Looking back
Was it really THAT bad?
Looking back
not at all
>the game
no
>the shit posting
yes
Was great when it first released, lots of funny fucks churning out goofy content like shitty sans and gook frisk, cute ass Chara art, hell even had people making custom boss battles that never saw the light of day (Burnt Papyrus comes to mind immediately)
It went wrong in a hurry though.
OH YES~
>bad
I don't know, user. I'm just a guy that plays and enjoys games, not an autist that clinges on every fandom's back like a leech and criticizes their ways only to feel like a superior unique snowflake, which is what most posters here do.
It was never bad, hell, if it'd been a hidden gem Sup Forums would be going nuts over the game. Just goes to show you that the playerbase can skew your perception of a game.
The game itself was okay, if a little heavy-handed at times.
The fanbase is the real problem. A lot of them are bleed-overs from the Homestuck fanbase, which should explain a lot.
Sup Forums literally circlejerked from this game (and not just the furshit) before it got popular
It's an alright game and fantastic experience with a horrible fanbase and even worse shitposters.
Sup Forums loved the demo, Neo Sup Forums had a hissy fit to try and be contrarian about it.
>muh community
We're talking about the game itself you fucktards.
post catty someone JUST FUCKING POST SOME
Its so fucking overrated. Probably the most overrated game in existence. I cant comprehend how it suddenly exploded so much. Toby Fox mustve sold his soul to the devil or something
its a solid indie rpg with decent combat and some mostly clever dialogue/plot. Not for everyone.
there's worse games, and there's better games
No but the fans are awful. I know that's become a pretty common statement around here but it's true.
>Sup Forums loved the demo, Neo Sup Forums had a hissy fit to try and be contrarian about it.
>Sup Forums loved the demo that had no signs of the terrible writing, shitty characters, terrible art in later stages of the game or half assed grind combat later to come
Gee i wonder why
Yep, it was pretty damn good. The only part i disagree is calling it a "game" to begin with. It plays and feel a lot more like some sort of interactive story-telling device than an actual videogame. But then again, so is heavy rain, so i guess that's up for interpretation.
Bottomline it's good, but only for players who really know what they are getting themselves into. Start Undertale expecting a game and you will be put off by gimmicky and repititive play and barely consequential choices. Start Undertale expecting an experience and boy you are in for a ride. That is, considering you can endure the slog that is the first part. No wonder so many gamers were put off by this.
It's an ok game with a lot of reaction to player decisions and the gameplay stays fresh through constant introduction of new gimmicks and mixing them together, along with pacifist options essentially turning each monster into a puzzle that you solve. The soundtrack is objectively great.
The story is a bit on the convoluted side and while I enjoyed them the characters and humour are by far the most subjective part of the game and if they don't appeal to someone then they won't enjoy it at all.
It's not the best game ever but it's also certainly not nearly as bad as it was made out to be in the backlash following the first few weeks of fairly civil discussion, which is something that Toby expected to happen.
>terrible art in later stages of the game
Should've quit while you were ahead. Each new area of the game looked significantly better than the last.
>tfw avoided it completely when Sup Forums was talking about its kickstarter because i thought it was some dumb furshit game
you cant deny Sup Forums was probably the original fan base for undertale
It was ok
If you go into it without getting spoiled you'll find some cool twists here and there, and the OST is good. It could've used harder bullet patterns, or maybe sparing enemies should've been harder. The art is all over the place, ranging from great to MS Paint tier. I'd give it a 6.5/10, it's ok.
It's never bad. The game is the best. We voted it as the best game ever many places and we won. End of story, unless you want to actually talk about the game.
/thread
Here comes the fanbase. Abort thread, everyone!
It's an excellent game and will go down as a classic. It's even more impressive when you remember it was developed by a single guy in his early 20's
