I'm new to the whole Tropico thing. It looks like i can be a dictator and shape a little island to be whatever I want. Looks pretty neat.
Right now on GOG these two are on sale and I don't know which one to get. Obviously price isn't a factor but how these to games play is. I've read up on differences but I want to know what Sup Forums thinks about these two.
>pros >cons >whats different
Eli Reed
I played both 4 and 5, 4 is a bit more complex in general, while 5 is a lot simpler and has co-op, but the game wasn't really made for that.
Xavier Flores
I probably won't be playing co-op so that's not a big factor for me. Although it isn't a bad thing.
Whats more complicated about 4?
Cameron Garcia
5 has DLC jewing out the ass, not to mention DLC that makes the game worse. Buy 4 instead. I will concede that 5 has a better campaign but 4 just feels better to play in general. 3 still holds up, especially if it's your first time being a dictator.
Austin Gomez
these games are shit, no depth at all, just a few jokes here and there and boring gameplay
Hudson Perez
both have kinda bad DLC 4's completely ruins the game's feel
Angel Collins
If I get 5 I'd get a complete edition with all the DLC. But I know what you mean by gutting the main game and making players pay for what's supposed to be in the game.
I guess I want the most custom experience I can get while still being fun. Graphics isn't a big to me either.
Joshua Barnes
Fidel Castro did nothing wrong.
Benjamin Evans
I got 4 back when it was free and It's a great city builder, great music, humor and engaging campaign. Dunno about 5
Julian Hall
Justin's dad was a bull
Jonathan Cruz
4
5 has no >Teamsters for construction >No individual wages for buildings >The road building is even fucking worse >Less buildings, less foreign powers >Combat is ass, and tanks were one of the biggest features >Era system is totally fucking pointless and goes by so fast nobody notices >And no fucking good music, just all this boring shit without any motion to it
There's probably a few I'm missing, I haven't played 5 since forever and it came out before steam refunds were a thing
4 isn't a masterpiece but 5 is a step down and probably indicative of how little Kalypso care, even after all of 4's pointless DLC
Hunter Jackson
fuck off, everything you said is lies.
5 with all DLCs is very entertaining, and ACTUALLY difficult (fucking rebels man).
3 and 4 are very good too, but they offer no challenge, and you end up being bored very fast
Carter Edwards
>everything you said is lies
If that's the route we're going then I'll just say no too
Also the rebels in Tropico 5 are a a joke as well and if combat wasn't so ridiculously obtuse it'd be even easier, I'll grant you they're harder than 4 but that's only because 4's aren't even a mild annoyance even at numbers of 300
If they want obtuse combat at this point they should just copy Anno
Jacob Richardson
one of the biggest issues with 4 is that there's no god damn mechanical benefit to being a corrupt dictator
even if you want to maximize your own bank account its much more efficient to build up your island's economy, make everyone happy and then start stealing money because you no longer have to invest in the military
yeh I know, you can roleplay and what not but you just end up feeling stupid because the other way is more efficient
Ayden Allen
Tropico 5 was such a huge disappointment to me. I haven't touched it in a very long time, but I remember thinking they made some really dumb design decisions and added half-baked gameplay mechanics that really took from the experience of being a banana republic dictator.
Haven't played it in a long time, but I remember the biggest offender being enforced democratic elections.
Got way more joy out of Tropico 4. Didn't get all the DLC since they felt like straight up cheats.
Hunter Young
>Teamsters for construction raise your hand if you actually use construction workers in 4 instead of quickbuild
Cameron Anderson
Amazing how his son turned out to be a faggot
Bentley Fisher
3 and 4 always had forced elections, but they were so easy to win.
and you can prevent elections on 5 with constitution ammends and using martial law.
Chase Sullivan
>If they want obtuse combat at this point they should just copy Anno
Combat in Anno 2070 was actually good though because they split it from the management part.
Nathaniel Wright
I remember something being fucky with the elections in Tropico 5, but I think you're right The elections in 3 and 4 were piss easy, that's true.
Ignore since I obviously have no idea what I'm talking about.
Robert Clark
So Tropico 4?
Joseph Long
Play 4, then 5 later, both are great.
Asher Davis
Thanks, user.
Robert Johnson
you don't need quickbuild. just build a parking lot first. the walk home so it takes forever.
i hate people
Samuel Jones
4 is kind of immersive and comfy while 5 is mostly ugly and frayed
