On Digital Devil Saga 2 everybody you control in your party dies one by one while still trying to be a game. The final dungeon take up over 1/3rd of the game and is the sun itself (make sense in context) where you get everyone in your party with no more switching/leaving party members.

As for a game with multiple endings for the Disgaea anime they didn't use the best possible ending that you could get on the game. The anime came after the game so up for debate which is more canon than the other though.

Luchabird tried, Noivern was shit on but it's literally a weeks-old kid, Goodra at least set up the rain for Grenigger so it was Greninja in the rain against a Mega Charizard that had already been weakened by Pikachu WHILE IT WAS STILL FLYING TYPE and it STILL choked hard. Goodra and Pikachu had given the special snowflake the win and it just couldn't pull it off.
