Have you ever beaten the original Sonic? And if so did you have to use save states?

Beat it in one go with all 6 chaos emeralds
Really good game
I used the Level Select cheat so that I could get the first Chaos Emerald before I started the actual game, so I could get a head start at the good ending. The game itself is fun and there really is no need for safe states unless you're debugging it or something.
yes. its great.
But there's seven, you lying fag
Not in the first game
try harder
Yes. Got the 6 emeralds too.
No. I beat it on the actual Genesis.
No, it's seriously not hard at all.
Sonic 2 however... I used save states out the ass on the final boss
yep. never did get all the emeralds
Many times. The game isn't really that hard once you get a feel for the physics so I never ended up using save states.
>Needing Savestates for Sonic 1
Sonic 1 is without a doubt more difficult than 2.
Beat it as a kid on my mega drive because back then I was poor as hell and for a while, it was the only game I had besides streets of rage.
Original Sonic, no.
But I did beat Sonic 2...on a old keypad phone using the just the number buttons. No one knows the dedication that took, but I was very bored.
Kinda proud actually
Only difficult part is Zone 4 and not dying of boredom in Zone 3.
Yes. Did it in last year. Took me an entire year to do it. I still have to beat Super Mario Bros, though.
I actually forgot if I did but this brought it all back.

I had all the games on megadrive.
Yes. No. It's not like this is a great challenge or an obscure game to beat. However, the boss battle in the water zone can be a bit tricky at first.
FUCK YOU LABRYNTH ZONE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID
Don't forget that holding A then pressing start after a game over takes you back to the last world you died in, as opposed to the beginning of the game. I had the game for years before I found that out.
Hilariously the only Sonic I haven't finished is 2.
The original? Nah, Genesis got stolen along with the games.
I beat it on Sonic Mega collection, Ultimate genesis collection, Sega Genesis collection and mobile port.
I didn't know that either back then. I also never beat it without the fire going into 8-4, so those last few levels were real stressful.
I've beaten Sonic 1-3&K with all emeralds and all endings because I'm an autist.
I did play Sonic 3D Blast, but I can't remember if I beat the game. I hated that game so much, but I rented it so I felt obligated to play it. The problem was the game kept freezing at the lava level.
>Have you ever beaten the original Sonic?
Yes
>did you have to use save states?
No
it's a gr8 game m8
Played this game a couple weeks ago only to find out it hasn't aged as well as I thought it did. The tagline for the series is "Gotta go fast" yet there's not actually that much in Sonic 1; most of it is slow, tedious platforming sections.
I guess this must be a case of early installment weirdness because I don't remember Sonic 2 or 3 being that bad about it.
>The tagline for the series is "Gotta go fast"
You realize that line is from the shitty anime right?
Sonic is about fast but there's nothing that says he has to be going 200km in every game.
Literally just beat this game with all the emeralds, no save states.
Its alright.
no
and i only use savestates at the beginning of each level as 'lives' are anti-fun
Something I really love about this game is how the environments gradually become more industrialized as you go.
You start out basically in nature, save for the ocassional totem pole. Then you go onto the ruins of an old civilization, then into a more modern city, and eventually into a giant factory.
Sonic CD did something similar as well, only it spanned per zone rather than across the entire game. The past is primitive and has a lot of overgrown vegetation, the present is moderately lively with some contraptions here and there, the bad future generally has technology dominating over nature and polluting it, and the good future has the two working in harmony.
Kind of a weird message for a kid's game but interesting nonetheless.
Exactly! Thats why slower characters with slower platforming like Silver or Werehog are great. It lets you truly appreciate the fast bits in the game. Marble and Labyrinth and even Spring Yard are garbage but they really let you appreciate how good Green Hill and Starlight is.
I played it on Mega Collection and beat it. Didn't get all the emeralds, though. My godbrother played the hell out of it and the other titles on the Genesis, and I kinda learned the how-to from watching him.
Sonic games arent hard. Proper babbymode platformers.
Only thing that could possibly fuck with you is the bonus stages, but even then you usually get multiple tries til lthe end of the game.
Around four months ago with the Sega 3D Classics version.
No save states, I tried to beat it one sitting. It was lots of fun.
Sonic's 15th. was pretty bad, senpai.
