Should I play 0 before Kiwami?

Yes, apparently Kiwami rounds up really well after 0.

Can I play Kiwami then play the original of everything else? Dub only PS2 version turns me off.

Kiwami is a remake of 1 and 0 is a prequel to it.

I would recommend to play original in the first place, but if you really don't want to play original then you might start with Y0 and then Kiwami.

i think if you play Kiwami... you might as well skip Yakuza 1

Early 2018 probably just means before winter. Still, 2 Yakuza games in 2017 is crazy. Who knows, maybe they'll change their mind about Ishin eventually.

Does these games have good stories? I played a little of 1 and only really liked Haruka.

the first one is somewhat generic japanese crime drama.
it has some twists and stuff, but it's more good execution than a great story.
the cutscenes and voice acting are nice, and the stupid amount of swearing was pretty charming i think.
it doesn't ever go crazy japanese or supernatural though, at least in the first game.

Yes. 2's story is fantastic. 3 was the weakest of the series, but still had it's moments.

So what is Sega gonna do if Kiwami does really well in America and people want 2, they haven't even announced a 2 remake in Japan

I wouldn't be surprised if they either release the HD collection or add 2 to the PS2 Classics on PSN. Apparently 5 and 0 did well enough to give them faith in Kiwami and 6 being announced, or they already know a 2 remake is on the way - I think we all assume it'll be announced eventually.

Thread made me want to go back and finish Yakuza 2 but my PS2 is dead and I can't figure out this emulator thing. It says I need BIOS roms to run it and I also need the yakuza ISO I guess to play.

I'm googling but all these sites look like they're going to give my computer aids. Any suggestions where I can get either of the above?

Nice, a Yakuza thread, I've wanted to get in the series since the PS2 days, played the first one on PS2 but never finished it, I want to get kiwami once it releases on the west but I just need to know, Kiwami is a re-release of the first 2 game or just the first one ?

Four styles don't work? What are you on about? It worked perfectly fine, natural progression from 0, only even better. Leveling up the dragon of dojima style was fun too, slowly getting back to "10 years ago" and even surpassing your old self. While I love the traditional fighting style as is, three additional styles only serve to make the game better.

Just Y1 with combat and side content of Y0.

I get you. I'll be buying PS4 in January myself solely along with Y0 and if not for it, I would still be waiting. But I can see other games coming out, maybe not system sellers, but worth checking out, like Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Miku with shitloads of songs or Persona (though it's still on PS3). And soon even more Yakuza.

that one time something goofy happened, and kiryu looked really annoyed or serious, but the goofy thing kept happening, and then kiryu still looked serious, and then a fight happened

Sega went through a lot of financial issues with A:CM so they had to can Yakuza 5's localization to save money
Sony stepped in to help them finally get the game brought over and after seeing how well 5 did even with being a PS3 game two years into PS4's life span, they saw potential

And even now, they won't bring over Ishin. Shit hurts, fampai

Sega is flat out convinced to not bring that over because it's too Japanese for an easy localization, hopefully Nioh does well enough to convince them that Samurai's are popular
