How does Attila compare to my favorite total war games? I keep hearing mixed review but I want honest opinions.
Attila total war vs Medieval 2 & Shogun 2?
Its barbarian invasion 2. Bretty gud overall with functioning siege battles.
It's better than Rome 2 but still not the best game in the series despite what some fanboys say and there's still some reasons to go back to BI.
needs a WW1 game where the "towns" are fortification points that have a strategic and real time tactical view for assaults.
Medieval 2 is fucking garbage, don't bring it up again unless you want to get laughed out of the thread.
Attila is the best historical TW, Warhammer is best fantasy. Rest is trash.
For starters, BI didn't have the retarded and poorly thought out tier system for units where units with shields get replaced with naked two handed units. Also with BI the roman units didn't look progressively worse with every upgrade while they do in Attila. The battles are pretty solid pace wise with not being too slow or too fast and the dynamic fire mechanic actually makes sieges a lot more interesting than Rome 2 since you can set buildings on fire and watch it spread to towers and burn them down. The campaign logic is a bit fucked up too thanks to the Rome 2 systems but it is still an improvement over base Rome 2. Some problems are things like strait crossing being unblockable by ships since armies can walk right past navies, the inability to control garrisons aside from garrison buildings in minor settlements, and the army limit system. The family tree implementation is nice though and fixes the edict and governor system of Rome 2 since you appoint governors to provinces now and it also fixes the civil war system. I would have to say it's the best of the bunch when it comes to modern TW games but still definitely not the best in the series. That would go to Medieval.
Shogun 2 and FotS were good although I can understand why some people would hate on Medieval 2. I just want to know if it's as unplayable as many people claim with performance issues, horribly unbalanced AI and other stuff.
Ignore the /twg/ plebbitor.
t. history major
My favorite strategy series is fantasy. Mechanics trump setting and Warhammer was a mechanical failure with how they dumbed down the game in every aspect.
Warhammer is shit
Shogun 2>Rome 2 With DEI>Napoleon>Attila>midievil 2> Vanilla rome 2>empire
t. junior archeologists
Which Shogun though
So I only have Medieval 2 because Warhammer isn't cracked yet, to my knowledge anyway.
Is the Warhammer mod for Medieval 2 any good? Because I think I'd only play that or the Hyrule one.
>So I only have Medieval 2
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It's better than the Warhammer game but way less stable than mods like Third Age. Get the BotET submod.
Medieval 2 (with mods) is the best tw game to date.
Cheers.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
found the retard.
Basically this.
>Legend is doing a no win campaign
THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN
>Warhammer mod is in four parts and they want me to wait 2 minutes per part at gimped download speeds (50kb/s) because they're Russians
I don't suppose anyone here could help make this a little less painful?
It's probably a safer bet to go with Third Age + MOS/DAC.
Scratch that, think I've found a slightly better host.
At least it's only an hour instead of 10.
I prefer Warhammer over Lord of the Rings, at least in terms of games.
>mouthbreathing public education drone
So can anyone give me a non meme answer about the game?
I already gave you one
Best Total War game in the series tbhq
Only problems I can think of are the performance and recycled voice acting from Rome 2(not really a problem if you havent played Rome 2 yet)
Literally the best Total War game
Are there any good mods that aren't fucking terrible like Radious?
How bad will the performance be for a nvidia 970GTX + 32gb RAM + 4th gen i7?
You can probably get 20K+ battles with little performance issues.
That flagrant shilling though, how embarrassing.
What's your objective opinion?
>m-muh shills!
Its the best in the series.
With the AI of Attila/Warhammer its honestly hard to play any of the older ones again except Shogun 2 and Napoleon, and only because blowing people up is sweet.
That's a straight up lie. I have a 390 and basic large battles will still lag at times.
Attila is fantastic, but is strongly disliked by retards who haven't played it, probably because they think it's just Rome 2 or whatever.
Family tree and faction politics is more developed than it ever has been. Hordes and the ability to raze settlements are objectively some of the biggest mechanical changes since they introduced naval battles.
I can't get into it with the modern CA campaign map.
Shit load of limits on what you can and can't do with your armies and cities as well as the replenishment and agent system put me off every time.
They should have stuck with the 2D campaign map.
Fucking stop.
>S-S-STOP HAVING OPINIONS I DONT LIKE
It's probably the most unique total war, the focus on survival instead of empire building is nice if you're in the mood for seeing everything turn to ash in your hands.
...
What is that picture supposed to prove?
Turn down, EVERYTHING!
That I'm only one person, and I'm allowed to express my opinion
Nice photoshop skills, shill.
How does a picture of three random people none of whom are you prove anything?
But the middle one is me, (You)'s got removed
???
>if you play anything but Medieval 2 you're wrong
I pity you tbqh tho
You're the one that brought up Medieval 2 dipshit.
>if I sperg out more I'll salvage my dignity.
In my top 3 TW games.
I'd say Shogun 2 > Atilla = Warhams
Fully modded shogun is the best, the warhammer because of the variety the mods offer.
If you are asking about vanilla, attila is better (and warhammer is very limited)
Why do I love Skarsnik so much?
It's pretty simple when I iz finkin' 'bout it.
Skarsnik izn't just da best character in da War'ammer world, 'ee might just be da greenest character of all time.
Just imaging 'im riding fru da halls of Karak Eight-Peaks, da wind in 'is 'at, 'is mighty Gobbla below 'im.
As 'ee rides fru da World's Edge Mountains, da Stunties soil demselves at 'is very scent.
Dey knows 'ow 'ee smells, da essence of 'is smell iz in da Stunties Book of Grudges unda da name of "Skarsnik Fungusm"
Da very nature of Skarsnik iz mystery.
Could 'ee be playin' a deepa game den even Gork and Mork realizes?
Da answer iz yes, 'ee 'as transcended such boundaries as da written world, and 'as free will to do woteva 'ee seez fit.
'owever, Skarsnik iz filled wiff such cunnin', such morky craft dat 'ee does not even use deese powers.
Why, you might ask? You will neva know, for da mind of Skarsnik iz not one dat iz easily penetrated.
Skarsnik iz such a force of Mork in 'is realm dat nofink can truly touch 'im, da only fink keeping 'im bound to da page at all iz 'is will to exist wiffin da preordained boundaries of 'is world.
Skarsnik iz not only beyond da compre'enssiun of us, 'ee exists wiffin a plane of true gorkiness and morkiness.
Observe 'is playful smile, 'is gorgious and rippling Gobbla, 'is gallant nose, and most importantly, 'is eyes.
'is eyes, like pools of shinies, provide da only glimpse into da true maschinassiuns of Skarsnik. Do not stare into dem. Many good boyz 'ave gone dead in da attempt.
Skarsnik iz not just a character, a formless collectiun of words and images, 'ee 'imself iz da binding dat 'olds da Warhammer world togeva.
Wiffout Skarsnik, da entire War'ammer world, da entire Games Workshop as we knows it crumbles.
No Stunties or Ratboys would be stomped wiffout Skarsnik and Karak Eight-Peaks would become a desolate crater wiffout 'is iron fist.
Deese are just of a few of da reasons why I like Skarsnik so much.
Attila is great.
My main complaint is combat still hasn't retained it's "meatyness" from the older engine.
Units smooshed together unnaturally in Rome 2 though it's improved in Attila.
That and the major versatility of the older games is still not as good.
Still limited on how many generals you can field.
Still can't field an army without a general.
Still can't add unique units to a garrison.
Still limited in the number and types of agents you can use.
Agents in general suck in Attila.
Gates don't have burning oil anymore.
Still, Attila is among my most played.
By older engine you mean from Medieval 2 and before?
So, which TW game is the best for a complete newbie? I also want the option to mod the shit out of the game if I get tired of the vanilla setting. (The only sort of related games I've played is some RTSs years ago, and my personal favorite game, Warband)
I've heard good things about Shogun 2
I've heard that Warhammer is good for new players, but I'm not really interested in the setting
I have a friend playing Medieval 2, but he's literally a narcissistic sperg, so I don't trust his opinion
Medieval 2 is a great starting point to the total war series. It isn't very demanding, cheap, good expansion and arguably among the best from the serie. It has its flaws but they will only become obvious after 100h+ invested in the game.
One thing though that is important for a total war game is if you are into the era of the game. I am a medieval weeb and generally interested about history so that's why total war games have an appeal for me
>Added new game mechanics like flying units, magic, factions that have entirely different gimmicks and play-styles
>they dumbed down the game in every aspect
>every aspect
TW:WH was dumbed down in many aspects, but holy fuck are you clueless.
You just read that article that said that and now its your new opinion, right? You've never actually played it, especially not when it came out.
>recommending Medieval 2 to a newcomer
what the fuck's wrong with you? do you want to turn him off Total War?
Your favourite TW will really boil down to which setting you like or are indifferent to the most. I hate the time periods this and Empire are based in so I can't get into the games.
Can someone explain all this shitposting about Medieval 2 that's happening in this thread? Is it a fresh new meme over at /twg/ or something?
what? it's objectively worse than Attila and Shogun 2, while Warhammer is better for new players and Rome 2 is better if you use DEI
>dumbed down the game in every aspect.
Shitposter fuck off
How's Rome 2 emperor edition? Is it worth a try or is it still broken? Is Attila better?
Shogun 2 or Warhammer
Rome and Attila are pretty bloated with features (not necessarily bad) and vanilla Attila campaign is really hard on new players.
If you don't mind playing older games, the 1st (shogun, medieval) and 2nd generation (Rome, Med II) are also good
>You've never actually played it, especially not when it came out.
If he played it when it came out he'd only hate it more.
Seems like everyone conveniently forgot what a broken piece of shit it was.
reactionary shitposting to all the Med II shitposters who never shut up about how terrible modern total war is and that Med II was flawless
It would be nice if we can have friendly discussions about it
Its great, mods are fantastic but face it, its old, clunky, handles poorly and at this point would be a horrible entrance to the series with all the improvements in the new games, I would kill to get med2 in any of the new engines. Shogun2 would be a great start point I would think.
but warhammer and attila are both more balanced, varied and complex than medieval 2. let me elaborate a bit:
-diplomacy is not broken and actually works. non aggresion pacts, defensive alliances, confederations, etc.
-agents are done right
-lots of variety in armies, at least in warhammer, instead of polish knights/english knights/portuguese knights etc all being recolours of the same unit
-actually difficult, m2 poses no difficulty whatsoever unless you're really terrible (nothing beats WRE legendary or chaos on legendary if you don't cheese the start)
-shit actually happens on the map, with events and such, unlike m2 where there is a grand total of 3 very very meh events: crusade mongols and the world is round
you're either a retarded nostalgiafag who cannot see without rose tinted glasses which means you need to leave this thread or you are actually so dirt poor you cannot afford to buy/run the newer titles which are massive upgrades over the old ones.
>M2 comes out 2006
>Its okay, has a lot of issues though which are overlooked because there is very little competition, mainly other TW titles that cant compare due to being dated even at this time (Rome 1 being exempt)
>Empire comes out 2009
>Its absolute shit
>Napoleon comes out 2010
>Its still pretty bad because most people dont like the time period anyway
>Shogun 2 comes out 2011
>Its taken 5 years but an okay TW game has finally come out, mainly good because it isnt as shit as the games in the last 5 years
>FOTS comes out and keeps all the line warfare fags who hated Empire/Napoleon happy as well
>Medieval 2 is still claimed to be the best though because of its extensive modding support
>Rome 2 comes out 2013
>Its absolute shit, once again reinforcing M2 as the king (with S2 as the weeb alternative if you cant be fucked playing a game that came out in 2006 that is a pain in the ass to play due to shitty controls/interfaces and outdated mechanics)
>Attila comes out 2015
>it finally dethrones Medieval 2 as the best TW game, but because people are still pissed about Rome 2 its shitposted to death by people still jaded
>Warhammer comes out 2016
>Absolutely shits over all previous TW titles because its new and different while finally solving the ultimate issues of all TW games; every faction playing the same but is also attacked extensively for not being historical
So in answering your question this isnt some new 'meme' but more the realization by people that M2 was good because CA are shit developers and for over half a decade they released shit after shit and it wasn't until Attila/Warhammer that we finally have two games that are better. "M2 is good" is itself a meme that broke down once better games got made.
Are sieges any good in Attila? And do battles go as fast as unmodded Shogun 2? I hated that shit.
>total war games
All are shit tbqh
GSG is white and based
whatever you do, don't listen to the turbo autist sperging about medieval 2, it's a horrible start for a newcomer.
start with shogun 2. you'll love it. i also recommend attila and warhammer but they are pretty unforgiving for beginners
>GSG
Literally more casual than TW, at least TW has some level of reflex involved
GSG can be summed up by either
>Abuse economics over and over
or
>Abuse assassinations
>defeat doomstack of huns
>it regens back to full next turn and attacks again
dropped
t.alex
I was the one that recommended Medieval 2 but I forgot to add only if you didn't mind graphics and like the setting. But yeah Shogun 2 is very good too
fucking GOAT. just go WRE legendary survival mode. Every turn takes 1 hour cuz need to micro fucktonns of things and fight garrison battles.
Still my best experiance with total war games
No, it isn't. If he likes the setting and installs SS, it's a good start. Starting from the newer ones will make it harder to go back too.
>ck2
>eu4
This games aren't GSG lad
Is the DLC worth buying?
>these GSG games are not GSG
Okay Sup Forums
Now fuck off
t.parajew meme lord
>implying he isn't talking about vicky when he says abuse economy.
Do you even liquor?
>Okay Sup Forums
wew lad
Only the Empires of Sands is worth buying
The other factions are reskins
The campaigns are meh. Charlemagne is as close to a modern version of M2 you'll get.
Those were arguments in my favor on how an old game like Medieval 2 is still good today compared to the other garbages titles. No not nostalgia, Medieval 2 was my first total war game bought in 2012. Although in retrospection, Shogun 2 + Fall of the Samurai are excellent games too
>its the best total war game
wew lads
>gsg
>not a Sup Forums infested shithole
Feel free to go post a Muslim campaign and see what happens
not white and not based
I burnt myself out playing total war, because of Rome 1 and medieval 2 with mods.
I didn't seem to get past 20 hours of playtime with shogun 2 and rome 2 before I got bored. I also see how they are milking wallets with dlc that cost more than they're worth. So I ditched the series.
pic unrelated
gsg is communis
Red and based
B-B-B-But Attila is "The best Total War!™" And its on sale right now! Please buy it!
>I played two shit TW games after playing two good ones and got bored
No. Shit.
