id software have completely stripped Doom (2016) of Denuvo - only copy protection is now steam stub.

This follows a similar removal of Denuvo by the developers of Inside.

Probably because Denuvo is expensive to license.

nice source fag

the news sites should pick up on it soon. only got confirmed ~30 mins ago.

Well good on them.

>I've been playing this since last week
>Having a blast
>Try to play it today
>Ready to launch in approximately: 3 hours 20 minutes
>wat
>can't turn off automatic updates and playing offline is not possible
PC master race

>spend a good chunk of money on awful protection software that actually reduces sales.
>several games with said software bomb and don't sell well at all.
>One of your games sells well IN SPITE of the software and realize that it's better to remove it.
I hope the use of Denuvo was a fad and not something that will be standard in the future.

Could it be publishers are starting to notice Denuvo kills both immediate release game sales and kills long-term game sales?

I mean, PC is the unique platform with the potential for sustained sales over a long term, compared to consoles where all the sales are in the first month and then never again because consolebros will just buy the Used copy from Gamestop for $5 cheaper.

>Proper mods soon
nooice

thank god, I've got an SSD and I wasn't sure whether the Denuvo SSD killing meme was real. At the very least this should improve load times now that the data isn't encrypted.

they only need it for a time to turn a profit

removing denuvo was mistake coz now it gets pirated. actually giving PC games at all is a giant mistake.

Consoles do the same shit now anyway, sold my ps4 because it didnt really offer any convenience over PC since I had to deal with the same shit anyway.

i wouldn't see this as the start of a trend just yet.

Doom and Inside were both cracked by CPY. Nobody really knows (despite claimed leaked emails) what the exact deals with denuvo are and if they continue to pay a percentage of sales to denuvo it doesn't make sense to keep using it when your feature-complete single-player centric games are all already cracked.

Squeenix continue to use it for Just Cause 3. EA continue to use it for all titles.

both games were cracked prior to denuvo removal.

I understand why developers want to stop piracy but DRM is mostly pointless on a platform like the PC and ends up fucking over legit customers. The only DRM that even remotely works is what the PS4 and Xbox One use, and that's because there are billions of dollars riding on it.

HDCP 2.2 is also complete bullshit as it is the only reason the PS4 and Xbox One can't watch 4K Netflix, and it was cracked more than a year ago.

Just noticed that 10 GB update.
Wonder if it will fix perfomance 'scratches', that happen even if game run at 60 fps

>whether the Denuvo SSD killing meme was real
exaggerated
It can increase SSD wear rate, by constantly writing data on it.
And even that, only if you regularly run short on RAM, because it's when Denuvo uses your SSD to store temporarly data.

Good to know, I've got 16GB of RAM already and could easily go to 32GB if I needed it.

You can play a game offline while it is updating on PS4....

ITS HAPPENING PC GAMING IS SAVED

DENUVU IS GETTING FUCKING ASSRAPED
GOD BLESS

youtube.com/watch?v=0G8a_KiWjUg

But you will be paying for your games instead of pirating them, right user?

actually yes
hopefully games wont run like potato shit anymore

>remove something from game
>11 gigs

>gets cracked
>"we removed it see|
kek

Too late, already on my "don't buy, don't pirate, don't bother" list. Get fucked.

They roll it in with their updates to multiplayer and snapmap.

>pcuck problems

> I will not play one of the very few really good FPS of the last 10 years for stupid reasons.
> Get fucked

Fuck. The game takes like 80 Gb now I bet.

Only affects pirates, which isn't exclusive to PC gaming.

I've never played the multiplayer once yet I've probably downloaded 25 gigs of shit just for that.

Has piracy ever been a substantial issue for PC game sales? I recall reading an article several years ago that said effective DRM doesn't make an impact on sales.

85 in my system, had to uninstall because SSD

They Never gonna remove Denuvo if it wasnt cracked at all.

Example : All 40+ Uncrackable Denuvo games

> stupid reasons
>not overhyped and overrated
> Get fucked

Overbearing DRM decreases sales, because people who would normally buy the product turn away from it instead.

Not having DRM doesn't decrease it, but it does lead to a bunch of annoying faggots playing whatever game it is.

Said annoying faggots would never buy a game anyways so if a game's DRM stopped them from pirating they'd just go download a different game instead and make up excuses. Since they don't buy at all, their buck was never a factor in the first place, thus making them not a lost sale either if they download a game without DRM.
