FFXIII

Guys, it wasn't that bad

Vanille a cute, A CUTE!

...

Why do people hate this game so much??

No. Not it was not.

All the things people say about it are true. The first 8 to 20 hours are tedious, Lightning is a massive bitch, and the passing is a wreck and that is too much to ask for any one in terms of giving the game a chance.

On the other hand the music is damn great, visually it's one of the most creative FF games I've ever played, Lightning becomes likable and her bitchiness is completely justifies (even apologizes for it), once the game gets going it is outstanding, and it has some of the best designs for enemies around. There is a lot of things it does right which is why, even though you have to put up with a lot of garbage it's actually worth it.

Did it really need sequels? I liked FFXIII-2

It was pretty fucking unbearable

nice to look at though, should have been a movie
like spirit within rite?

Fuck your Trigger Thread, OP

Just finished the series, and I had a great time. Downloaded the OST from all 3 games immediately after because the music was so good. Blinded By Light is in the running for best FF battle theme for sure.

No. I liked all 3 but XIII-2 was too short and LR was like a baseball to the head of the canon.

When XIII-2 ended it was basically a promise of something else, not LR, something more akin to the other 2 and with a more... conclusive premise. Instead we got a Lightning dress up game where she turns into a goddess because Square likes her. It's such weird kiss ass game.

It's a decent game, production value not withstanding, but it's more like a spin off than an actual conclusion to that trilogy.

Indeed, LR doesn't feel like a direct conclusion for FFXIII

I've also downloaded the ost today because I've finished all 3 games yesterday. stop copying me

The battle system was by far the absolute worst in the series. It was North Korean tier, you can't even control the party members, you have to "paradigm shift" which was SE's way of dumbing down an already easy battle system for the generation z.

Attack > Limit break
Magic
Defend
Item

See? This is how everyone wants to control the other party members. This is how it's always been done.

Then there's the lack of exploration. This is an entire different issue that also made this game forgettable. I personally blame FF10 for paving the way for this shit that is now the standard in a modern day FF game.

Now the characters... what could I possible fucking say about lightning that hasn't been said already? absolutely nothing so I won't waste my time.

All in all in was a bad experience that could never live up to the other games before it. It shits on everything that made FF great and is basically the Metal Gear 4 of the series.
It should've just been a movie...a B-rated Netflix original.

They could add some ass to make it better

No, it was. Fuck you.

At least Spirits Within had a conclusion that fucking ended the damn movie.

After ~30 hours I am finally at the place where it becomes an open area that I can explore.

I have XIII-2 and Lightning Returns as well, should I skip 2 and just play LR?

The only issue I have with the battle system is that you can't control their movement / where they stand. Enemies do AoE attacks and you have no way to move characters out of the way. You just have to get hit like an asshole.

if you have the patience i guess complete the trilogy lmao

You're right. I never disliked it. And I'm currently replaying it for the first time in years and having a fun time with it.

To me, the best one is FFXIII-2, skip LR, it's full of nonsense and time limit doesn't work

Time limit?

So now that FFXV is out, now FFXIII isn't "that bad".

Bullshit.

The positives didn't outweigh the negatives at all:

>Positives
>A real female lead (not a lead of a sequel like Yuna or a retconned lead like Terra) with a very good design
>Gorgeous graphics (Pulse looked like a living, breathing world and the cut scenes were top notch)
>Great soundtrack
>Fang
>No random battles/can avoid a lot of them if you are fast enough
>Had a story with an interesting premise that kept you guessing and wanting to know more

>Negatives
>Tutorials. Tutorials everywhere
>Battle system is a dumbed down version of FFXII's but you can only play with one character at a time and it's game over if that character dies. They took MORE control away from the player
>Datalog ( I shouldn't have to explain)
>Uninteresting and goofy-looking villain who wound up "winning" but all because the story didn't give the characters an alternative choice
>Grating and repetitive script (characters stopping to repeat the same thing over and over again in every chapter about how either "enemies of Cocoon!" or "they're going to make it through somehow because of SERAH"
>Vanille and her sex noises
>Snow's annoying, stereotypical anime MC personality
>Sazh being played for laughs or being the butt of every joke when he could have been a more respectable character like Auron
>No fight with Jihl Nabaat
>Cut scenes look nice, but they are all flashy with no substance - some of them even look like they were just thrown in at the last minute.
>Story is a muddled mess that seems like they made it up as they went along - the sequels only made things more confusing

I wanted to like it because I liked XIII-2 a lot but it's so damn slow. I know I wasted my money but I think I can live with only having played the second and third games.

I should clarify that the story did keep my interest at first, which is the positive point but as it went along and got more ridiculous it turned into a negative one.

In LR you have time limit, like a time trial

You have 15 days to save everyone's soul but it's around 50 real time hours.

I liked XIII-2 a lot too and because of that I got LR but it was dissapointing.

Stop trying to force it user. The process of hating the new hotness and accepting the entry preceding it is a natural process that gets by just fine without your interference.

Fuck souls I just want to put lightning in pretty dresses

Well, have I got the game for you!

sure, pretty dresses

Finished the first one and I liked it overall. Great Ost, a pleasantly modern battle theme that is not heavy metal. Good storyline that is interesting, good set of characters that isn't cliche.

Lack of ass ruins any pleasure you can get from those outfits.

I genuinely tried to enjoy it, but the pacing is so bad it just becomes miserable after the first several hours. It's just badly designed. The whole time you feel like you're waiting for something that's missing, and it just never comes. It's like 50 hour blue balls.

>The first 8 to 20 hours are tedious

Wouldn't it had made more sense to say, "The first 20 hours are tedious"?

>vanille and her sex noises
>negative

>wasn't that bad

It took me 8 hours to get passed that part of the game and it took my friend 20... 8 to 20, depending on your skill.

fang deserved to be on a better game.

Me too, unfortunately they nerfed Lightning's face and body in LR for no good reason so it's hard to enjoy dressing her up.

Sounds like most of the negatives are just personal pet peeves.

>Spoony

The dude is a hack when it comes to video game reviews.

In the VERY past, he got lucky with something like FF8. He had enough talk about the game itself that it could have been called a 'video game review'

BUT THEN, his FF10 review hit and it was the descent into idiocy. The best quote to summarize his failure to review FF10 was when he stated that "FF10 had the best combat in the series, but it was still a bad game'. This doesn't make any sense because any game that is bad would never feature a 'best of the franchise' talk like this.

Then his FF10-2 review came in and he just kind of skipped any real positivity on the combat and BARELY talked about the gameplay and why it was inferior to FF10's gameplay.

By the time he got to FF13, he had failed so hard to get a proper review that he wasn't talking about the combat, he barely talked about the gameplay and even just breezed through the character development. You could tell he didn't even TRY to give any real arguments to any faults in the story and just did bare minimum

>WHY DON'T THE CHARACTERS JUST STOP AND DO NOTHING! THAT WILL SAVE THE WORLD!!!!

>uh, because they already explained that the characters would turn into zombies if they did that, suffering for all eternity. Also, they stated that the Fal'cie would just get others to do their dirty work for them like Serah and Dajh.

>UH, WELL, UH... THE STORY IS SHIT!

See? Spoony's reviews devolved into nothing more than trying to review them as movies instead of video games. That's why he's a failure of a reviewer.

pretty much this. Also the story is good and no more convoluted that any other FF game past VI, especially when they give you a ton of Analects if you are really curious.

I actually enjoyed it, the only real gripes I have are the first 10 hours are a tutorial and you have to read the in-game wiki to have any idea what's going on with the story.

Holy fuck FF fans are easy to trigger

So, is FFXIII more than a movie than a videogame??

negative it is a meat popsicle

The story is great

Not necessarily. That aspect could be a controversial part of the game that the player base is split on. That's how I interpreted it at least.
