I'm not one of those people but they exist. It seems to be the most common response whenever it gets brought up. "The game sucks but the story is great/the best." I got memed into playing Gates after playing the others and it has almost zero redeeming qualities, and none of those have anything to do with the story.

It's subjective. I'm not a fan of shooters, I'm just not that good at them, but I played through the Halo games for the story and felt like I got more than my money's worth, especially with Reach.

This is the mentality of autistic book purists too. The fact that it varied from the original story does not make it bad.

No you stupid fuck let me break this down for you.

1) The game was centered around the factions of the world and the ever growing threat of either one side engulfing the other, the burning legion's return, or the undead scourge taking over.

This stopped when WoW launched and became "LUL CHAMPIONZ, GO OUT AND COLLECT 5 PIG ANUSES FOR MY PIE AND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT BE A GOOD LAD AND KILL VENTURE CO!"

2) Faction leaders were powerful and meaningful to the story.

Other than the blip at the beginning and end of an expansion, faction leaders mean fuck all, and even then most of them still don't do shit and could be replaced by literally anyone.

3) Character deaths meant something

In WoW it ends up meaning "Well shit, guess Saurofang is going to give me more quests!"

4) Power scaling for "story" sake.

Yep, 25 half wits that spend their time collecting deer smegma totally can take down the lich king or kil'jaeden yet get rofl stomped by the next expansions roaming goats.

5) Demons

Now they're aliens! DURR HURR

6) Hell

Not a damn thing anymore

I really really could go on. WoW ruined the Warcraft story, it's not "different" it's shit.

I totally saw the gnome as well. My vision was a lot more badass than though.
