I aint in the mood to meme. I prefer my fantasy races to be fresh takes or just an aspect of their character that is played with (Dungeon Meshi). I think anyone that gets triggered by a fictional race is retarded and I find the whole wood elf tradition to be boring as shit.

Basically shit like te Dunmer in Elder Scrolls are a great elf race. Hell all of the Elder Scrolls mer are pretty interesting and well-developed. Basically less Tolkien and more of your own work. But that goes for any race, especially if your dwarves are drunks who speak like they're from Warcraft.

Elves are pretty pointless if they're essentially humans only a bit more long-lived and a bit more haughty.

Tolkien did it right by making them super-Aryan masterrace, who are similar to humans but do everything at superhuman scale, devoured by fiercely burning passions, capable of feats no army could achieve.

An alternative would be to make them a bit like humans—only their biology, culture, and other aspects would not just be a repainting of existing human cultures, but more alien—either more powerfully savage, or more ephemeral, or less constrained by time and mortality than anything the races of man could bring forth.

Except that melee units in 40k are only useful if you use an apc to carry them around and suicide them into the enemy. Firing line armies usually mulch melee armies unless said melee army has stupidly good stats for their units or really large numbers.
