Either Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World
very obviously this, so there is no potential for discussion other than to compare the two,
Super Mario World
This. I also really enjoyed six golden coins
If that's not a Goomba then what the fuck is it
no shit its between those 2. but which is better?
A Galoomba, I think
Galoomba. They were also in Super Mario 3D World
Neither is absolutely best than the other.
There are tradeoffs, but in the end they are equally masterpieces
3 had more variation and imaginative mechanics. Also it was more challenging than World.
I vote SMB 3. Though, most of the time I play World if I want to play a SMB game for an evening.
there is no way to say which is objectively "better".
you may say world has more advanced mechanics but the main game does not utilize it as much as it could. for me the biggest problem of world is that it doesn't challenge player as much as 3.
i like 3 more because it is harder.
for me
3 > world > 2 jap > 2 usa > 1 > new > new wii
(smbn games doen't offer anything that the older games doesn't offer. at least smb1 is challenging.)
64 > Galaxy 2 > Sunshine > Galaxy >>>>>>> 3d world
Oh man 6 golden coins was the shit
Lost Levels has better level design than both
variation =/= good. SMB3 was filled with superflous shit that distract from the main mechanics and it makes for a worse game overall
This. But I think it's safe to say super Mario world wins it by a mile.
I agree it was good but game boy Mario's could never hold a candle to the console counter parts.
How do the GBA remakes stack up to the originals?
SMB2, SMW, Yoshi's Island, SMB3 vs their remakes, what do you think?
SMB2/SMB3 play great. I don't much care for yoshi's island and SMW feels awkward on the gba dpad (not that it's a bad dpad, just not as smooth as a SNES one). The biggest issue for me is the music changes.
3
Yoshi's Island on GBA is shit. For some reason it's the only version on the virtual console.
Caped Mario > Raccoon Mario + Meme costumes
NSMBU

not even a (You)
There's no ice level. It's an underground level with icy surfaces. Hardly an ice level.
More doesn't always mean better. World's basic gameplay is much tighter, and the game overall is more focused.
>World's basic gameplay is much tighter, and the game overall is more focused.
>Most of the levels are run to the right and can easily be skipped by using the cape
Compared to other Mario games, Super Mario World was essentially rushed out of the gate to be done in time for the SNES launch.
It's a great game, but with more dev time, it could have been an even larger, more robust and cohesive experience like SMB3.
It's too bad there was never a proper SMW2 released at the tale end of the the SNES's lifespan with lots of dev time to realize all the ideas that the Super Mario World put forth, a la what SMB3 with the original SMB. Yoshi's Island meets some of this criteria but it's not really a Mario game.
What about goombettes?

>no shit its between those 2
It really isn't. 3 is so far ahead of World that it isn't even a competition. 2U, 2J, and 1 are all better than World. Hell, even Land 1 and 2 are better than World.
Fucking GaijinGoomba....
That game is probably my favorite 2D Mario game mainly because of how different it was from all the others. It was open-ended, where you could choose which world to go to. There were unique powers and enemies not seen in any other game. It was overall a fantastic experience that I love to play even today. It's gotta be the best Gameboy game.
>world doesn't have sky levels
>world doesn't have mountain levels
If Super Mario Bros 3 had a big overworld that you can backtrack to the previous WORLDs like SMW did then it would be superior.
SMB3 has a lot of character, but not being able to replay levels or revisit whole worlds after beating them is a serious weakness
It has better level design for sure, but the controls are still the fairly lacking original mario controls. SMB3 edges it out just a bit because of that. The later mario games just feel better to play.
Lost Levels has some of the worst level design in the series, comparable to SMB2 USA.
I read somewhere you can replay Worlds in Super Mario Advance 4 (Super Mario 3).
How does that work?
You beat the game and then you can replay any level you want.
This.
I get that they wanted to add replayability with that feature, but it still would have been better to just let you replay them all from the get-go.
I don't get when someone says this. NSMB has everything these games have, except for the game breaking flight power ups. For gameplay, NSMB is better. SMW only looks better for having a gorgeous pixel graphics.
There are also unique koopa troopa shells that grant powerups when yoshi is holding them. You didn't include lava, cave, yoshi, switch stages for smw. Your infographic is lopsided.
When it comes to two great things why does it always matter which one is "better" than the other?
>If Super Mario Bros 3 had a big overworld that you can backtrack to the previous WORLDs like SMW did then it would be superior.
The fact that SMB3 doesn't have that is what makes it superior. SMB3 doesn't allow you to cheese it as easily as World does. You can't revisit levels just to get power-ups or lives.
It's not a weakness, it's a strength.
mario bros classic
super is for suckers
The physics in the NSMB games are a lot more floaty, NSMBU is a lot better in that regard compared to the previous ones but it's still not the same.
Super Paper Mario
A "Kuribon". The first time they were given an original name in a localization was in Super Mario 3D World's English version. They called them "Galoombas" there.
But even in Super Mario World, they weren't called the same thing as regular, classic Goombas.
The original Gooma enemy/species is called "Kuribo" in Japan. The ones from Super Mario World were called "Kuribon", even back then in 1991.
I miss these kinds of gifs. Fuckin classics.
Consumerism. That's why there are people who says shit like "objectively best" product, etc. It makes them feel better for consuming better product.
add all the yoshi colors for smw and the special worlds
Whatever it is I like them better
Just jumping on goombas once to kill them is boring
>all the Yoshi colors
That's just blatant padding since green Yoshi does everything depending on the shell.
I remember when I had some mario paraphernalia when I was younger, it said right was a goomba and left were mini goombas, I didn't fucking get it at all since they were bigger.
Mario 3, only slightly above Mario World.
Beating the original NES version of SMB3 let you replay the game from the start with your whole inventory packed with nothing but P Wings.
Is the original SMB3 better than the Mario All Stars version? I remember hearing it had something better
I mean, they sorta tried that with putting two flutes right at the start of the game. You can literally boot it up and go to your favorite world no problem.
Maybe this ?
If racoon leaf, tanooki suit and p wing are allowed to be represented separately, along with the goomba shoe appearing in that list at all, then different yoshi/shell colors deserve to be represented to.
galoomba
Ninty, pls.
...
Looking at these designs, I can confidently say they come from a children's game. As in,
Super Mario Bros. 2, baby.
I swear the physics are slightly different in the All Stars version. I might be wrong, but to me it feels off in terms of weight, momentum, things like that. And I've heard other people say the same.
Maybe someone can clarify?
This.
Looking at this post, I can confidently say they come from a child. As in,
I'd love a remake of that
Parroting is one of the finest forms of displaying butthurt.
Super Mario Bros. 2
>when you hear a guy catcall you but you're a guy too
>All these replies, and yet no one noticed the Yoshi bait
The only All-Stars games with different physics are SMB and Lost Levels.
Wait a sec are u trying to cheat me again
i'm with you dude
I guess it's because they lacked bodies.
NSMB2
Not even joking
fuck you first new super mario brothers was better
NSMB2 isn't even the best NSMB game.
>that pic
>goomba autism
Please, fag. Once you start trying to consolidate every Mario enemy/species down into organized collections without redundancies, then we can talk.
This one looks like shit since I kept redoing it, but I have images for koopas, aquatic creatures, stone creatures, and pretty much every other type of enemy from a Mario game too.
Honestly speaking I refer to the quadrupedal koopas as "Koopa Creepas" to fit in line with their old name shellcreepers and to make them destinct from upright Koopa Troopas.
>I have images for koopas, aquatic creatures, stone creatures, and pretty much every other type of enemy from a Mario game too
Dump them if you don't mind, I'm curious.
bone goombas aren't gloombas though
their bodies are different
Honestly speaking I refer the the mushroom like Gooms as "Goomshrooms" to fit in line with their old appearance and to make them distinct from chestnut like Goombas.
Shellcreepers weren't koopa troopas.
can you post the boos?
Calling them Gloombas is better than calling them Goombas or making them a whole new species. Normal goombas in the paper mario series have yellow bodies anyways, so it's not like designs can't be slightly altered across games. Not saying bone goombas were intended to be gloombas, but they're probably modeled after the blue goombas in the original SMB to some degree, which is what gloombas are based on.
They're all fuckhuge and I'd have to comb through them to remove a few retarded oc names, on top of resizing and compressing them. But I will post the boos, for I don't know if this was the finished version or not, I haven't checked these for a while. I know that I made up a difference between atomic and big boos: big boos are large normal boos, but atomic boos are a bunch of boos gathered to make a larger boo. In reality, all big boos and atomic boos are just the same thing, according to japanese names (which are usually a good source of understanding certain confusing enemy names; yoshi's island for example has retarded names for most enemies, but in japanese things make more sense)
Looking at that image now it's clear I missed a bunch of boos and it was still a wip. For instance, the other balloon-type boo from NSMB isn't in there. I made several iterations of these images so forgive me.
Galaxy 2 is both my favorite 3D Mario and my favorite 2D Mario
thanks man
where is boo blah from?
My favorite 3D Mario is Luigi's Mansion and my favorite 2D Mario is Super Mario Land 3.
Since that image was a bit lack luster I'll post one more. I made these types of images for all main mario games, and a few side ones. This probably includes a bunch of fucking stupid oc names but whatever. Also it's probably too big to post normally so I'll just link it.
Yoshi's Island
Second-rate autism.
haha
Super Mario World and Mario U
>calls someone autistic
>posts these pics
>reading comprehension
>you
Pick one.
Aren't there mountain levels after the forest? All those vertical levels with the dinosaurs or even the ones around the bridge by the 4th castle?
That's why I said >world doesn't have mountain levels
I'm making the claim that SMW does, indeed, feature mountain levels.
Oh i misunderstood your post. I thought you were quoting not implying. Carry on
