>The smart phone app that we’re creating, that will be part of our online service, we believe is going to be a very compelling part of the overall proposition because that’s how you’ll voice chat, that’s how you’ll do your matchmaking, and create your lobby. We also think it’s a very elegant solution because if you’ve taken your switch on the go, you’ve put yourself in a hotspot, you’re looking at get a quick match of Mario Kart in, to whip out some sort of bulky, gamer headset is a bit of a challenge. >So we think we’ve got an elegant solution. That’s a very specific answer to your question.
Nintendo revolutionizing the industry, as per usual.
Austin Foster
No one that plays Nintendo even owns a smartphone.
Michael Myers
pretty sure everyone owns a smartphone
Nathaniel Peterson
more like they don't have enough software engineers
Juan Turner
autistic nintentoddlers on Sup Forums dont own phones
Owen Walker
maybe the switch will tether to your phone's data signal so you can play online on the go, that'd be cool
Jace Hernandez
I hope the user that was here yesterday saying this is optional doesn't commit sudoku
Matthew Evans
and you'd know that, huh?
Jordan Rogers
Shut up, Bob.
Robert Clark
you know, if that's what they mean by this then that actually would be pretty smart, but they've been far too vague to tell.
Henry Young
He'll just tell himself how great it is when he realizes it isn't
Adam Allen
>Pay a sub >To use your phone
Jaxson Young
>having to use a separate smart phone app for online relations >COMPELLING
NINTENDO PREASE

>The creators of one of the biggest hit games amongst youngsters today is unveiling a new partnership. Today creators of Splatoon are announcing a worldwide partnership with Pampers. We know our main audience is a demographic that also needs the comfort and portability that Pampers can provide so we are officially announcing our partnership going forward. Now with any purchase of Pampers diapers, toddlers will receive an unlock code for a special skin available for use in game.
>Were beyond excited for this opportunity, now when you need to play on the go, Pampers will provide our fans with the ability to play as you want and not have to worry about wearing bulky, uncomfortable diapers, or waiting in a line to use to bathroom, we think that's a pretty sweet deal and one of the advantages to a paid online subscription. - Reggie Fils Amie
Xavier Davis
Oh, yeah, it's SO much easier to play video games while holding your fucking phone than it is to use a headset which is designed to be worn hands free.
>bulky gamer headset > in eat headsets have existed for a decade
Isaiah Torres
>paid online >does not even include voice chat
cant make this shit up
Charles Nelson
>included games are roms that get deleted at the end of the month
Ethan Sanchez
Who they would talk to? Their imaginary friends?
Christopher Perez
It's not optional, is it?
David Allen
No, all their talk so far has hinted that the switch itself will do nothing on its own and you will need your smartphone app in order to communicate and establish gaming sessions with your friends.
Robert Brown
your mom
Nathan Bennett
Yeah it's so awkward carrying around a headset. It would be far more convenient if I had to carry around, I don't know, a phone AND the inevitable headset I'll need because no one will be able to hold their fucking phone and play games at the same time
Reggie spews literal bullshit from his mouth
Xavier Cox
How in the flying fuck is that even going to work?
Grayson Stewart
Why would I want to play an online game on the go?
Mason Reed
So like, how's that gonna work? You're sitting at this hypothetical hotspot in somewhere public, and then you just put your phone in loudspeaker mode and proceed to yell shit at it as screeching 12 year old voices come pouring back out? Maybe the Switch will support one-handed mode so you can hold your phone to your ear with one hand and play with the other?
Maybe they expect you to use one of those non-bulky, non-gamer headsets made for phones, and maybe it would have been a hundred times more straightforward and elegant if you could plug that motherfucker directly in the Switch instead of having to worry about your phone also running out of battery because it would kill Nintendo if they ever did something the same way normal people do it.
Charles Flores
>if you could plug that motherfucker directly in the Switch The Switch isn't powerful enough to handle a voice chat lobby simultaneously while playing games, the games already tax the system to the max
This is just their bullshit way of PR spinning it and I think they should just be honest. It's disgusting to watch adult men lying about a product to try to sell more units
Joseph Moore
You probably wouldn't, and if you did you'd probably be better off with an in ear hetset plugged into the Switch.
It's just PR lies to hide that the Switch has no memory to spare for background operations.
Aiden Hernandez
>tfw my phone is ancient and I never use it anyway
Jeremiah Fisher
Thank you based Nintendo for finding solutions to non-existing problems.
Joshua Moore
Nintendo continues to revolutionize the console market through the use of their incredible innovation with smart device technology. I as a consumer, look forward to all the amazing features that the Nintendo Switch will provide for me and my family. Thank you again Nintendo for breathing fresh air into the console ecosystem that was so desperately needed.
Liam Reyes
Who uses phones to talk to people?
I use mine to avoid people and shitpost on Sup Forums everywhere I go.
Landon Gomez
The only advantage the console voice chats have over Discord is that they are built into the console. If you need to use your phone anyways, Discord is a better option by far.
The only reason you'd use the Nintendo one is if you're trying desperately to justify the online subscription.
Tyler Lopez
>Who uses phones to talk to people
What has this fucking world come to?
Easton Nguyen
You're forced to use it, not just for chat but for lobby and matchmaking
Parker Walker
>charge money for a service >outsource said services to phone apps of your consumers
Why are they charging money for a service again?
Ian Peterson
because they're nintendo
Lucas Lewis
You can do this on any Android device by enabling your personal Hotspot.
Jacob Richardson
Aside from it being mandatory for voice chat, I think this is pretty neat. I wish there was a way to do it through the console itself, but I appreciate Nintendo trying to experiment a little.
Kevin Martin
It's funny that i've always wanted something like this. But the non-option to have something else on the console kills the deal.
Why can't there be both
Oliver Edwards
it's not powerful enough
Charles Gonzalez
>Nintendo fags are defending this shit
Noah Taylor
>you’ve put yourself in a hotspot Why would you play online on an hotspot? Especially whil playing something where lag matters like racing or shooters which will be both on the console
Jace Reed
I doubt it. It seems like they just saved money per console shipped by excluding it.
Brody Hill
How is that neat? Matchmaking is essentially off-loaded from their servers to your phone. That's not experimenting, that's them trying to save money by turning you into hosts.
Sebastian Mitchell
>bulky gamer headset
Like I'm not just gonna use the mic attached to just about any pair of earbuds you can buy, which also fit in my pocket
Sometimes being a Nintendo fan is pain.
John Sanders
>use phone has hotspot >use phone for voice chat and online matchmaking It's like a race on which device will drain the batteries faster, either way you will be fucked.
Aaron Wright
That is what they mean, the article OP linked said that.
Zachary Ward
>have to pay for online so that they can have all the online features running through my phone anyway >they actually think pulling out a phone to fucking match make is more convenient than just having it all in game
nintendo have gone of the deep end, there's no saving them.
Ryan Baker
>paying extra to use your internet >paying extra to use your phone uhhhh
Jose Butler
Because it's a different way of doing it than I've seen any other company, user. It's neat by virtue of it not having been done like this before, even if it's a bad idea. >Matchmaking is essentially off-loaded from their servers to your phone. That's not experimenting, that's them trying to save money by turning you into hosts. You can't really say that just yet. While it does sound like that, it's still marginally better than the P2P shit Nintendo's had up until now. Plus, I doubt that random matchmaking can ONLY be done through your phone. Even Nintendo's not that fucking stupid. They're probably just making it so that you can join parties through your phone. Of course, the system isn't even out yet, so I could very well end up eating my words.
Jordan James
Even the fucking DS could handle online multiplayer.
Nintendo just wants money from the ads that will appear in this godforsaken app.
Isaac Rivera
That's bullshit, those things would be handled by the games themselves so it's not like the devs wouldn't factor that in when designing their software. And games taxing the system to the max is relative to how far each dev decides to push the system, you can't make a blanket statement like that.
Besides, how taxing can voice chat be when even the fucking Vita does it?
Jason Cruz
My 3 year old phone can do that already out of the box. I'm pretty sure iphones also had it for the longest time.
Isaac Allen
All Nintendo has to do for paid online was build in 4g, hell, even 3g and charge you for it. It would have been 10/10.
Asher Gonzalez
well yeah, exactly - it's already an existing technology, so why create something to replace it unnecessarily? As long as they don't have you actually talking into your phone (just using the phone as a hotspot) I'd be honestly fine with that.
Isaac Thomas
I don't think you know what the word neat means. Neat implies that the observer is impressed by what is being observed. I think "unique" is what you are looking for like in "uniquely idiotic".
Luis Murphy
cause it's also a handheld which can be played on the go.
David Harris
It isn't even being made by them. This is DeNA's handiwork. Paid online is just their way of paying DeNA for setting things up for them
Ethan Gutierrez
They are just being cheap, all their 'reasons' are just lies to distract from how cheap and greedy they are.
