Does Elo Hell actually exists? Are otherwise moderate or better players being held back by shitty matchmaking?

No, not really.

Sounds like an excuse to me.
But I'm a Platinum shitter.

It exists. but just for players who don't practice their mechanics, look over their replays, or even try to improve their aim.

Season 2 I calibrated at like 2650, ended the season at 3518. My decision making improved as I learned how to deal with certain line-ups or how to position myself better on certain maps.

If you're in silver or gold or plat and you just mindlessly play ranked matches over and over again, you're probably not going to improve unless you start examining your weaknesses as a player.

>ELO hell

Well they have some good music, so I'd probably enjoy it

Just
Git gud

What if the match is lost right at team pick when your teammates refuses to switch to certain roles because muh DPS ?

Overwatch punishes you if you have any skill so you'll be stuck in high Gold / low Platinum unless you are a casual shitter the game is aimed at.

There will be games like that.
There will be games where the other team is fucked from the get-go.
But there will be even more games where it's basically a toss-up as to which team will win.

Solo-queue is basically a dice-roll, but the team with the most uncooperative or unhelpful players will usually lose. I had one game where we had a Reinhardt lament how her previous game was awful because people didn't cooperate. Yet as soon as things started going south on our team she starts saying passive-aggressive shit over comms, which helps no one.

A few games later, I got on a team where we just stomped the other team on Vodka Industries but they managed to squeeze by and put up the same amount of points as us. On their turn to attack, there apparently was some in-fighting going on because one guy just ran at us as attack torbjorn.

Both of these matches were at 3500-3600 rating near the start of S3 so take my word with a grain of salt if you must.

However, you can't win 100% of your games unless you are like 20x more skilled than everybody else in the match. It's just not realistic.

Its all earrape versions of all their songs.

I'm a plat player and I went to rank 222 this season and then went back up to plat.

i want to say no but somehow i got from winning easy 2 matches and then raped to kingdom come in the next 3

Damn it

Elo Hell only trully exists in Overwatch if you main healers or supports.

Since the game mostly revolves around breaking past chokepoints only the dps and tanks have any real impact on that.

You fell to 222 SR?

Only in non-ranked mode.

In team based games, yes. The problem isn't that your teams aren't equally matched, it's that it only takes one person to go full tilt and ruin it for everyone. The problem is the lower your rank is the more likely you are going to deal with this.

Yeah, I wanted to get to 1, but I got lazy.

Yes. But you really have to suck to get there.

You get low enough that there's nothing but toxic people or people who are just plain bad, and it's impossible to -solo queue- your way out.

You could queue with a decent team to escape, but really you only are getting down that far if you are as bad as the toxic people and the guy who plays like a mom.

I boosted a friend's account solo queue from 2100 to masters by playing Tracer and Mcree until 3k, then Ana and Roadhog.
Then, I did it on another account.

In Dota 2, a streamer is constantly boosting and playing on different accounts, all of which are very high MMR.

In conclusion: Maybe Elo Hell DOES exist, maybe it doesn't.
In most situations, I'm willingly to bet you just fucking suck and you're where you belong. In some, you're probably in some rigid as fuck location where you need to play out of your mind to escape, but your environment doesn't teach enough about how to become a better player. I hope that makes sense to you.

it depends on the game. some games like quake or CS the skill ceiling is so high that s skilled player can carry the team on his own and at the other end of the spectrum a bad player is unable to completely throw the game on his own.

conversely you have games like dota where the skill ceiling is alot lower, it doesn't matter how amazing you are you can't work miracles. and also in dota a bad player has an extreme amount of power over the direction the game goes. a bad player can decisively undo all your hard work and give the opposing team a huge advantage.

Truly good players never get sent to elo hell.

If you are in elo hell, then you are the same as the demons that torment you there.
