I think that was the third time he'd died? The second time was when he fell off a tree branch while sniping for them. Which, again, was entirely their fault doing dumb shit that got him killed. And they weren't much better then, they got their companion killed, barely bat an eye. He comes back, then the next time he dies they throw his corpse on a pile and drag him across a battlefield.

It's not until the Hydra that Darkness starts actually treating him with a slight bit of respect, which is crazy to me. He's not that bad to them, he does a lot for them, he's made his entire build around compensating for their idiocy. He's massively behind in levels and they all make fun of him for it... And then when he finally has a chance to get some levels... Megumin's little sister steals the kill and I put the book down for the rest of the day.

That's 100% a retcon and not in the source material at all. Changing things later to tone down how much of a bitch Megumin is just feels pathetic when you do it after she becomes one of the most popular characters.
