Nintendo will reveal that the NX will have VR at E3. A headset is currently being developed that will house the NX similar to google cardboard.

thats not plausible

Explain this patent and quote then

"One technology that I’m often commenting about is VR, and it’s one that I’m definitely interested in,” legendary Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto told us in an interview earlier this month. “But it’s one that I think that, given the environment right now, is difficult to bring to market in a way that reaches the broadest audience."

A patent doesn't mean anything, that quote literally says they won't do VR
Its called the Switch now, don't know if you've heard

They gave us a good abbreviation, why wouldn't I use it?

because itd be another peripheral

ultimately i dont know, but if it were the case then theyd have announced it already

if they do intend on making VR (which, guessing that doesnt make you nostradamus, anyone and their mothers' getting into VR and theyd be dumb not to)
then they arent with the current switch as it is

mainly because the controller would have to be redesigned

the joycon is clearly designed for multiplayer use out of one controller,
specifically based on how it is organized, with the same exact buttoning on either side, askew to make it work out just barely

now you could argue that VR is why theyre sticking with motion controls,
but
the controllers as they are now, that is holding a left and right joycon, is not anywhere near what youd actually need for VR games, see: the controllers in your pic related

if anything, they might make a headmount for the tablet
but that too doesnt seem all that likely since there would have been absolutely no reason to reveal that before its release, with the VR trend being what it is

so you have two pieces of information and one obvious fact,
1 - there is a patent that looks like a headmount
2 - the switch still has motion controls
fact - nintendo is intrigued by VR

>1 - this is only a patent, also furthermore thered be no reason to hide this information from the public if it were planned, as similar devices already exist.
>2 - all indications show that theyre leaning towards making more party games instead of actual VR control schemes, especially since the joycons asymmetrical design means fluid use of your two hands in a virtual world would be impaired (something that is the other side of the coin of them needing it to be asymmetrical for multiplayer use)

>fact - everyone is interested in VR, you an probably get a excerpt of kanye west saying hes intrigued by what he can do with VR

youre extrapolating a false conclusion from morsels of misinformation

Switch has a 720p screen. It cannot be used for Mobile VR.

it can but it will look shit, Even the 1080x1200 per eye resolution on the Vive stretched over FoV around 110 degrees looks barely acceptable.

Hell a 1920x1080 monitor looks sharper.

>can barely maintain 30fps at 720p
>VR
Nintendo is probably retarded enough to do it.

VR is already dead so expect Nintendo to double down on it because they don't know what they fuck they are doing.

they need another virtual boy right at this point for sure lmao

theyd probably release a different model for VR like they did with 3Ds

the gap between Switch to actual VR is much much much larger than the gap between 3DS and N3DS

If they can make the screen work then the Joycons would apparently work great for it. According to a developer of a game called Monochrono the thing's motion detection are roughly on par with Vive and Oculus

>no cameras or lighthouses or any kind of external tracking
>on par with Vive or Oculus

>any kind of external tracking
It does have a fancy ir camera

that it is but if smartphones have managed to get VR working I don't see how Nintendo cannot make their own implementation. Of course it will suck compared to PCVR.

The Switch tablet is 720p, which means VR with a carbboard style headset will result in visible pixels and this will look like shit and not be immersive.

On dock mode it's 1080p. If there's some option to turn switch dock mode with a power wire (without actually docking it), it would be 1080p, thus higher PPI than the dock mode.

Smartphones generally have 1080p or higher resolution, on a screen that is smaller than that of switch, thus the PPI is higher.

it would be 1080p, thus higher PPI than the handheld mode*

yet to see a single accurate and responsive form of intrinsic tracking system. There are companies working on making it a reality but I doubt it will be made practical anytime soon.
