Is this game worth it Sup Forums?
I love games with tons of classes/customization and I don't mind grinding as long as there is a reason to grind.
Is the PVE fun and challenging?
Is this game worth it Sup Forums?
Last I heard it was still pretty fucked.
The developers seem to be making an earnest effort, but apparently they're retarded and still don't know what direction they want to take the game.
Looks shit
you're better off playing ragnarok online
What are some alternative games with a lot of classes? I know most say Ragnarok is not worth getting into at this point. Doesn't have to be an mmo.
FFXIV, RO private server, or FFXI private server.
FF has always had the class stuff going on and you can switch between them whenever you want. FFXIV is the more casual modern version, FFXI is oldschool and very party oriented.
RO private servers are a decent thing to dive into for a few weeks. It's still a fun game.
Is there a decent amount of actual content to justify the grind? Or is it grinding for grindings sake?
>I know most say Ragnarok is not worth getting into at this point.
find a server with a decent exp rate, like no more than 10x normal, and make sure there isn't any pay to win bullshit from "donations"
Do you have a server recommendation? Is there a server Sup Forums plays on?
The game is beyond dead. The performance alone will probably turn you away if not something else.
FFXIV retail and FFXI retail are good options if you want something you can play almost solo and still enjoy. The grinding is fairly minimal until you reach the very end of the games.
RO private servers can be grindy, but it depends on the rates of the server. In general leveling is pretty easy but grinding for better gear is the time sink.
FFXI private servers are extremely grindy but there's still a ton of stuff to do like in retail. It's just that you need a party to get anything substantial done.
It's pretty boring/below average.
Performance kills it really bad
years later you still cant do arena pvp in smooth 30fps
unfortunately the one i played on died a while back, but there may be others. TalonRO is the most popular but also has the p2w shit i mentioned, you can still get a good idea of how the game plays though
But all of them have them in many forms. The only sustain for those servers is selling shit for donations, the item may not be anything that affects the gameplay itself, but when people buy that, they sell them for millions of zeny which they use to buy the actual gameplay affecting stuff, and they end up refining valkyries all the way up to +10 and farm the mvps with their fucking clocks.
Last I heard the game was P2W out the ass or basically just the devs trying to cash in on their tiny remaining fanbase as much as possible, like by requiring a subscription just to trade with other players and having gachas.
I'm extremely sad about it though honestly. I'm playing on RO private servers and while it's fun, I felt like the beta for Tree of Savior was more fun and had the potential to be even better if they just polished up some flaws (Which wouldn't even be hard aside from the optimization issues if you ask me). All I can hope for is that by some miracle some crazy person makes a private server for ToS or something that removes all the nickle and diming.
I remember grinding for ages with the help of my friends just to make this weapon in the image for me in the beta, but since they disabled trading in the release (And then changed it to require a paid subscription) it made me realize that grinding with friends wouldn't only not help me get my weapon, but actually make it harder, since they would be taking the drops I needed to craft it, and that just killed all my excitement for the release.
What private server do you play on?
Currently trying out NovaRO, but apparently renewal/pre renewal is a pretty controversial thing when it comes to the ragnarok community so I'm also planning on playing on Talron RO afterwards.
NovaRO's exp rates are probably too high because you just completely blast through the early game (But funnily enough it's still categorized as "low" rates, probably because you need a bajillion exp on later levels) but it was very easy to set up and get into.
Think I'll try TalonRO because of the stigma from renewal. Thanks user!
What was wrong with renewal? I never played Ragnarok online before so I don't really know what the issue with it is. I want to play both versions of the game to see for myself but I've never really seen a clear answer to why renewal is worse.
I honestly have no idea, never played vanilla or renewal
My friends and I started with NovaRO just because we were interested in the 3rd jobs (And one of my friends wanted to play as a cat), and I would like to think most people just prefer pre-renewal because of nostalgia reasons, but I guess I won't really know until I play on Talon.
>It's coming to mobile
>They probably won't fix the PC version
"We need a lower bar to impress!"
If renewal isn't that bad, then what's the stigma around the official servers?
>tfw fell for the wizard psyko meme
Worst 4 weeks of my MMO career
It's ok but killed by a combination of poor performance and a complete inability to live up to the fantasy RO people remember playing as kids/teenagers, plus the game has a pseudo sub fee which makes people frustrated because they want to play it entirely for free.
Well I have a few theories (Although remember I haven't played Pre-renewal):
1. There's a cash shop in NovaRO which has been reworked into an in game currency thing, my guess is that on the official servers they were probably introducing pay2win elements or something in the cash shop.
2. Since renewal has more content (Like 3rd jobs) the game might have changed in general to try and level up your character more quickly until you're at end game, which makes a lot of the early game stuff worthless or something you can just ignore. I see people online complaining that leveling in renewal is faster if you don't bother to get a party so this is probably true to some extent. It also sounds like people liked the leveling process in pre-renewal.
3. Nostalgia, I don't really mean this in a flat out bad way, but some people probably just fell in love with the older game and don't like how renewal is different (For both good and bad reasons). It sounds like it's some people's childhood so I could understand this.
