'just' decisions as possible the whole way through.

Regardless, what an exquisite game. Definitely the best I've ever played. The way it transports you to its world and sucks you in, goddamn. It'll be difficult to forget this experience.

Are the expansions worth dipping into now I've finished the main story? Or will it just prolong my emotional suffering after my tragic ending?

I only chucked my log up Yen and Kiera, and ending up completing Yens love arc. This was annoying because Triss's titties looked divine at the party, but I still withheld my boner.

I pleaded with her to not enter the White Frost instead of forbidding her.

The only negative thing I can fathom I did was let off the Witcher who slaughtered the village. But that was a shitty sidequest, not a story arc. Surely that has no effect?

I made a few wrong choices too but the game really hammers home that it wants you to let ciri do what she wants. You should have just picked the good luck option when she decided to enter the white frost.

The bad ending is by far the best one though. Both of the other ones just seem rushed as fuck, same as the complete second half of the game.

My only problem with this game was the ending system.

I know they did it to make multiple playthroughs worth it but in the end it just made me follow guides to get the good ending. I'm not someone who will play a game more than once.

I still feel like that's not enough to warrant the ending I recieved. I pretty much defended her right to choose the whole way through, with the lodge, Avalla'ch, everything. I felt the 'Please don't do this' option regarding the White Frost would be the most appropriate from Geralts position. He's spent nearly a year finding her and defending her in any way he can, he wouldn't be completely cool headed by the prospect of her sacrifice.

There are five specific choices that you make to determine the ending and you need at least three for the good. Googling the guide to the ending gives you everything you need to know

The point was you were to let Ciri make her own decisions and be her own person.

to be fair, the snowball fight kind of comes out of nowhere from a dialogue choice that says "*cheer her up*"

IIRC, the choice was to be serious with her and give a meaningful speech about death, or to ignore it and have a snowball fight

You have to support your daughter but also make sure she learns how to live on her own because at some point you can no longer be there for her.

Well to be honest at that point Vesemir had died, I think talking about death was the last thing she needed.

Being protective is fine, being OVERprotective is bad.

So here are the criteria for getting the bad ending, and like you say, you need to do three of these:

I mean she's OP as fuck already, and pretty much a demigod by the final scene, so why does this hinder her in a negative way? Letting her relax doesn't equate to encouraging her to forget her responsibilities.

It's absolutely useless against the few bosses in the game but crazy OP against everything else. They've also nerfed signs over the patches, you can't do pic-related anymore.

To make a sign build, get all the griffon gear. Get the griffon school techniques. Pick and choose like 9~10 blue talents from the first two rows of the sign page, doesn't matter if you just got 1 point in them, you are using them more for the mutagen bonus. Pick up the "Synergy" alchemy talent that boosts mutagen. You'll have like 300++% sign intensity with all of that.

>visit skjall grave
>let ciri talk to lodge alone

If you did visit emhyr then there will be one more choice (take or refuse gold), making it so you need 3/5 good choices (refusing gold is the correct choice)
if you visit emhyr, get 3/5 good choices, and have nilfgaard win the war then you get empress ending
getting 2/4 good choices, or 3/5 without nilfgaard winning the war will give you witcheress ending

bad ending 1st playthrough detected
Visiting Skjall's grave is literally a giveaway, then you have three (3) other chances. Unless you fuck up all 3 you would get the good ending.

I was trolling, I made father-like responsible decisions at first, but after I saw that the game was reacting like I did the wrong thing I reloaded the checkpoint and let her do every stupid thing she wanted, and got the best ending.
Considering how important it's the writing in this game, I was surprised to see they did something so superficial to affect an extremely important thing like the ending. I bet plenty of players got a shitty ending just for having cared about Ciri's safety

I agree. I got the witcher ending and I honestly thought it sucked. The choices are super vague. I guess what the developers were trying to imply was even if life is hard and you have a lot of responsibilities. You have to try to enjoy the small thing (happy times) or you will stop even seeing the point on pushing forward.

Trashing the lab is probably the most important choice in the game.

It's actually pretty fun to see them knock shit over and draw mustaches on the portraits.

The general trend of getting one of the good endings is that you need to let Ciri stand on her own two feet and make her own decisions. If you coddle her, then she doesn't have enough confidence in herself at the end without Geralt and dies.

That feel when you just played through W3 and Hearts of Stone and are doing Blood and Wine for the first time and got Ciri is a Witcher ending. Also, beat Gaunter O'dimm at his own game (like it was even hard to do that)

Man, every character IN Kaer Morhen mentions how it was already fucked up and all the shit needed to fix it. Kaer Morhen has been a glorified pile of rubble before Witcher 1 even began, Vesemir is the only thing keeping people there.

As for Avallac'h's lab, fuck that dude, I thought he was with the Wild Hunt the whole time so I couldn't give less of a shit what he said. The whole game after finding Ciri,was preparing Ciri for when I wouldn't be there to protect her, and lo and behold, it paid off because I got the best ending and Ciri got what she wanted all along. First playthrough too.

Whether his mistakes justify an eternity of punishment is up to interpretation, but it speaks to the quality of the writing when people can discuss what he deserves.

Who cares if KM was already fucked up? Ciri obviously had no control over her power in an expansive, spacious stronghold, let alone in an isolated underground cavern. She hadn't undergone any special training from then until the labarotary to control her gift. The game made no distinction between "messing up the lab" and "letting her go apeshit on it." In fact, it was reasonable to think the latter as Ciri was highly charged and emotional at that point.

My reasoning was that I didn't want to create internal strife within the party before the ending, or do something petty to the lab because of some bitch elf (who could just be jealous,) giving Ciri shit. If he was to really lead by example, Geralt would show Ciri that there are more important things to worry about, and encourage her to hold back.

Surely showing some restraint and wisdom would inspire Ciri to be a pro witcher and not run off to fuck herself up with the White Frost? I wasn't an asshole to her, I stole the horses for her friends, I helped her sort the grave out. So why was I penalised for it? It makes little sense, and feels like an oversight. It's unfortunate because the writing over the rest of the game was masterful. It's almost as if the script had an SJW filter where it'd say - "You didn't let Ciri do whatever the fuck she wanted?! REEEEEEEEEEEE!'

To be honest it's dissapointed me more than ME3's ending did.
