Samus was a good way to do a female character.

For starters, having the start of an entirely fucking new series BEGIN with a woman from the get-go instead of forcing it in at later installments, and having her gender literally only come up if you were amazing at the game.

Metroid would have had zero changes if Samus was a man. In fact, it would have been even better since there'd be no ZSS fanwankery, no Fusion romance subplot, and best of all LITERALLY NO OTHER M EVER.

It happened like months ago, but one of the newer isometric RPGs had a female character whose character was literally just that they are female or homo or something, and this place along with other RPG fans in general blew a gasket. I keep thinking it's Pillars, but I think it's some other game.
