Was this any good? What was it like? I remember seeing it on shelves when it first came out and wanting to get it, but by the time I actually cared to try to find it it faded into obscurity.

Combat's fun and flashy as fuck though it can get repetitive. Story is kind of passive like FFXV, but the cast is brilliant feels like your watching a group of established friends. Huh talking about it now it shares a lot with FFXV.
Same as great and underappreciated besides the plot is weird and fits the whole theme of the game

>What was it like?
pure awesome. but very hard game to get into.
It's basically a slice of life about a group of mercenaries doing mercenary things while some big plot goes on in the background.
I liked it, but the combat is hyper repetitive once you know how to play, it involves a lot of grinding to find bevels, the arena is dogshit awful to look at with one track for BGM despite being like 100 hours long, and the tutorial flat out does not teach you how to play the correct way.
So I'd never replay it. But I had a lot of fun.
>but the combat is hyper repetitive once you know how to play
this is a lie.
Literally just spam Hero Run/Tri Attack.
I loved them in Project X Zone 1 and 2
Pretty good, good artstyle that fits the gameplay, characters and plot surprisingly well.
For something as simple as gameplay is, surprisingly it didnt got boring till the very end and only probably because was grinding a lot.
Some really cool enemy designs, it really unique in every aspect, technically its your regular JRPG but it doesnt feel like a typical one with all totally different gameplay and all the flashy matrix moments.
It has lot of sweet moments but bleak world and whole gloomy mood around it creates creates an interesting effect, not your typical final fantasy game when there is shit about to go down that will threaten to destroy the universe as we know it and characters throw around your usual cheery fluff.
It combines various elements like western, sci-fi, fantasy but the end effect is something else.
Also, as this user mentioned interactions and dialogues are awesome, every cutscene was fun to watch Lene is qt3.14
Also, read some online tutorials on combat
As one user mentioned, ingame tutorial does a poor job at explaining shit.

/k/ never disappoints me

I was put off by this game for so damn long because years ago everyone hyped this up to be the hardest thing to get into. People would say things like "You could take a college class on how to play this game."
It's ridiculous how much people overinflate the starting difficulty. I was shocked when I saw that the difficulty rating was actually less than the Disgaea series, but it's true. There's a bit of a wall when you first start learning but that's only because it's not like anything you'll have played before.
I'm seriously convinced that the complaints about learning a new system are an issue that only exists because games these past few generations are all so similar control and mechanic wise. Something like this plays differently and people act like not knowing how to play right out the gate is somehow horrible.
Be honest Sup Forums, the only reason why yoi know this game is because PxZ.
>attachments don't show up ingame
Biggest disappointment with the game.
When you get to the part where you fight helicopters, the difficulty kicks up 10x and I didn't care enough for the game to continue but if you're man enough you will enjoy the game past that OP!!!!
It's so fucking good.
No, I found out about it around it's release thanks to a review.
Wasnt put out, on the opposite, watched some yt vid where some dude talked how hardcore and difficult the game is and was instantly like I am getting it
As you said just because it has two types of damage and the whole combat thing, people just couldnt wrap their heads around it, its not your typical JRPG where you have to attack or use magic, here you have to plan your movements and attack patterns to not get killed when facing more dangerous enemies or bosses.
Shitty ingame tutorial didnt help, apart from that wasnt very difficult, it it was you just had to farm a bit and upgrade your weapons and get back.
Remind me what was so difficult about them?
I think I used armor piercing or anti machine ammo and they never were a problem.
>Protect the statue
Also post guns
it had some good ideas, but two huge flaws
one, there's only four kinds of weapon. Pistol, automatic pistol, smg, and grenade. You get all these pretty much off the bat. All you can unlock is slightly better versions of the same meaning combat never change.
Two, the game has a plot about the government doing shady stuff and the conspiracy to keep hidden the true nature of life on the babel-esque tower.
For most of the game that has NOTHING to do with your protagonists.
>Here's this chapter's mission. So save some people or whatever.
>do it.
>cutscene of the magistrates talking about their conspiracy
There's no investment or incentive to keep going.
So playing the game offers no new guns and, until the very end, pretty much no new story. yet the battles get more and more difficult so you can't just breeze through to see the ending.
If a sequel came out I would definitely be interested but as-is I can't recommend it as a good game
10 outta 10 I doesnt get much better than this
It's a strange game. The combat is bizzare and pretty deep but has a very serious learning curve, as it's nothing like most any other game i've seen.
The story is mature, well-written and awkwardly delivered. I enjoyed it. It's not some coming of age story or weeaboo fan-service; it's kind of a vaguely dystopian mercenary/errand-runner scenario. It's pretty good, if you've a taste for non-hackneyed writing and don't need a narrative shoved down your throat.
It can get repetitive and there's a fair amount of grinding, particularly for items you utilize on the world map to open new areas, enable bonuses etc.
Altogether, i'd put it at a very solid 7 or low 8 out of 10.
For reference, I'd give FFXV a solid 6 or low 7.
Great game. Weird/awesome plot. But it is very Japanese. Not for everyone.
It's like Nier or the Last remnant in style. If you enjoyed those kind of games you'll love this. Christ explaining this game is hard.
It's alright. I was really disappointed at the lack of weapon categories and customization just being drag and drop upgrades. The gameplay gets very repetitive but it's pretty fun for awhile.
