Just picked up this game from a friend who said it was boring; what am I in for?
Dragon Quest thread
Dragon Quest VII
I thought it was boring too but I think its just the start that is just abysmal. This is probably one of the slowest paced jrpgs I played in a LONG time. Its sad because I heard the original was worse.
It took me 100 hours to beat. It's -really- long and the game is padded out as fuck. But i didn't regret playing it.
Got my first jobs and just stopped feeling it. When does the story get interesting? Does it ever get interesting?
My favorite DQ game. Is it your first one? If so it can be a little overwhelming.
I disagree, yeah there is somr backtracking but I never was annoyed.
But that's when it gets especially good.
>what am I in for?
A huge, story driven game. If you love NPC dialogue and story arcs, it will be your dream game. If you prefer gameplay and exploration, it will be boring for you.
Either way, its still a good game. Just not for everyone. All you really need to know is that each story arc you play feels incomplete by itself. Then some 40 hours later, you will run into a character from that story arc or return to the original area, where the story picks up again and comes to a conclusion.
You're in for a good JRPG if you stick with it. Just get through the first few story arcs and it really picks up. I miss the daily threads we had when it came out
A good Tsundere.
...
FUCK KIEFER AND FUCK THAT DANCER BITCH AND FUCK THEIR DAUGHTER
OR GREATx100 GRANDDAUGHTER OR WHATEVER

AND I WAS ACTUALLY EXCITED TO GET THIS BITCH BEFORE I STARTED PLAYING BECAUSE SHE'S FINE AS FUCK
BUT THIS BITCH IS BLAND
I HOPE KIEFER DIED OF PAST AIDS
IT FELT SO GOOD TO LEAVE HER OUT OF THE FINAL BATTLE AND STRIP HER OF HER GEAR LIKE THE SLUT SHE IS
>DQVII
>bad gameplay
Gameplay is great though. I fucking loved doing different jobs and battling monsters.
Feel better now?
Who's your favorite girl?
Heroes 2 when
>But that's when it gets especially good.
Not the same guy, but I feel the sameway, I just saved el ciclo and just finished uo that herbie sub-plot in the past, but I am still not feeling it and I played and loved every DQ except for 3 which I haven't played yet.
Hell I am replaying DQ IV on android right now and I am liking that a lot more than VII.
I WANT TO KEEP KIEFER'S SISTER LOCKED IN AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH ME
AND NOBODY WOULD DARE CALL ME OUT ON IT BECAUSE I SAVED THE DAMN WORLD WHILE KIEFER WAS FUCKING GYPSIES
HONESTLY SHE'S BEST GIRL AND I WOULD TREAT HER GENTLY

TOO MUCH TSUN NOT ENOUGH DERE
SHE CUTE THO
STOP SHOUTIN' I'M NAPPIN'!
I see then.
Just wondering.
FUCKING SHIT I'M SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME
My point wasn't that the gameplay itself is bad, but that there's far more story than combat. You will spend 2 hours talking to NPCs, then 30 minutes in a dungeon fighting a few random battles and a boss. It feels like the opposite of a typical Dragon Quest game.
VII is my personal favorite, maybe I just see more in it then most.
III is very good but there are better ones in my opinion. In comparison of other DQ titles I feel it has higher higjs but lower lows. Phenomenal game though. Play the sfc version, looks and sounds great.
I am gonna play 3 and finish 7 eventually, I beat so many of the mainline games that I might as well beat all of them.
Except for X ofcourse ;_;
>female thief
Dick status: MUH
...
>Finish DQ: Builders campaign
>no Alefgard free mode
what the fuck
>DQ3 girls still haven't been topped
DQXI better step up the waifu game. Though those gnome things from X are really cute.
>DQ3 girls still haven't been topped
I disagree. Alena is basically a DQ3 fighter with a better design. And Medea is the best girl in the series.
I do like my DQ3 girls.
It's possibly the longest main quest in any JRPG ever. that being said it's very enjoyable, even if some of it is a tad bit padded out. by the end of the game i came to appreciate the sheer amount of story content, not even counting the hours of optional npc dialog and party chat in every possible area. i also learned they removed battle chat in the 3DS version which wouldve been even more
Fighter is basically one of the worst 3 girls, though. I meant overall.
>not fighter
>Fighter is basically one of the worst 3 girls, though.
I vehemently disagree. She's my favorite from DQIII. Both in design and in class. Especially if you give her all the thief and merchant skills (which require no MP). You get a character who is the strongest physical damage dealer and also the most versatile outside of battle.
What little I played, Dragon Quest 7's NPC dialog alone is anything but boring. Its nice when developers actually put in effort into what characters say.
>fighter
>worst
Leave. Fighter is the best girl.
is it the 3ds one op?
It's okay. We all have bad taste in some way.
I just finished this last week at about 85 hours. It was my first DQ game, and I enjoyed it enough to get VIII when it comes out in January.
My only gripe with this game was the huge difficulty spike at the final boss. Up to it, I had beaten everything with a reasonable amount of challenge, never having to grind. But the final boss kicked my ass repeatedly, and I had to trek through that fucking dungeon dozens of times to retry, and I still couldn't make it past his second form. I had to devote about 6 hours to nothing but job-grinding before I could beat him. Really dumb balancing there.
On the good side, I've never been more impressed by a game's dialog. EVERYONE'S dialog changes after EVERYTHING. It's absurd! I'd fly to bumfuck nowhere and people would comment on whatever I just did, and my party would comment on what the people said. Crazy.
Who's your favorite girl?
Dragon Quest games in general are boring, even Sup Forums's beloved VIII.
V is the only one that's decent for the most part
You posted her.
I'm a bit dense user.
> If you prefer gameplay and exploration, it will be boring for you.
I swear we played a different game. Exploration is on point, gameplay is on point.
>Sup Forums's beloved VIII.
The western audience as a whole likes VIII the best because it was advertised. When Dragon Quest VIII comes out on 3DS, you're gonna see the media and hype be 100x more than DQVII on 3DS.
Its not limited to Sup Forums. Sup Forums is just following the external hype, as usual.
Compared to other DQ games, there isn't really exploration. At leasrt not free roaming exploration. You go to a small island where there's set locations. Now if you consider talking to NPCs and exploring towns to be sufficient exploration, than DQVII is one of the biggest exploration games in all of RPGs. Since there's 400+ NPCs to find and 50+ towns/castles.
