Who do you blame for the video game industry being destroyed in gen7?
Who do you blame for the video game industry being destroyed in gen7?
God and/or yourself.
>stupid meme answer
SJW
>real answer
Let's players and steam users
The people who hail the most expensively produced and biggest budgeted games as the ones most worthy of attention.
The only correct answer.
Everyone.
Why is FPBP every time?
Because of retarded masses who think that the only games worth playing are big budget triple AAA money sinks when in reality the best games were always the middle market, modest budget titles. Now all you have left are indie games which admittedly aren't as interesting as the games that were coming out during the PS2 or SNES eras.
Any idiot that thinks graphics = good game
>Let's players and steam users
What? Why?
>be manager
>need to convince company to fund the game
>other team's manager promised wildly unrealistic sales
>have to promise even higher
>they say sure, but it's so much money to risk
>bunch of people from marketing send notes
>have to work on a new console, devs are surprised, have no clue how its architecture works
>another note, demands HD cutscenes, we dont have the manpower for that
>company rolls in several other studios to work, they absolutely dont get along with the core team
>writers and artists start arguing on how to integrate the product placement in the story
>have to coordinate everyone, takes days to get approvals from the company
>another note, half the game needs to be redone to incorporate the new motion-sensing tech somehow
>deadline is set to the christmas season
>no fucking way they will be done
>have to work full 10 hour shifts, every day, sleep in on the job
>another note, game has to start with day one dlc
>tearing my hair out, know game will absolutely bomb on its own
>game comes out, tons of known shippable bugs, bunch of promised content gone
>had to cut the ending off for a later dlc
>sales start strong, but word of mouth kills the game quickly
>can't make good on the ridiculous budget
>studio closed down
video game industry killed itself.
...
I cry inside literally every day thinking about things like "We'll never see games like [X] again" or "[X company] died because of greater costs...this wasn't worth it."
I want to go back, Sup Forums...
Market forces.
This is Sup Forums fella get your intelligent opinions outta here... lemme help ya a bit
FUCKIN SJWs WITH THEIR JEWISH INFLUENCES KILLED MAH VIDYA!
>He thinks 10 hour shifts require you to sleep at your workplace
You must not live in Murika. Only 16 hour shifts require that.
2 groups:
1. Profit-greedy managers that forgot that you have to make quality media products in order to sustain your company, and,
2. Fucking shitposters not only for wasting their time being immature children on a Mongolian cartoon imageboard and hurting the image of the people that are giving generally valid public constructive criticism BUT ALSO for not directing their anger and criticism in e-mails and communications directly to these idiot companies. Probably even bought the shitty games.
>You didn't call out children with shit taste and mobilefags!
There's nothing to call them out on. Children will always have shit taste in all aspects of life as a function of ignorance and there's no sense in getting mad at the mobile market that MASSIVELY outnumbers us old fogeys when mobile is a perfectly viable and infinitely more convenient platform for our games (if we ever got a good, slim controller with enough buttons and no input lag).
tl;dr - Possibly you, and fuck you for it if so!
I dunno, I don't find mobile that convenient given that when you press on a link you have a 30% chance of going to the link under it or above it rather than the link you wanted.
normies
pretty much
>tfw the PS2 killed a lot of the small yet ambitious developers because it was awkward as piss to develop for yet they thought they would make a return due to it's popularity
Most smartphones zoom in on a particular area if it's hard to make out what you pressed in order for you to make the correct choice.
Marketing overtaking everything
False SJW GG MRA bullshit drummed up by marketers and people with an agenda to push, the Gay agenda and Identity politics.
Costs for everyone involved
Over reliance on online to fix games and make more money for games...but oddly enough online was not ever used well by any console to SELL games.
Westwood and Pandemic are dead. Life is pain.
That's hilariously unrelated to this topic. Perhaps tangentially as a comment on the usability of smartphones.
Either way, tons of people have them with them damn near 24/7 for a million good, helpful reasons, and who could blame them for wanting to game-on-the-go since smartphones are now capable?
My tababooblet doesn't
Someone said "convenient" and I pointed out how they don't seem that convenient to me.
Well, that's not vidya.
Vidya without a controller or KB/M isn't convenient either
I've done twelve hour shifts with a thirty minute commute. The thought of sleeping near or at my store never entered my mind.
Homogenisation and AAA. You have a small set of games getting all the sales with $30+ season passes, DLC and Microtransactions.
Players who would normally buy and support 2-3 games would now spend $100+ on one game to justify the AAA's bloated budgets. Smaller games get lower sales while AAA's up the ante every time which makes it even harder to compete. It's going to consolidate the market into a few big publishers and tiny budget indie games who only need a small number of sales to succeed. Anything inbetween that needs 500k-1 million and can't manage any more sales will it harder and harder to meet those goals as AAA's take more and more of the market to themselves.
But there is a player segment who do not buy AAAs or buy one every few years but mostly focus on "weird Japanese games." If you grasp that segment you can still make some money despite not being AAA because they don't generally want that kind of game.
If people stopped playing bad games then the industry would improve. Also, stop giving bad journalists buzz. Period.
Gamergate would've been succesful in killing a lot of journalists if the message was
>Game designers are fucking journalists for good reviews
and not
>Feminazi cunt cheated on her boyfriend and fucked her way to the top while making shitty estrogen filled games
I mean, don't get me wrong the bottom is as true as the top, but its about marketing your message to outside observers, which the SJWs did much better than the gamers did.
microsoft
>Online Multiplayer
Made it so people didn't have to physically interact with each other and that lead to the creation of a more cancerous player base. That cancerous base wanted easier games that required less skill and fed their ego of being a "badass" with little effort.
Basically, what I'm saying is that more Chads playing the game ruined the games.
Because everyone skips the tread thinking it'll archive soon, then that one user with something awesome to say post the first post and everyone jumps in.
EA. Literally everything wrong with the video game industry was either boosted or directly started by EA.
>be kid
>think video games are cool
>want to make vidya when I grow up
>be adult
>hear about all the crap game devs go through
>specifically long hours and sometines being refused pay
My dream was killed before it started.
Shareholders and quarterly financial reports.
Privately owned game publishers/studios producing games at their own pace and according to their own vision and sensibilities seem very rare these days, and as such we get derivative over-hyped mass-marketed stale as sin gloated mess of "AAA" games instead, whose design paradigms have been established by vague focus groups, whose budgets are being green-light by people not involved in the day-to-day act of creating a game, and whose development is undertaken by teams of hundreds of overworked people with stunted creative potential as a consequence of being such a small cog in such a large, soulless organization.
The Memes
>tfw it looked like EA was starting to die off a few years ago
Damn
