I guess for a newcomer it would be hard, but after I learned to be more agressive and parry with Gascoigne I literally mowed down every boss in the game. Bosses and enemies in this game rely too much on combos and flailing attacks.

The saving grace is that the actual core mechanics of combat feel good.

Frenzy could have been a cool concept, the idea that you could look at something so bizarre and disturbing that it actually hurts you.
But just straight up destroying your health bar was not the way to do it.
Also, helms that block your vision or holding up a shield should have had a significant effect on Frenzy buildup, with the only thing still proccing it being things that make sound like the bug men
They didn't do nearly enough with it

You probably only say "rely on" because those are the only kind of attacks that are likely to hit you. Combos and flailing attacks are sudden and unpredictable, and can get all up in the camera and make everything disorienting.

Also there are bosses like Abhorrent Beast where you will get fucked if you try and just be aggressive, because they just jump back and keep hitting you with their extremely long arms from far out of your melee range. A lot of bosses you can only really hurt them (without taking as much damage as you give out) by baiting and punishing

There's nothing wrong with frenzy. It is supposed to be extremely deadly, so that even the most skilled players are wary of certain (rare) enemies

The Suspicious Beggar in the Forbidden Woods is one.
You can encounter them in Ailing Loran/Lower Loran chalice dungeons as well.

finally caved a couple days ago and ordered a ps4 + all the exclusives I've been wanting to play, should be coming in tomorrow or the day after

this is the only souls game that I don't have the platinum for because the ps4 seemed so horrendous in terms of hardware at launch especially compared to the 360/ps3 but now that you can get them for sub 200 and there's an okayish amount of console exclusives incl. upcoming ones it's not so bad I suppose

I'm excited Sup Forums but my primary platform has always been PC and I have a fairly high end setup with a 144hz g-sync monitor so i'm afraid that transitioning from that to sub 30fps framerates will be almost unbearable

then again there was a period of time a couple months ago where I had to RMA my gpu so I was on my 4790k's integrated graphics and was playing dark souls 3 at like 25fps on the lowest settings at 720p but I could still land parries and win pretty much 90% of my invasions and >have fun regardless so we'll see

Yeah, except Demon's Souls doesn't have one big interconnected over world. You travel to the different areas from a main hub, although each area is big and feels like its own mini over world.

It's all in your head, how "unbearable" it is. You can get used to any frame rate (from 30fps up) if you just play for a little while

I really want to buy the DLC just to fight him and Ludwig (I also want the weapons). I'll do it in a couple weeks once the semester is over, so I don't risk not getting my degree because I was too busy playing BB to do my term projects

Just got it a few days ago and even coming from Dark Souls 3 it was a slap in the goddamn face.

While the interface and general ideas are the same the gameplay feels so different it's crazy. I'm trying to gid gud but holy shit I suck. Getting used to the gun mechanic vs. shield in regular Dark Souls is strange too yet it feels so familiar I keep going.

Why is the DLC more expensive than the game? I bought a PS4 on Black Friday along with Bloodborne and refuse to pay $20 for DLC. I also don't want to play without the DLC.

I already looked up how to access it which is why I don't want to play without the DLC. Apparently you have to kill one of the earlier bosses so if it's already dead you're fucked. Also you can't beat the game without going straight to NG+ which is stupid
