I'm looking for the best gaming laptop I can get for $2k and under

Just go to best buy's website and compare prices and specs. They actually have a pretty good selection with good prices

Lenovo Y series or anything by Asus, especially the ROG series. If you don't plan to do any modern gaming the Surface Pro has some amazing features.

Gaming Laptops are a thing now since;

A) Games have stagnated for years and haven't progressed much graphically

B) Gaming Laptops are finally getting real video cards put in them

My job requires me to sit in a hotel 90% of the year so a Laptop is a must for PC gaming. Have fun OP.

Or, you could spend $2k on gym equipment and healthy food to get fit. That way you won't need a gaming laptop, because you'll be surrounded by hot girls raring to suck your penis dry.

>I dont want a fucking desktop
have fun with your shit computer retard

> wants an alienware

stupid 13 year old detected

Asus, Lenovo and MSI make the best prebuilt gaming laptops. Alternatively, go to services like pcspecialist.co.uk, and customize your own.

>literally wasting your money for literal commercial bullshit, when actual healthy life simply requires small adjustments in your diet and way of life.
GG no RE

Buy an Acer predator, thank me later.

I use a MSI gaming laptop. No complaints and had for last couple of years.

I have an MSI Apache Pro GE70, a bit older and cheaper but still runs most new games like The Witcher on medium at 30FPS.
Had it for 3 years and only had a problem with the fan rattling but it was easy and cheap to replace it.

Then make a micro pc you dumb fuck

I put a 6700k/1070 into a shoe box and its fucking amazing

Assuming you're a burger get a gigabyte p35x v6 or something from Auorus. Maybe even msi, but what ever you do make sure it has a 1070, those are the closest if not better to the desktop counterpart. 1060 gets heat throttled easily and nivida will absolutely drop it and everything below it once the next series comes out.

t. Cancuck.

Hijacking OP thread
1070 or 1080 for my gaymin desktop?

1080 gets heat throttled to FRICK. Also the 1070 on a laptop is better in most cases because it's an under-clocked 1080 and it has more shader cores.

You'll get a lot flak for going for a gaming laptop OP but I can certainly say they've come a long way.

I would recommend looking at ones with decent cooling as a lot of the high spec laptops will suffer from thermal throttling .

Personally I picked up a second hand Asus G751 at the beginning of the year for almost half the RRP of a new one (£1000~)with 14 months warranty on it and it basically hadn't been used. The great thing about the G751 is the cooling system imo. It's quite heavy but I don't really have an issue carrying it around in a rucksack.

The 980m it has is pretty much the equivalent of a 970 GTX desktop card so handles all the games I need to play ( runs games like BF1 on ultra at 60+ fps just fine ) .

You'll always get better value for money with a desktop but new gaming laptops are pretty great if you need the mobility . Mines mostly used because we have no room for a desktop in the living room now wr have a child, it also comes with me to work/ my friends LAN parties

>gaming
>laptop
don't do it, user
it's not worth it
build a $1200-1400 gaming machine and get a $800-600 laptop for school

you don't want a huge, bulky, loud gaming laptop that's mediocre at being a gaming machine AND mediocre at being a portable school machine

On the contrary.
I'm not one to support over 1k $/€ laptops, but I do know the practicality of the devices. I also know way too many people still cling or parrot the ancient laptop memes, that have not held much truth for years.

I would not call 800$ laptop exactly "mediocre" either. You can get a literal 1080p/60fps capable gaming laptop for that money.

>I'm looking for the best gaming laptop I can get for $2k and under
acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/NH.Q16AA.001
>I dont want a fucking desktop
You will have a hard time finding a desktop, which can beat that offer.

Don't fall for the gaming laptop meme.

I fell for it and every day I wish I would have bought a desktop instead. Battery died and I don't have anywhere to take it anyways. I thought of taking it to work for those long down times but then I was scared of it being stolen.

Yea it really has improved over the years and gotten cheaper to boot. I think its mostly just people parroting old meme opinions like you said.

get a desktop

>its mostly just kids parroting old meme opinions like you said.
Remember, you are on Sup Forums here.
This board is full of pretending tech-illiterates.

Why would you ever fucking game on a laptop? Use a trackpad? What the fuck is wrong with you

Check notebook review forums OP. Most are going to point you towards sager/clevo as they generally have some of the best price/performance specs. If you got the cash, go Aorus. Avoid shit like Razer Blade as customer support is non-existent. Avoid Alienware unless your prepared to completely tear down the system to fix shit because of a flawed heatsink design (though some recent reports have said they corrected this).

What company did you get your laptop from?

I got this, OP. It fucking flies.

amazon.com/GL502VM-G-SYNC-Gaming-i7-6700HQ-7200RPM/dp/B01KB0WJ1G/ref=pd_lpo_147_lp_t_4/159-3427909-2551829?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=03KTKDZNDYQHS0Q7059W

>Why would you ever fucking game on a laptop?
Because they are easily carried laptops, at best capable of running anything and everything desktops can. At best, they are way superior than any mobile or home console, and that does not even require much to be honest.

>Use a trackpad?
What kind of moron are you?
You really think people would game on that?
Ever heard of a MOUSE?

In fact... what is wrong with you?

>being afraid of this and that
>buying one when you don't do long journeys or lack space
no son. You are the moron here.

if you don't care about how bulky or large it is, get a desktop to carry around.

msi

I learned my lesson

Man look, I'm not against having an accompanying laptop that can also run games from 2003 or something but a gaming laptop just isn't right.

If you want something portable and you are willing to blow 2k get something like the Maingear Torx or if you want to dial back that budget a bit the Alienware Alpha R2 (the R2, the original is underpowered shit) or other small PC. Yeah you'll need a monitor, but thats better for gaming anyway.

The biggest downside to a gaming laptop is the inability to upgrade your GPU. Any modern build will be bottlenecked by the GPU, unless you get a shit-tier CPU. Mobile versions of GPUs being inferior to their desktop counterparts just makes this problem even worse.

In about 3 years your GPU will start showing its age. You'll struggle to keep settings on high and ultra on the latest games. And you can't just buy a new GPU and spend a couple of minutes installing it. By replacing your desktop's GPU you can double its effective lifespan.

I suppose it all comes down to how much money you're willing to spend. If you're okay spending ~$2000 every 3-4 years to keep up with the latest games, just for the advantage of portability, be my guest.

>but a gaming laptop just isn't right
You sound like some mainframe guy during the 1980s, who convinced himself, that the Personal Computer can't do shit.

oh look, another parroting "desktop mustard" memer.

Excuse me while my 2012 cheap non-gaming craptop plays even 2015s games just fine. A machine with goddamn i7 and 1070 will be able to play every. fucking. thing.

Stop! I have to let you know that gaming laptop GPU driver doesn't have the same driver like most PC ones, which means gaming laptop will have much shorter gaming (and to extend graphic heavy require program) life span.
They don't tell you this anywhere.

If you really have to buy one just go for medium or high-medium one but never high end gaming laptop.

>i7
>gtx 1070
>cheap

way to fail at reading comprehension.
My old craptop does not have any of that, and costed mere 399€ off the store shelf.
The OP's machine is the beast described above.

if you're going to be a fag and carry anything around so you can "game" you might as well go all the way and get a purse you fucking embarrassing

For $2k you could build a fucking beast of a desktop that is going to last you years and years or you could buy a laptop with worse specs, is more likely to flat out die on you, worse cooling, and you're likely going to buy a mouse and end up using it like a fucking desktop anyway and always have it plugged in.

Gaming laptops always have been and always will be a scam for idiots. Even a prebuilt is better than buying a fucking gaming laptop.

>Mobile versions of GPUs being inferior to their desktop counterparts just makes this problem even worse.
Laptops now carry desktop gpus now fyi, that has changed within last year or two.

>cucking yourself with a desktop
stop. Girls think computers are for loser nerdy virgins and will never respect you, and you're not going to be actual work anyway. Laptops are fun on the go, it shows you're down to fuck.

>gaming
>laptop

just buy a normal laptop with an integrated gpu on an i7 or something

gaming laptops have graphics cards too big for them that overheat a LOT and not the kind of overheat that means it gets kinda hot, more the overheat that it shuts down every 30 mins into playing anything remotely taxing

its not worth it

How the hell do you stick something like a full GTX 1080 inside a laptop and power it?

youre probably the kind of dumb tryhard faggot that would actually buy a razer laptop

also a virgin

Just the fact that he's able to hold his entire setup is pretty amazing.
Every LAN I went to, we had to make two trips.

What job do you have, it sounds comfy

Yeah, girls are gonna be impressed when you're playing as your waifu in Overwatch on your $3000 Alienware machine in the back row of your psychology 101 lecture

>carry anything around so you can "game"

Maybe he wants to carry it around so he can work on stuff.

i have a 1000$ asus that somehow managed to play darksouls 3 at launch without any issues

so i'd recommend one of those.

There is nothing wrong with Alienware, except it attracts bitter, salty and sour grape ire from poorfags.
I'm not really that fat, it's the angle of the picture

No, he's on Sup Forums, not Sup Forums

>that arm fat and double-chin
>subway wrapper stuck under that poor excuse of a desk
And a new Jared was born.

Asus ROG laptops are damn good, just make sure that you get one with IPS panel, SSD and Pascal GPU.

Not him but I need to use Autcad, Photoshop and Revit, also edit video for stuff. And i need to do these things in multiple places.

How is a desktop a better option.

>this entire fucking post

You are the fucking posterchild for the gaymen lapturd. I bet you sit on campus alone with your laptop plugged in and mouse connected sitting in a way so that no one has a view of what you're playing just like everyone I see on campus that has a gaming laptop.

it's bait, but my friend had an alienware and always bragged about it
he died

Good question, but it happened.

newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA24G50F2455&cm_re=acer_predator-_-34-315-653-_-Product

>he died
jesus, didn't know laptops were that dangerous

I have an ASUS G752VT-DH72. I have to say that I CAN'T recommend a gaming laptop in good conscience to anyone who doesn't absolutely need one (I work on site, which means I'm stuck in a small town north of where I live half of the year).

It's highly situational. You're always getting way more performance for your dollar with a desktop. Not to mention most laptops, even larger ones, are stuck with a 17.3" screen, which simply isn't enough when 27-31" screens look much better at the same resolutions of 1080p or 1440p.

Some beastly laptops now come with the GTX1070, but those are often $3200+ and not at all worth it.

You can buy a cheap prebuilt dell and if it has a good mother board just buy a new PSU and a GPU and BAM you got a*Gaming* pc. About 280$

As far as gaming laptops has come they still have a very fundamental problem. And that is the inability to upgrade. With a desktop I can upgrade individual components to keep up with the growing need for processing power or GPU but with most laptops you're stuck with your hardware unless you crack it open and do some MacGyver shit (in which case you're also voiding any warranties you might have on the thing).

i spent 3k on a msi laptop two years ago and its still very nice.

they were faggots about one of the units they shipped me having a dead pixel though. their customer support literally said 'that kind of thing happens we won't replace it.' so i just returned it through the vendor and got another

i'd stay away from physical retail locations and order one via newegg or amazon or the manufacturer

I just bought myself a MSI Leopard Pro whatevershittynumbers with an i7 and a GTX 1060

It´s a massive upgrade from my old 550ti desktop and considering I'm doing a working holiday now and will probably move to a new city every 2 or 3 months, a laptop was the only choice.

> Autcad, Photoshop and Revit, also edit video for stuff

That's some entry level shit that even Macs and iPads can handle. You need a workstation PC with workstation GPUs to do any sort of meaningful rendering work I'd imagine if you do game development (indie or otherwise).

For my line of work I use MRST, Schlumberger ECLIPSE, and CMG Suite. And these don't require good GPUs but rather a lot of processing power that only a desktop CPU can deliver.

>photoshop

That is almost strictly RAM dependent, why even bring this up.

That's fair then. A laptop becomes a necessity if your living situation might chance or if your work moves you around a lot, which is my case.

>i'd stay away from physical retail locations and order one via newegg or amazon or the manufacturer

Wait, your experience seems to indicate otherwise. Where your brick and mortar store got you a replacement but MSI snubbed you.

>wants a laptop
>doesn't care if it's large or bulky
>will keep it plugged in at all time

Yeah, you actually want a desktop

Some people are too retarded to make sense of a graph, buy things off of it, attaching the things together, and plugging it in.

Jesus really? Dick move on MSI's part.

Why not just carry around a desktop? I travel around a lot for work, and that's what I do. You people act like desktops are super heavy or something. Is everyone here scrawny or something?

Yea thats a good raisin. I got mine when I was in the army and was moving around every 6 months. I knew one guy who had a desktop in the army and he payed the absurd shipping cost to mail his desktop around. Fuck that

>Why not just carry around a desktop?

My work requires me to fly twice a week on a small chartered airplane (off to site on Monday, back home on Thursday).

They have luggage limitations, also flying two times a week is too much moving around.

or you could not be a complete retard

>Some beastly laptops now come with the GTX1070, but those are often $3200+ and not at all worth it.
...the fuck? Just an hour ago another user was asking about this i7 + 1060 laptop that went for less than 1500 bucks! The 1070 variant of the same thing was just below 2000 dollars.

Stop paying for brand toys.

I'd rather just play vidya.

OP here.

I frequent /fit/ and have a home gym already set up with power rack and all.

thanks though! good advice otherwise

take a look at this faggot

For fuck sakes, for games anything that has 1060 - 1080 that's it

>I dont want a fucking desktop

Why?

okay ill be honest.

I want a gaming laptop so I can lay in bed and play / browse.

I don't want to sit upright at a desktop

Alienware is owned by Dell now silly willy.

i didnt say i want an alienware.

it was just the pic i used for this thread

but i am considering an alienware 15 r3

Get a fucking desktop

Here's the laptop i just got a month ago for $1200. Thinking I fucked up by not getting the gsync version though. I'm getting screen tearing in some games even with vsync on.

Overpriced

Hard mode
Gaming laptop with IPS and metal body

>I don't want a desktop
>I want a laptop that i will keep on the cord at all times and will set on my desk/bed the whole time

Here's why you're dumb.
1) You can get better performance out of a desktop than you could a laptop of the same price. a $2000 desktop will be so much better than a $2000 laptop. every time.
2) You're going to keep it one place anyways, so who cares if it's a laptop?
3) PCs can now be built using mini cases so you get the tininess (I understand you probably live at home or something and your room is tiny. or you want to hide a big unnecessary expense from mom and dad.
4)The best laptops have heating problems. It sitting on your desk or bed while you game means overheating. Cooling pads are shit, always. If you're going to buy extra fans, just go with a desktop anyways. You obviously don't mind fan noise.
5) you could build a mini gaming pc and put it at the foot of your bed or whatever and just run the monitor/keyboard/mouse to the top of your bed. it's about the same form factor of a gaming laptop but better performance in every way. you can lay down and game like a true fatty. but at least you would be an efficient fatty.

Don't be retarded. get a fucking desktop you faggot. no matter how you try to justify it, you're being incredibly stupid buying a gaming laptop.

>muh dedicated graphics card though

Yeah they're mobile versions though which means less power. you're paying for it to be smaller instead of power. that's dumb. If you want to pay more than $2k you can get a real dedicated card in a laptop but again, it's going to be as big as a mini pc

>That's some entry level shit

That entry level shit lagged like crazy on my old pc and my new laptop is doing more than fine with it. Plus it's portable.

You bastards are starting to convince me to get a desktop.

I just don't want to build shit myself or do any actual research.

Wish i saved that meme with fry ... "Shutup and take my money"

>I just don't want to build shit myself

Fucking idiot. Pre-builts are a scam. Building it is always much, much, cheaper. It';s not even hard, just watch a video of someone doing it, and follow along with what he does.
