300 would significantly lower the sales for the psychological effect on its own just like 199 would make sales astronomical. There isn't really much of a difference between 199 and 299 but that's not what people will consider when making a snap judgement. At 299 Nintendo fans buy it; at 199 nintendo fans are joined by a large number of vidya fans of all stripes (even Sony ponies) as a cheap supplemental system as well as a large amount of the casual audience in there late 20s/early 30s who don't really care about video games but have fond memories growing up in the golden age of Nintendo.
