How do I become a gaming Youtuber?

How do I become a gaming Youtuber?

Do I just not have enough videos, or am I focusing on making the wrong type of content?

Make more funny content and less serious stuff. The stories are cool, but you need to break it up a bit.

I mean, I think the stories work well when people really care about you and your content.

Until then, I would say it doesn't work because no one is curious as to what you have to say yet, you have to build a following that cares about you with other types of content first.

At least, I would think, I don't do youtube, too stressful.

I wanted to have the stories up before I got popular so people could always just find them if they were actually curious.

I want to do funny video editing and top five videos with random days of creepypasta readings and storytelling thrown in, but to begin with I wanted to put a lot of myself out there before I got popular. Kind of a "Here I am" thing.

Eh, why throw them up now if/when you get a larger following you'll just lose out on ad revenue and views altogether because there will be many users who don't surface around for "old" videos, only real fans.

I do understand the "Here I am" thing, but I've always liked when I subscribe to a channel for their content, then they get a lot of supposed comments asking about their life and stuff, THEN they make those kind of videos (I have youtube comments disabled so I never see this process occurring specifically, but it seemingly happens frequently.)

I do get the idea though, I can't really say but just keep grinding it at, all it takes is 1 video to really get things going from the looks of it.

Then I'd say you're doing alright. Top five videos get crazy amounts of views and that's even better if you're funny.

You only have five videos up right now. You're still in the super early stages of channel growth.

Your voice is perfect for youtube, though. You have a few deep tones for story telling, but you can scream and give a strong reaction as well.

...

I see your point, but I kind of like the idea of having hard core fans be able to get to know me by going back to my early videos.

Sure, I'd miss out on ad revenue, but if I get to the point of having fans looking through all of my videos, that really wouldn't matter to me.

Yeah, it's just a tactile thought, not necessarily a humanistic one.

It's content creation, it's supposed to be fun and exciting for you, make what you wanna make and have fun making it, the rest will come naturally.

Being a successful youtuber is mostly luck and even then to actually make any kind of decent income off of it you literally need to be approaching 1 million subs. This is why so many youtubers are transitioning to twitch and becoming streamers; they only need to stream to 500 odd people and be able to build a solid core of loyal subscribers and they can make more money for less effort.

You're probably right.

Like this guy said:
Maybe I just don't have enough content up.

I'd actually argue Twitch is way more effort.

If I'm making a video, I can record maybe an hour of gameplay, pop it into sony vegas, and then just overlay some commentary.

If I streamed to Twitch, I'd be sitting for eight hours trying to be entertaining at all times and avoiding dead air.

I actually did stream to twitch before I started Youtube, and I got WAY less attention than I'm getting now.

The video of your livestream being interrupted by a bug is fucking funny.

Why don't you try being active on Twitter and Reddit? Social media goes crazy for quick content like that.

start by making short, meme videos. you wanna keep the punchline quick and to-the-point. experiment with light edits, varied music choices as well as possible IRL recordings.

here's one i prepared earlier. i am also a beginner. we will both make it some day! youtube.com/watch?v=rsvU6ibmqKc

I post every video I make on /r/videos and then again onto whatever subreddit it's most popular on.

I've tended to stay away from both Twitter and Facebook. Maybe it's time?

That's fucking funny.

I'll help and post it to the Overwatch subreddit.

You seem to really like WoW. Why don't you make a guild? There's a community right there just waiting to form.

I agree that Twitch is more work, but it would be a good idea to stream on the weekends on something. That'd give you a lot of exposure.

Make sure you have a link to your Youtube channel.

>it would be a good idea to stream on the weekends

Would it be better to do this through Youtube's livestreaming service?

You want to be a gaming youtuber but then you';re talking about creepy pasta and storytelling.

Focus on playing games. A shitload of games. Find weird shit, and keep doing it until something funny or entertaining happens.
You think people will want to see you just playing a game? With Multiplayer sure, if you're bad/good enough. but in general stuff like single player playthroughs you have to have a really bright and distinct personality or have some really funny shit going down.

Focus on the games user, get some good content up. But don't obsess over it.
Play games until something good happens. Do you play online with friends? Some times friends + online games creates funny banter and hilarious shit too.

I guess I really just want to make a variety of videos.

I'd love to be able to make top five videos like Trend Crave, but I also like stuff that Night Mind and Corpse Husband does.

Gaming is the larger focus, but I kinda want to make a bunch of stuff.

Trend crave is a pretty cool guy, but his video style wouldn't work on a variety channel.

People know to go to him for a daily "Look at this outrageous shit" video. That's why he's popular.

>Consistency
>Upload regularly
>Record regularly
>Play games you like
>Don't try to be funny if you're not funny naturally
>Practice your commentary
>Don't go in it to make money but to have fun and enjoy yourself
>Money may come later but it is not guaranteed

That's the advice I can give you.

There are google groups you can join that will give you views and help you out.

Don't do it alone.

Is it possible to have a gaming related channel without posting actual gameplay?

You get views by getting retweeted by famous internet personalities or by getting lucky on reddit. Your content does not matter as long as it meets the bare minimum amount of entertainment required and is seen by as many people as possible. Do not try to succeed by hoping you will be discovered and go viral. You might as well be trying to win the lottery. Your game plan is to permeate yourself to such an extent that people will hear about you whether they are looking for your content or not.

It would be a shitty idea to do something like that. A $500 PC that you get at Best Buy plus a compatible GPU within the $50-$150 range is more than enough to get started, though if you want to cover the top tier AAA games you might want to invest more. Probably helps to get a refurbished PC as with that you can get higher grade tech for cheaper, and for that you might want Walmart or Newegg. You can use OBS Studio to record and Shotcut to edit, and then a $15 mic plus $15 headphones would be enough to get started. Consoles will need a capture card, or you could get into emulation if you're more of a retro console player or someone who covers romhacks. Outside of that, as long as you make the videos you want to make you can pretty much do whatever, provided it doesn't violate Youtube's TOS. Vid.me is also a viable option if you don't want to deal with Youtube as they make it easier for smaller channels to get a following and profit there. Not much else to say.

I BOUGHT SONY VEGAS AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE IT
FUCK

It's easy. I learned how to use it at an amature level through youtube tutorials.
