its been four years since DmC: Devil May Cry released and failed in sales but was a huge hit with journalists and maintains a 10/10 on steam. Most gaming websites still have an active cult like defense force.
My question is why do so many people worship this game to the ends of the earth when it was a failed reboot that the original fandom did not want nor did it perform well enough for it to be continued?

>its been four years since DmC: Devil May Cry
Oh god.

Same reason why Sup Forums praises Titanfall 2 as second Doom or Quake 3. It underperfomed/flopped, while not being as horrible as everyone expected.

>Most gaming websites still have an active cult like defense force.
My question is why do so many people worship this game

Probably cause it wasn't made purely by a japanese dev or made/heavily casualized for the western audience in mind, idk.

They love it because it's full of leftist propaganda. Dante is a special snowflake hipster and the villain is Fox News.

>My question is why do so many people worship this game to the ends of the earth

Every iteration of a franchise is somebody's first. DmC was especially friendly towards newbies.

>four years

>but was a huge hit with journalists and maintains a 10/10 on steam

Oh I see. It's a bait thread.

So why the fuck were all the journalists shilling for it, anyway?

Why do people vehemently defend the most casual friendly, easiest, most simplistic game in the series? Gee, I wonder.

Check Steam page, retard.

Because Americans hate what they don't understand. All they saw were gay anime shit and preferred the rebel teen edgy shit.

Looking back, I have no idea. They may have genuinely thought DmC was that good.

Didn't it have literally Bill Reilly's floating head as a boss?

Because the gameplay is fun and the levels are cool, despite what the DMC shills on here will tell you. /thread

Yup, and it was honestly the best boss fight in the game, though that's not saying much.

It's a "boss" in the sense that's it's the worst type of boss battle- fight minions until his weak point opens, attack the weak point, repeat.

From what I gathered, most people hated it and it was primarily because it hurt their feelings that it was "muh Dante".

brace for "BUT THE GAMEPLAY SUCKED" without any actual evidence how it was drastically different from previous DMC games.

my fave was DMC3 and hated DMC4 for making the series more simplified.

Gameplay lacks depth and levels aren't that amazing.
Also the characters are insufferable.
FUCK YOU

It's a modern classic
The "Fuck You" scene is the plane scene of vidya

But DmC is even simpler

>gameplay lacks depth
So? It's simple and fun.
>levels aren't amazing
The good levels are better than any levels in DMC4
>fuck you
See But all I have to say about the characters is that they're annoying at first but they grow throughout the story until they're likable at the end, but you didn't play the game so you didn't know that.
Dante's hair even turns white

It sucked in everything except gameplay, and people praise game for everything except gameplay - designs, memes, graphics, memes, ost, memes and memes. Bob Barbas fight is one of the best I saw.

>So? It's simple and fun.
The fans of the series didn't like that. People wanted both depth and fun.

>The good levels are better than any levels in DMC4
Platforming IS better in dmc than in than in DMC4, but that doesn't mean much, platforming in 4 sucked ass. For the rest they were quite mediocre.

>they're annoying at first but they grow throughout the story until they're likable at the end, but you didn't play the game so you didn't know that.
They stay annoying throughout the game. Edgy vorgil stays edgy till the end and donte doesn't change in any way MY DICK IS BIGGER

>Dante's hair even turns white
Who gives a shit.

>DMC4 made the series simplified
>DMC4 Dante is still to this day the most complex action game character ever made
>DmC Dante is the most basic since DMC2
Yeah okay, bub. Also it doesn't take a genius to see that the enemies in DmC are fucking idiots with terrible AI that get caught on scenery and other enemies with no interesting attack patterns or design quirks. There is not a single enemy that forces you to change how you approach the situation like the bomb enemies in DMC3 or the shield knights in DMC4. On top of that the boss fights are some of the worst in the series, a series that has traditionally has amazing boss fights, they've got an incredibly limited number of attacks and recycle patterns 3 or 4 times until they die. The game fucking sucks.

>So? It's simple and fun.
It is irritatingly simple. a game build for toddlers. color coded enemy's, everything dealing loads of damage, game saying "yay you did it" with easily handed out triple S ranks.
You would have more fun playing a barney game.
>The good levels are better than any levels in DMC4
The levels are hallways in random parts of the city. It is like DMC2's map layout except each level is a completely different location than the last instead of each screen being that. compared to DMC1 3 and 4 the level design and layout is complete trash.
all I have to say about the characters is that they're annoying at first but they grow throughout the story
>He is annoying unlikable cunt 95% though the story then out of nowhere starts giving a shit about Kat or whoever when his brother leaves her to die. The is mere moments before the mundas and Vergil boss fight. He had no character development, he never changed. Shit was just bad writing.
>Dante's hair even turns white
Which was never the problem to begin with.

Gameplaywise It's the same and easier than Leviathan with a bigger area for you to run around.

FUCKING LEVIATHAN.

>fours years

It feels like so much longer

>It's simple and fun
How about you go tell Soulsborne fan to go play Skyrim or Lord of the Fallen because it's "simple and fun"?
>Likeable at the end
Um, no? I never find Donte really endearing. In fact throughout the game I find him more of a stupid guy for putting other people in danger by killing Mondus and then prevent Vorgil to bring in order

Remember when the game was so shit that tameem shaved his head and changed his name

good times

Remember when Itsuno complain and try to fix Ninja Theory's shit so much that they tattle it to Capcom

Bad times

>My question is why do so many people worship this game to the ends of the earth when it was a failed reboot that the original fandom did not want nor did it perform well enough for it to be continued?

They didn't play the originals or didn't like them so they act like they know that DmC is quality and on the same level as DMC 1, 3, 4 and not baby's first action game lite.

Style over substance

Dance club level was amazing

> Dante's hair even turns white
> uses the same idiotic argument journalists used back then
Ah, so you're actually being ironic here, good.

paid reviews and people falling for it

...

...

I like how people laude the white hair thing as if that was ever the problem. No one actually gives a shit what color Dante's hair is, the real problem was that the new design gave the impression that they didn't know what the fuck they were doing, and spoiler alert they didn't. They didn't understand the material they were working with and if it wasn't for Itsuno and Capcom stepping in and trying to course correct as much as they could, it would have been an even bigger train wreck.

>its been four years since DmC: Devil May Cry released
Christ.

>was a huge hit with journalists and maintains a 10/10 on steam.
Journalists are really fucking bad at games. Any game in which the game does most of the work, while looking flashy, journalists will give a 10/10 in gameplay. Casual players of the genre will also rate it the same, because regular DMC is hard to get into for these kinds of people.

>My question is why do so many people worship this game to the ends of the earth when it was a failed reboot that the original fandom did not want nor did it perform well enough for it to be continued?

You answer this in your own statement. The people who worship this game are not fans of DMC.

the worst thing is they didn't even stick with the original trailer, if they handled their PR better and stuck with incredibly edge and torture and smoking and fuck you and baby tears and vergilosaurus it could've been a legit so stupid it's fun sideproject
but instead it's just bad

The ironic thing is that DMC isn't even hard to get into at all, the inputs are simple enough and it introduces moves at a good enough pace that you can hit the ground running just fine and there's even other modes if you need it to be easier.

Oh man, I wanted Vergilsaurus to be a thing so badly.

...

Its a really good game if you never played the series. I can tell that from the experience. Later when I played DMC3 and 4 yea the combat is not nearly as impressive as in the previous games.

>if they handled their PR better

I don't know how they were able to think that going against the fan of a serie could be a good strategie.

Because of the entitled gamer boogeyman

>Vergilosaurus
I followed the game from its announcement, I remember watching the original "DAMAGED" trailer; but what was Vergilosaurus?

pastebin.com/2FXP4B5t

Yes the games do have easier difficulties, but very little people will actually pick easy because of ego and pride.

DMC also expects more from you than other games. Let's take DMC 3, the first mission is just regular enemies that attack you in a group. These enemies are not nerfed/dumbed down, and can kill you very easily. While on top of that you have the fact that DMC expects you to use more buttons than other more casual games: Triangle for the sword, O for style, X for jump, Square for guns, and R1 for lock on. DMC expects you to use all of it in combat while also having timing based combos, sure you may be able to stinger your way through the first mission, but mission 2 and 3 will fuck you up for spamming stinger. A lot of people don't like to be challenged, so they call it shit and never play the game again. There's no instant gratification in DMC basically, so people just move onto a game that looks flashy at the push of a button.

Shame too, because nothing looks flashier to me, than the DMC 4 webm's people post.

a bit long, but a good read

Man this is goofy to read because it's clearly supposed to be a Plinkett review but it feels chopped up and missing parts.

>very little people will actually pick easy because of ego and pride
That's their problem that has nothing to do with the game.

Call of Duty has you use as many if not more buttons and timing combos isn't actually that necessary until later on. It doesn't really take until Cerberus for you to have to really sit back and look at how you approach the fight, but the previous fights do well in introducing the other concepts fine so that it's a natural step up. Any slight challenge does seem to have people running for the hills nowadays, which is stupid because this kind of thing early on isn't even challenging with some basic recognition and awareness. It's why there's no point catering to people that don't bother trying to put the minimum effort into a game, they will never be happy and the game along with everyone else suffers for it.
