Why do people insist so much that videogames are art, yet nobody ever complained that chess isn't considered to be art?

Why do people insist so much that videogames are art, yet nobody ever complained that chess isn't considered to be art?

Whats the intrinsic (NOT superficial, like music, I can play chess with music) difference between the two?

Chess = Art
Uncharted 4 = Junk

Try playing metropolisimania 2 then get back to me, kid

Who fucking cares. People who say video games are more art than anything else are fart sniffers who don't give a shit about what the term "game" means at all. See the Order 1886, a piece of shit "game" with nothing but QTE's and shit gameplay in exchange for Cinematic themes

bump

Because you can't find

>music
>sculpture
>writing
>drawings/paintings
>acting

in chess.
You can find all of them in videogames and vidya development, and they're all considered "art".

Because they need to justifie movies like Uncharted 4 somehow, so they just call it art and thats that.

So apparently a fine chess set crafted by an artisan isn't art but a flash game is.

I literally addressed what you said in OP post you fucking faggot, but in case you're that retarded I'll go point by point
>music
you can run Beethoven music while playing chess, does it make chess art?
>sculpture
some chess sets are exquisitely handmade and sold for thousands of dollars, does it make chess, a GAME, art?
>writing
Accidental to many games. Shall we discard every videogame that doesn't make you read a novel?
>drawings/paintings
See: sculpture. As far as graphical fidelity goes, chess shits on every vidya ever by the virtue of taking place IRL
>acting
see: writing

the board and pieces can be works of art, the game itself is just a game

>So apparently a fine chess set crafted by an artisan isn't art
The chess set is art
The game you're playing isn't
Still, you're playing with a piece of art

>but a flash game is
A flash game that feature good writing, acting, sculpture, drawing and music? Why not

>I literally addressed what you said in OP post you fucking faggot
No you didn't

>you can run Beethoven music while playing chess, does it make chess art?
Yes, if playing Beethoven music gets included in the rules of the game of chess.

>some chess sets are exquisitely handmade and sold for thousands of dollars, does it make chess, a GAME, art?
>Shall we discard every videogame that doesn't make you read a novel?
Only if they don't have other art in them

>drawings/paintings
>See: sculpture
Not related at all. Concept artsts often literally need to create entire sets of paintings before a game gets even developed, and let's not talk about 3D modelers.

>acting
see: writing

>sculpture
There are some finely crafted chess sets out there.

>writing
There are books upon books about ches.

>acting
A lot of people on Sup Forums like to act as if they can play chess.

chess is art.

somebody had to design that board and those peices

>Yes, if playing Beethoven music gets included in the rules of the game of chess.

>playing a videogame that's art
>turns off the audio
>suddenly its not art

>rules
You couldn't play said game without the music (unless it was based on visual cues from the sheet music).

>There are some finely crafted chess sets out there.
And they can arguably be considered art.

>There are books upon books about ches.
Too bad they aren't part of the game of chess.

>A lot of people on Sup Forums like to act as if they can play chess.
What do you think about the "new" champion? It was his birthday and he's a virgin, pretty sure he was going to kill himself if he didn't win

>admiring a renaissance painting
>close your eyes
>suddenlt it's not art anymore

Because nobody gives a shit about chess. It's literally like golf, a meme "game"

>nobody gives a shit about chess
Except russians.
If you're good at chess in russia, you fuck like a rabbit

what is it with the eastern part of the world and chess? every single russian i ever met was weirdly good at chess, same thing with arabs

Arabs had their own kind of chess, and can't do shit according to their book.
So they play chess

Games can be very "artistic" in their design. Chess, for example, is a very balanced and fair game, so you can appreciate the design of the game because it is fun

The whole deal with wether video games are art or not is completely manufactured.

Around 2007 when faggot casuals had just got their Wii and were on the verge of entering the medium as a newfag about to ruin everything, there was a desire among actual gamers to see games LEGALLY RECOGNIZED as art. This is not for validation or anything but simply to prevent faggots like Jack Thompson trying to get stuff banned again as he had only just recently been a thing back in those days. We wanted games legally recognized as an art to prevent censorship and intervention on behalf of governments because they are "toys of something". It was a reaction to soccer mums and the media going on about muh violent video games.

No one fucking cared if they were culturally considered art. It was a purely legal thing, since a lot of counties censored video games too like Germany and Australia since they are not legally art so can't get away with things like featuring a swasticka in WW2 games or having certain types of violence or sexuality etc.

Then these newfaggots join and see a lot of people talking that games should be art, and think it's some movement about games being super good stories or some shit, and they've all just played Bioshock 1 for the first time and think it's the greatest thing ever when it's just a dumbed just soft reboot of SS2 in reality. So they needed to validate to their friends that vidya was legit so they hijacks the games are art movement into making shitty art games and trying to prove that games are on the same level as the other arts thematically.

It's literally an issue that only casual faggots would care about. Vidya being art or not doesn't matter culturally, only legally since it needs that protection to avoid dumb censorship laws.
