grasp most fundamental aspects of the game (or even give them the fucking benefit of an attempt) that I still kinda suspect that it may have been all an artificial attempt to generate controversy and thus attention, rather than a serious and honest review.

Anyone else got that weird "get teleported to the middle of a stone menhir in the Steppe" moment too?
What the fuck was that about?

Or dolphin porn?

but why would she bother playing more than half an hour of a mediocre game?

gahhhhh fuck how do you even think that, Pathologic is a lot of things and I've seen it called even more things but "mediocre" and "so little style and personality" is the most fucking wrong thing anyone has ever said

I want to believe the troll argument but it's just not a big enough deal to be worth trolling. It's probably just a case of terminally bad taste, or "when I said I liked hidden gems I meant like popular indie games, not this weird shit"

>But at this point, multiple mission paths are a given feature of many AAA and blockbuster titles;

Hard for her to virtue signal and fit in with the cool kids when it's Pathologic.
