I've always wondered, who the fuck actually plays these private servers.

I mean, there are tons of b2p and f2p mmos out there. You can play on official servers that aren't run by russians doing underhanded shit, and without the possibility of losing your progress forever.

I just imagine the wow private server pop being a healthy mix of literal autists who can't move on from a decade old game that wasn't that good, teens with no money/who don't know any better and subhumans from regions that don't have access to other quality online games.

Generally speaking priests are the premier healers. However, due to debuff limit you realistically can't have more than a shadow priest in the raid for the purposes of buffing warlock damage (and that's if debuff limit is 16: I'd imagine these servers have the post-1.7 debuff limit but new servers probably start at 8 in which case this option is also out and shadow is a no-go). In terms of PvP however, shadow is a very strong spec if you manage to get appropriate gear (which might be difficult because you probably aren't raiding as shadow) but warlocks aren't too bad either.

What is the difference between Elysium Project and Nostalrius?

Blizzard didn't shut nostalrius down, they just sent them a c&d like they have for every private server.
Nost admins are just cucks and thought they could get onto some legacy team from meeting blizzard

They are releasing both the Old PvP and Old PvE servers at the same time to negate overflow. I would assume releasing an entirely new server would help with the exhaust of new players running in.

The team that is running the project (elysium, also known as Valkyrie) has said they will continue to ignore c&d like they have in the past. They have a russian realm that's almost 8 years old.

Honestly, this I did the same thing on Nostalrius, and it just sucks. 99% of the time you will be alone, and if you don't enjoy playing a priest alone, then you might reroll quickly.

Not played since BC was released. Will be nice for a little nostalgia trip. The little taste from the stress test was nice. There's also a classic DAoC server coming up around the start of the new year and with Eve going free to play my three favourite mmo's are all vying for my time. Spoilt for choice.

My first character in Vanilla WoW back in the day was a Priest, I know what I'm getting into and I look forward to it. If I wanted to have everything handed to me I'd just go play retail.

I played both. I switched to Paladin in TBC, Ret till Wrath then Prot because people in my guild were always asking for tanks for all the new content, then Holy when Cata came out because I left after Ulduar and the changes they made to Prot made no fucking sense. I quit halfway through MoP.

Priest is a mid-tier class to level actually, thanks to high survivability and relatively low uptime. The trick is not to go "I want to heal so I'll spec holy" because you don't need to be holy in order to heal or fall into the shadow trap (shadow spells simply aren't efficient until you have damage boosts from Shadow Weaving, Darkness and Shadow Form, and Mind Flay is iffy to use anyway because it loses ticks from pushback). You're ought to get Spirit Tap from Shadow and then go Disc. If you want to, you can respec Shadow at level 40 when you get Shadow Form, but DoTs+wand spec kill stuff relatively quickly (slower than a mage using max rank spells but faster than warriors or paladins for instance) and you'll never need to eat or drink so your uptime is lower than that of mages for instance.

Nothing yet on the specifics.

I don't think that will happen on the first day. I think that most people are waiting for the fresh start servers which would be a deterrent.
