Really makes you think
I hate pretty open worlds you can't actually interact with
BotW looks like it has good core gameplay, though.
Nah, people are looking forward to BotW because it's the exact opposite of your average generic open world game. It seems to have tons of handcrafted segments. Webm related. This entire mountain wall is 100% handcrafted.
And never forget; Zelda actually has huge dungeons which are purely handcrafted. Unlike other open world games. It doesn't even need obstacles everywhere in the overworld. See Wind Waker, everyone loved it.
How many users does Sup Forums have?
I only hate open world games where there is nothing to do. From what I've seen so far, I'm not worried about that here
Less than 30 guys constantly changing IPs
I don't think that the problem are "open world" games, rather than a bad execution.
It appears to. Be that the gameplay and mechanics of the new zelda are very well implemented and suit the open world genere in an excellent way. At least in my opinion
Sup Forums isn't one person you fucking faggot. I like some open world games
Xenoblade X and maybe Zelda will probably be the only really big fantasy open world games that don't heavily abuse prodecural generation, sadly.
>Sup Forums is one person meme
>Is this a Sup Forums is one person episode?
>everyone loved ww
Are you the same retard from last night that admitted to dying to a keese?
Sup Forums is only a person, you fagget
just you and me
>Like Fallout New Vegas, MGSV, and GTA V
>Don't like Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs
>Can't tell if I'm Sup Forums or not
>posts shitty webm supposed to look impressive
>>people are looking forward to BotW because it's the exact opposite of your average generic open world game
>>See Wind Waker, everyone loved it
What is wrong with you?
Just me.
they say watch dogs 2 is good. is that true?
It's better, but it still has issues. The gunplay sucks as does the driving. The hacking stuff is a lot more fun and the world is better designed.
5/10 it's okay.
>Nintendo makes the new zelda open world
I think most of the zelda games are open world my dude. 10/10 if bait tho
I don't get this at all. Like, just because there are loading screens, does it make previous Zeldas any less open world?
The biggest difference is being less linear.
Its marginally better than first game in some areas and worse in others like the general on foot stealth and combat feeling better in the first game
>there are tons of shitty open world games that don't deliver the shit that would make a good open world game,
>Sup Forums dislikes this
>Nintendo, the gaming company known for innovation, takes their top non-casual series, TLOZ, and makes an open world game that seems to actually take full advantage of an open world where you can interact with everything from the grass, which you can burn, to the trees, which you can knock down and use as platforms over gaps or rafts down rivers, to rocks, which you can use telekinesis and other powers on, and mountains, which you can climb and navigate
>Sup Forums likes this
I wonder why.
you could explore the majority of the overworld in OoT immediatly after you leave kokiri forest.
I know, I'm agreeing with you.
It's less about the loading screens and more about the content. Like, you can't just say "Oh, I'll skip the main quest and have fun exploring Death Mountain" in past Zelda games, there's always someone blocking all paths but the correct one. The exception would be a few of the 2D games like Link Between Worlds, which let you do most of the dungeons in whatever order you find them, but people quite obviously don't mean 2D games when they say "Open World games".
nintendo has never not knocked out a game out of the park imo
i know it's cool to shit on skyward sword and twilight princess, but i really enjoyed both of them, and I'm willing to bet they'll do even better with BotW
i should probably clarify
*not knocked a zelda game out of the park
The fact that you can ACTUALLY straight up fucking climb a mountain for once immediately sets this apart from 99% of open-world games for me.
In fact, free-climbing any rough surface as a default mechanic is a huge deal for exploration in my eyes.
>sucking Miyamoto's dick that hard
Oh, so you are one of those fanboy who always posts the same 5 webm on BotW and saying that the game will be the second coming of Christ
>there's always someone blocking all paths but the correct one.
you can apply that same logic to rockstar games though.
>Like, you can't just say "Oh, I'll skip the main quest and have fun exploring Death Mountain" in past Zelda games, there's always someone blocking all paths but the correct one.
I mean, it's more-or-less the same for other games.
Assassin's Creed forces you to go to one city at a time, you're not allowed to full explore from the get go.
GTA makes you do at least a few story missions before truly opening up and letting you play around with the more expensive toys.
Fallout and Skyrim are probably the only ones that truly allow you to do whatever the fuck with no regards for the story.
Just because it's linear in its design doesn't make OoT or MM not an open-world game.
Who brought up miyamoto? He's not even working on the game. He's just overseeing animation.
that pathetic looking grass and nature in general.
meanwhile on pc...

>11:45
Skyward Sword and Phantom Hourglass are huge stinkers. Bad enough for me not to trust them for a while.
Never played Spirit Tracks.
open world in itself isn't the problem, it's the bullshit it usually but doesn't necessarily always engender:
> cut and paste set piece locations
> rubber banding enemies
> shitty combat based more on RNG and canned animations/effects than actual hitboxes and aiming/mobility
I think that Nintendo deserves to at least show the game before we conclude it will be Bethesda-tier garbage.
...
that picture is invalidated because there's no third-party equivalent
Then they wouldn't be open world. If you don't have the freedom to do stuff outside of the "correct path" of story mode, it isn't open world. I don't know about all of them, but I played GTAV recently and nothing forces you to do the story, you can immediately go around and do whatever the fuck you want without any trouble. Steal cars, kill people, do quests, ect.
Zelda has always been open world you fucking stupid retard
Wow, that sure is impressive looking grass. If only it was interactive or actually mattered like the grass in BOTW. I will take functional and interactive gameplay over pretty but stale and rigid uninteractive gameplay.
>what is Horizon
Everytime I say anything bad about Nintendo I get banned for 'Intigating flame wars'
So I'll just say I LOVE NINTENDO THEY ARE THE BEST, OPEN WORLD IS THE BEST THEY DO NOTHING WRONG THANKS NINTENDO AND THANKS MODS
And people aren't shitting all over it, completely and 100% invalidating that entire arguement.
Horizon is another open world game that doesn't let you climb anywhere, has no cooking mechanics, no telekinesis, no sword combat, no runes, no shield sleds, no items aside from guns, doesn't let you pick up enemies, and doesn't have fire physics.
They're two completely different games user.
Can you climb any surface in Horizon
Maybe if you weren't such a sarcastic insufferable cunt the mods wouldn't need to keep banning you.
>And people aren't shitting all over it
You're a blind fanboy.
Honestly it's on the low end of things I'm excited about (especially after the shitty gameplay demo from the VGAs). A dedicated jump button and climbing is pretty cool though
I'm more excited about how soon I'll be able to emulate it and laugh at people who bought a Wii U for it
>Sup Forums hates open world games and shits on them nonstop
>Same Sup Forums that sucks The Witcher's, GTA's and RDR's cock and is also tsundere toward Xenoblade Chronicles X and the Elder Scroll, Fallout and Assassin's Creed series
The "Sup Forums hates open world" meme has never been true.
I didn't know sarcasm and criticism wasn't allowed on nintendo's Sup Forums
THANKS FOR LETTING ME POST MODS, I LOVE NINTENDO IM NOT INSTIGATING THANKS
>>/allthethread/
>You can't like something for good reasons
I haven't given horizon any attention since I haven't bought a PS4. I don't need to shit on it because I'm not going to play it. Why waste the effort?
I'm sure it's gonna be a fine game.
But who am I kidding I took the bait.
I always thought open world was a superior format for a video game. So many titles these days use it as a shitty gimmick though
The 1st Zelda was open world.
>2014 reveal trailer
>"Whoa, look at dem gorgeous rolling hills and grasses! So, this is the power of Nu-tendo?"
>2016 trailers
>"I-I'm not gonna play the game to stare at grasses, fucking Nu-tendo haters!"
but the point is that the entire map isn't available from start. for example in rdr you can't go to blackwater at the beginning of the game.
>hey, you can't do this specific little thing in Horizon. Can you burn grass in horizon? No? Haha completely different game, your point is invalid
Of course they aren't
It looks like Riot IRL killed your account for you.
because this place is Nintendogaf
Yes.
You can climb, synthesize, create trap, can pick up and climb enemy, have every realistic physics. It's also looks good, unlike zelda.
There is literally a thread shitting on it in the catalog right now.
But I'm looking forward to Horizon as well..
It actually has the same issues people use to shit on Zelda, so it isn't a good example
No, you're a faggot that doesn't realize Sup Forums shits all over literally everything, this is THE website for shitting on stuff. Go on any other gaming website and people are hyped for Horizon, almost a quarter as hyped as they are for Zelda.
so there are two threads shitting over both games? Wowww
You deserved the bans desu
Closer to a million unique visitors a month.
Sup Forums is the second fastest board on Sup Forums, followed by Sup Forums, which toppled Sup Forums for 3rd place.
Just me and you baby
The Witcher series is the same.
Subnautica also exists.
The problem is when people conflate procedural with open world, or conflate Bethesda games with open world. Bethesda is a garbage company that hasn't developed a good game in over a decade. They're only good as a publisher.
Saying the game isn't LOZ isn't shitting on it. It looks like a (beautiful) decent generic open world game, while Zelda looks like an attempt to make an open world game that delivers on all of the things an open world game should have.
ok, enjoy safe space
I've seen people here actually defend Nintendo taking down fucking ROMhack
Nintendo fanboys are the worst kind
It's okay when Japan does it.
>Something insanely popular does a thing and remains insanely popular
Really gets the noggin joggin
>Just because it's linear in its design
OoT is not linear in design.
I have a feeling their cutting Breath of the Wild development a little short so it make launch window, might be the first Zelda/Nintendo game ever to get like a DLC expansion after launch
I've seen Sony Fanboys defending paid online.
Sony fans are the worst kind
in its structure? It absolutely is. You have to do the temples in order, aside from Spirit and Shadow.
Morrowind, New Vegas and Dragon's Dogma are generally well regarded here though.
>cutting development short
You what? They've delayed it since 2015.
They literally delayed it from last year's release window TO put it on the Switch
>in-development for 3 years
>cutting dev time short
I doubt that. The release gap for the Wii U clearly points to it being ready this year but getting delayed for the Switch.
Nintendo can't really charge for online because they can't into proper online infrastructure
The first thing you have to learn about Sup Forums: It's already more worthwhile just by the principle that Nintendo™ are making it. For example, if Sony or Microsoft made Pikmin, Splatoon, or Amiiboo it would get like 20 posts of discussion. On the contrary, Ninendo™ making a mediocre product elevates it to an essential and instant classic on Sup Forums.
And that totally justifies Sony taking your money for "free" games right?
Doesn't matter what order you do water and fire in either.
I agree with you, Nintenbro. This is our safe space and no #hater should post here
I never said there weren't. You said that nobody shits on Horizon and i very easily disproved your retarded statement.
>Cutting the development cycle of a game that was supposed to come out in TWO THOUSAND FIFTEEN
>Can't differentiate "their", "there" and "they're"
You're a special kind of retard, aren't you?
Well either way, my point is that OoT railroads you to certain temples for half the game: That is linear design, despite also being open-world.
>paying for a service
fucking sonyponies !
what other games have sony or MS made that are comparable to Splatoon, Pikmin, or Smash Bros?
You can cut that grass, chop down those trees, swim in that river, climb that mountain, then hang glide off it. More gameplay in that one screenshot than in your typical empty... sorry, open world game.
>paying for P2P connections
>for a game you already bought
>using a machine you already bought
>over an internet connection you already pay for
There's no fucking excuse for paid online and if Nintendo ever does it I'll crucify Reggie.
Nintendo innovating with the cutting grass and swimming technology, thanks nintendo
>It's not okay for a feature to make or break a game, and you're absolutely not allowed to enjoy TECHNOLOGY
Console warriors.
Well, Sony tried making Sony Smash, but it was an embarrassing blunder with a fucking abysmal roster because Sony was dumb enough to lose the rights for its actual mascots like Crash and Spyro and couldn't even afford Cloud from Square, unlike Nintendo, despite FF7 never having been on a Nintendo console.
> You have to do the temples in order
That is absolutely not true at all. Fire is completely independent of everything else besides Shadow. The Well has no point where it's required to be done at all. Spirit can be accessed fairly early too as long as you have Epona and the right equipment.
>the explosive barrels suddenly going off
God, every fucking time
