So I'm not worried it's getting cancelled.

I am worried we will get it after the console versions. NieR is very story heavy and I believe Automata will be similar, when it hits North America at least in March on the Playstation 4, I worry Sup Forums will be filled with spoilers and I'll have the whole game ruined for me before I have a chance to play it.

Why is Square so hesitant to reveal the PC version's release date? Why release it later than console versions at all? If they use Denuvo "piracy" isn't a reason because it doesn't get cracked until months after release anyway. I feel like I'm going to miss out on the main draw of the game (the story) and it just isn't fair bros.

Ever since Rockstar got people to double/triple dip with GTA, some people have seen it as an opportunity to cash in on porting games to PC after consoles. Sure it's pretty fucked up to make PC players wait but they feel they'll profit more this way. Just stay away from anything remotely discussing the game and you should be fine.

After putting up with delayed PC ports after 6 years, I've learned to deal with spoilers. What matters to me is how the gameplay holds up.

Also, February is next week. It's obvious we're getting shafted out of a march release. What else do you expect from Square Enix? At least folks at Bandai know how to make reasonable releases. Especially given how DS3 and Xenoverse had worldwide releade on all platforms on the same day.

Nier was not and is not a mainstream game, cult hits have a normal fandom that use spoiler tags, Automata has a fandom that just keeps yelling everything at the top of their lungs now because they are too horny to care/platinum fans who just like to yell things by default.

Let's see, Bioshock Infinite, Mass Effect 3, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, FFXV, and so on. You literally cannot avoid spoilers because shit like endings are spammed here to attract shitposts.

Basically what the other user said, it's not really comparable. NieR was a cult classic and Drakengard was one too, the fanbase was very small so that sort of thing was far less likely to happen. I played NieR in 2013 after browsing Sup Forums a lot and seeing it mentioned a ton, but the only thing I knew about it was it was related to Drakengard in some way, had feels, and had a great OST. Even years after the fact no one posted blatant spoilers in the OP.

Automata is hyped by everyone with a PS4 and a lot of PC owners as well, there's no way it will simply be popular among the original fanbase, because Square is marketing it more and it seems to have pretty decent gameplay when no Taro game has ever had that before.

And this is why you but a Playstation to play japanese games.

Even when 1/10th of the games get ported to PC you usually still miss out on betas and get late release dates (even when supposedly it's a "simultaneous" release like this one - no one is giving details or confirming anything about PC's release)

I actually had the choice between a PS4 and building a PC. I was going to buy a PS4, but since all of the niche titles were getting PC ports, Sup Forums told me getting a PC was the best/only real option, and NieR Automata was confirmed for PC (this was one of the biggest factors as it was the only reason I needed a PS4 specifically to begin with) I went with that. I didn't take waiting into account at all.

"Early" 2017, even assuming no delays and it fits that, could still be weeks or months after the PS4 version.

Especially concerning is it doesn't even have a Steam page yet. MvCI has a "late 2017" release date and even it has a page.

There's more to a story besides the final twist or ending, you know. I had the endings to Witch & The Hundred Knight spoiled for me, still immensely enjoyed the game for its story. Same goes for Ni No Kuni. Sure the story builds up to the ending, but if you can't enjoy a story for the steps that lead up it then maybe it isn't that good.

Having no Steam page is really strange. Also, pre-ordering the PC version from the Squeenix site apparently requires you to go through customer service, as the pre-order option doesn't actually work. PC gets ignored so much it's almost funny.

I think it'll be 75-80. I have concerns on Taro's storytelling after DoD3. I also hope the "humor" doesn't come back.

For me, the ending itself bears little weight. What matters more to me is the journey and how everything led to that.

Rise of the Tomb Raider, another Square Enix game. It got slaugtered by Fallout 4 on November and it was supposed to release the PC version on late March, but sold so bad on Xbox, they adjusted the date to January. The decision was so hasty, there wasnt even a PC trailer for the game.

I finally got around to downloading the demo earlier. It's pretty fun, but the enemies feel kinda lackluster. They're basically just punching bag that die really quickly and spam giant orbs. It's hard to style on them when they don't really put up a fight.

Also, the weapons you're given in the demo feel a bit limited.

read up on delayed PC port sales. A lot of customers own both a PC and a gaming device and many of them are consumer whores in a bad way. If say GTA5 launches on PS4 and 6+ months later drops on PC they can project close to half of the system buyers also buy the PC version when it drops, this does not work on the flip having PC first then console for obvious reasons.

You can check out every last bit of information and it'll spoil nothing.

The delay also helps the black eye that happens when big games launch side by side and the PC port isn't optimized right (Arkham Knight, Dishonored 2) thus leaving a black eye where as that extra time to fine tune the port leads to both fewer issues and a less judgemental buyer base.

Pretty much. The trailers are also gameplay focused. There isn't any "story" trailer, but there is a character intro trailer which just shows all (apart from one) the characters.

Being poor makes PC with piracy by far the most attractive choice. Not to mention it took years for online console services to come here and generally they are still too expensive.

Well I'm going to be buying the PC version for the higher graphical fidelity and frame rate. I don't put much importance to mod potential.

In Asia here at least, consoles are actually seen as only a privilege of the rich. PC was the everyman's platform, as every house had one. Nobody would want to buy a gaming console, whereas with a pc, you could use it for work or entertainment.

The biggest factor though is that 80% of gamers simply play on net cafes with their friends, that really killed the appeal of consoles here.
