Good riddance

Get out, norman.

CRTs are only good for games designed around them. Wanting them to return now is a little silly.

This.

For a retro 240p game using sprites: CRT > LCD
For a modern 3D game running in 2k @ 144hz: LCD > CRT

Name 10 (ten) games released in the last 3 years that can be played at 2K144Hz.

just go to a Melee tournament. Melee players are super autismal about "muh lag" and refuse to play on anything other than a CRT, so the tournaments are like CRT heaven.

unless you live in the 3rd world I guarantee you can find one nearby you

>>CRTs will never be the primary TV used for vidya and everything else

Good, they were bulky, heavy, power-hungry, highly susceptible to glare, and literal dust magnets and probably some other stuff I can't remember about them

Thank fuck.

Those things were so awkward to move or carry.

I do not fucking miss carrying these dinosaurs up and down the stairs

>get plasma and enjoy almost everything

unless you live in the 3rd world

Isn't it the other way around?

Burn in

There's a real reason for it though, LCD are known for having shitty analog converters with up to 1-2 seconds lag on composite or s-video.

You have to go back.

...

>namefag telling anyone to go back
wew

...

I want the batman one

...

...

That's what CRT shaders are for user

...

...

...

...

Aren't games like Parappa the rapper pretty much unplayable on HDTV's?

CRT had less input lag and that game was strict as fuck.

Muh dick, every time.

...

> grew up with a shit CRT that had a black bar across the top of the screen, that sloooooowly went away as it was kept on
>bar instantly reappeared if you turned it off
>channel scroll buttons were fucked; if you pressed scroll down, it instantly lept to channel 2. Missed you channel while scrolling up? Fuck you, back to 2.
>dad lost the remote, so that wasn't an option.

Having HUDs blocked was sooooo much fun. I was so happy the day we trashed it.

The PS2/GC/Xbox era was especially weird.

You had component cables available for every console so they were "playable" on new televisions but it wasn't always an improvement necessarily. And the upscalers on those early 1080p HDTV's were god awful.

Can someone explain why the fags on this board are obsessed with CRTS? I thought modern monitors were just superior in every single way.

Is this not true?

Gotta take what you can get man poverty gaming was hard times.

Punch Out on the classic nes mini is unbeatable on modern tvs.

>better contrast
>less lag
>non native resolution so 240p and 480i games won't look like ass

PRESENT DAY
PRESENT TIME
HAHAHAHAH

youtu.be/fH1ZH71P_fE

I want this so badly. PS1 into a crt via scart is the pinnacle of video games for me.

MAXIMUM COMFY ACHIEVED

CRT advantages

Cheap
True Black Levels
Last much longer than modern displays
Zero Input lag
Make old games look nice
Produced for decades, so there's many varieties to choose from
You get massive gains from lifting them
Make a cool degaussing noise when turned on
Physical/mechanical buttons that make click noises when pressed

In short, CRTs are neat.

Sup Forums is filled witch sm4sh fags

Please, no Lainposting.

>>non native resolution so 240p and 480i games won't look like ass
This.
NES/SNES games running at 256x224, or arcade games running at 384x224 look like garbage on an LCD.

It looks like shit on a CRT that big and sharp. You're probably even using an RGB connection.
There's no point in even using a CRT if you're going to do that.
You're supposed to be using a cheap little 12-inch screen at most with a composite connection or s-video at the worst.

>He bought into the Liquid Crystal Jew

Terrible, just TERRIBLE quality control.

It's the other way around. Only today, with over 20 years of R&D, are LCDs starting to even APPROACH CRTs. CRTs are still objectively better for basically everything, and had research not just utterly died the second LCDs became affordable, we'd all be gaming on monitors today that are not only easily capable of 8k, but can be scaled down to a more standard resolution without looking like shit.

It's the same story with plasma. I've got a late-end plasma because samsung stopped making them only last year, and it completely destroys any LCD.

Why did LCD win if it's so shit? Why did the consumers all jump to the inferior product?

>You're probably even using an RGB connection.

That's clearly not RGB. I don't blame you, it's not like most people can spot the difference.

Make me fag

Lighter so they're cheaper to ship, & slightly cheaper to produce parts. See VHS vs. Betamax. Here friend, arm yourself with Knowledge.

youtube.com/watch?v=ddYZITaxlTQ

For one, image burn. I remember my parents looking through magazines in 2007 to decide what flatscreen to buy and all of them said LCD because of image burn. Both technologies had it bad but plasma had it a bit worse.

It's funny because by 2009 image burn wasn't really an issue anymore, but the damage had been done. I'm not letting go of my plasma or my CRT until modern screens can match their colour depth.

It's less hassle.

Because it was insanely cheaper. Not for consumers, who paid stupid money.

But for production and shipping. In a shipping container, you can fit about 5 times more screens if they're LCD, at a much lower weight, and a much wider diagonal size. Plebs wanted big screens for their homes, and plasma was too expensive, being very high quality in terms of production.

What LCDs did is cut out the entire low to mid end range of the market, and then they cannibalised the high end too.

Holy shit, nigga. You got BTFO.

And it seems you know shit about competitive melee retard

Stupid hipster enjoy your future back pain

Most people aren't like Sup Forums who pretends that graphics matter, they just saw a new tv that was cheaper, bigger and lighter

CRTs are great and all but jesus christ they take up so much space

>ask question
>get answers
I don't think you know what BTFO means

Would OLED screens with component/composite inputs and proper integer upscaling make a good replacement for CRTs?

Yeah, fuck Refrigerators. I move my fridge from one side of the house to the other DAILY, & frankly, it's getting a little ridiculous.

I was asking a question about something I didn't understand, and then posters were kind of enough to provide me with legitimate answers. Not sure you know what BTFO means, maybe lurk more if you're new.

How often do you move your goddamn tv?

The blue in them burns out fairly quickly, so no. A CRT would outlast an OLED. Quite a few were used as security monitors as an example. You would never use an OLED as a security camera screen.

Not with all that input delay that's inherent to digital scaling.

LCDs will eventually get close, but they'll never actually replace CRTs. It's an analog format.

It seemed less like a question and more like a hurr CRTs are old and gay.

>Videogames will never be analog again

I just wish proper scalers weren't so fucking expensive. This is really getting out of hand. No wonder people would just rather get a cheap CRT.

Jesus christ you're retarded

Just emulate, you dumb nigger. You're practically cycle-accurate up until the N64 (where all the games run like shit on the actual console anyway) and PS2, and everything after that is digital garbage.

Even PVM prices are starting to get stupid now people are realising they're retro gold.

>Even PVM prices are starting to get stupid

They're just going back to what they use to be. They weren't exactly cheap back in the 90s either.

Moeka has the best tits

There are thousands of them littering landfills all over the place. Glad I got mine delivered for 50 bucks before this shit, feels good to have ex-medical grade hardware for next to nothing.

>There are thousands of them littering landfills all over the place.

And you wonder why they're rare & expensive now? Supply & demand.

I use my old crt to play games 360 downward in my garage, pretty comfy familia

This.

I'm not cursed with a pair of nostalgia goggles superglued to my face. I fucking love me some old games but I also fucking love me some new games too. Hi-def monitors and TVs are great. Playing older games on them look a little strange but nothing that entirely ruins the older games.

>Here's your TV bro

Hi your image was rotated a bit so I tried to fix it, sorry i did my best

Any PC game

i do something similar in my basement

I still use a CRT for everything. Even 360/PS3 games, which weren't meant to be played on a CRT really so all the text is tiny and unreadable.
My PS4 requires a converter which defeats the purpose (input lag) but I've got no HDMI display so I don't have a choice.

Ah, the good ol' days.

>go to a Melee tournament
Fuck that. I don't even want to stand downwind of a Melee tournament.

lmao

What's the purpose of that empty Nendoroid stand though.

Where can i buy a CRT these days? Does Goodwill still have them?

Preferably somewhere other than craigslist.

>CRTs will never be the primary TV used for vidya and everything else
I don't even understand the nostalgia here - they're massive fat blocks that use power like a motherfucker

Most resale stores have stopped carrying them. Your best bet is Craigslist.

>having Pooh stare at you while you use your tv

Oh bother

how could both of you miss his point so spectacularly?

>no comment backlinks
Jesus christ how long ago was this?

>tfw find CRTTVs on the side of the street often
>tfw have 5 CRT's I've never had to pay for
>tfw they all work properly
Every time it's after Christmas you can find people throw all of their old TV's on the side of the street

>get a CRT
>cant read a shit
wow crt are awesome

>Posts quite literally have the date and time on them

CRTs hurt my eyes like fuck. I can feel my eyes crawling forward after gaming in front of one. I don't know what this medical condition is, but I have to close my eyes and push them back with my palm after a while.

CRT displays range from good to bad, & if you have either a bad connection or a shitty TV, you won't get a good image.

Wait, wasn't comment backlinking introduced in 2010?

>don't know what this medical condition is

Autism.

you are new as fuck if you weren't on Sup Forums before features like that were added

Play Melee.

It's better than any game released before or after it anyways, you don't really need anything else.
