Game had over an entire generation of hype

>game had over an entire generation of hype
>suddenly dropped off the face of the Earth not even a month after release

What the fuck happened?

It's a masterpiece though.

It's not very good, also so many indie games stole it's thunder

It was, and always will be a niche game, like all of Team ico's stuff.

Because it was good, but there was no possible way it would live up to the expectations and people were inevitably disappointed.

It's a mechanically quirky single player game that is both post widespread online console multiplayer but also post Shadow of the Colossus

It was a good game and there was nothing to shitpost about.

>dodgy framerate
normal for Ueda game

>linear gameplay
fairly normal for Ueda game-- SOTC was only the illusion of open world since there was still an expected order to do the Colossi in and there is pretty much nothing in the open world besides the Colossi anyway

You can either have mass market appeal or you can be a masterpiece in a particular niche but you can't be both.

It was a decent game with very little replayability. More people watched YouTube LPs of it than actually bought it, and saw no point in buying it themselves.

It plays like a mediocre indie game. It isn't great at anything.

People got tired of artsy "experience" games

Not much fodder for shitposting, so it rarely gets mentioned here

The idea of someone watching an LP of this instead of playing it themselves makes me feel sick

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF? Do you know what you're missing out on?

Honestly this, I can confidently say that despite its flaws it is actually in the leagues with my favorite video games ever.

>More people watched YouTube LPs of it than actually bought it
That's what I did. Watched enough to completely lose interest.

What's the game length anyway?

What does that even mean?

people played it, enjoyed it and leave it at that

Personally I think it had more of an impact on people who have a dog. I only have a cat and Trico is definitely more of a dog than a cat.

5-6 hours and you should be done with it (forever)

From what I could tell, trico acts a lot like a dog, but moves like a cat.

Wrong Platform

PCfags like the artsy indie shit now, PS4 is the new Xbox 360, it's for Dudebro's, no wonder it sold like shit

People thought that it should've been perfect, because they thought it was constantly in development, always moving forward instead of the truth, which was that it was just not being worked on

See DNF and FFXV for further examples

Probably about the same as Ico, I'd imagine.

TLG is very much a combination of stuff from his previous two games.

user, just because it's not shitposted about on the internet, doesn't mean the game doesn't exist and isn't being enjoyed thoroughly by all who play it.

Pretty much this, I never really saw the hype that people claimed it had. Maybe it did when Shadow of the Colossus was still fresh in people's minds, but whatever. I do like Team ICO's stuff, but I figured this game would be worth a buy after a price drop, given the amount of complaints from Sup Forums and people who paid $60 for it

5 - 6 hours is like a speed run man, it realistically takes around 10 - 15 hours

I paid more than 60 (got collectors edition) and don't regret a single cent. Again though the game isn't for everyone.

It's a single player puzzle/adventure game that isn't called Zelda.

Niche as shit.

Everyone on Sup Forums loved it and I don't understand it. I just think SOTC and ICO was just better overall. I just didn't have the greatest luck with the AI as it took me awhile to understand what the game wanted me to do with Trico and it just straight up glitching out at key moments.

inb4 the ai is supposed to be shit and playing pretend is how you truly enjoy the game. I just don't buy it. You just can't hinge a game's quality on a superficial element.

It was very forgettable though, linear single player games like SOTC, Half Life, etc still get talked about 10 years later, people forget about TLG after a week

Niche game and nothing really to shitpost about.

That last third of the game is just fucking beautiful man.

7/10

If you have this mindset I honestly think the game wasn't for you in the first place.

>tfw you will never be THIS deluded

The game is average and that's why nobody is talking about it

Not bad enough to shitpost about, just another "Interactive experience" for the people who like that stuff. It does nothing interesting in terms of game mechanics so there's nothing to really talk about, feels like something that'll end up on ps+ in a year and see a short resurgence before everyone forgets it. Doubt people will look back on it as something unique the way they do with SOTC.

sotc ico and this game are overrated as fuck

Thanks for your useless opinion.

Sony systems are as dudebro now as they have always been for at least 20 years.

The game ironically wasn't that unique, at least not anymore, it was very formulaic & that's why it's forgettable

The game has a vibe that so many indie games have mastered years ago, plus the whole AI companion has been done to death since Half Life 2

Gonna have to disagree with that. The game is far from average. It is really a fantastic game imo.

you're not allowed to make emotional games anymore because Sup Forums is sick of artsy indie games

Anticipating It'll be on ps plus in a year

>Tell Catbird to do thing
>He doesn't

Also

>Run around like a jackals for an hour
>Well fuck I'm stumped
>Open a walk through
>It's the first thing I tried but you really have jump autistically over and over again at the ledge until he finally grabs it

Fuckin hate this game.

You being bad at the game does not mean the game is bad

>walk through
lol

>"artsy"

What does THAT mean?

>"indie"

TLG is as far from an indie game as you can get. It was funded by a major publisher for 10 years.

I predict the majority of people with issues spammed commands, instead of waiting to see if Trico was getting ready to execute the command.

I nicknamed Trico after my dog.

I still miss him....

for some reason, of all things, one detail i think they nailed in this game is the sounds the barrel makes when Trico eats it. There's a really satisfying wooden "crunch" noise of the wood bending as he chews it.

...

it's a garbage game. that's basically it

Yea I think so too. I didn't have nearly as many issues as other people had.

The game was enjoyable for me. Trico responded to all my commands, but I wasn't spamming them like some people seemed to be.

Only complaints are the camera would flip the fuck out in small corridors and the kid controlled like a drunk most of the time.

7.5/10. Ending made me cry like a bitch.

Inside is way better and it didn't take 10 years to make.

You're trying too hard.

>clunky
>no replay value
>muh artistic game
>performance issues

No wonder, there's nothing to this game.

I honestly pity people like you

The kid's controls were definitely the larger issue along with the camera, but I'm not entirely sure what they could have done to improve it besides remove autograbbing. It definitely felt unique though, like the kid had actual weight to them.

Same thing will happen to Nier:Automata outside of the occasional ass posting

>Ending made me cry like a bitch.
Trico's poor tail! ;; Trico didn't deserve the abuse.

If there was, people would talk about it.
But they don't.
It's a mediocre game that expects me to feel sorry for the pet gimmick and say that the game is good because muh feels.

Took too long to release, ended up being mediocre, was never going to live up to the hype anyway.

Like Duke.

I don't think about you at all

Becasue video games arent art.

>Same thing will happen to Nier:Automata
the ass posting will be the only thing that stops, NieR is part of a decade long series you dumb motherfucker

what's the random hostility?

People on Sup Forums not talking about it, is not the same as people not talking about it in general. Sup Forums is only for shitposting these days.

So is Final Fantasy, and people have already forgotten about XV.

for the players
actually nobody buy it
really make you think

Not that guy but how do you know it's not the game's fault? Because you didn't have a problem with it? I didn't get stuck in the game but I pretty much understand a lot of the problems this game has issues conveying.

>the game's perfect
>the ai is perfect you just need to treat it like real animal

is not a good defence for the game.

theres 3 Final Fantasy XV threads up right now

:^)

Absolutely this

Unfortunately you're wrong on multiple accounts. The game was good for more than "Muh feels" for the "pet gimmick", and honestly classifying trico mechanics as a gimmick makes me wonder if you played the game or understand what a gimmick is. There was a lot packed in the game, and while it wasn't perfect there are people in this thread right now talking about it in terms of flaws and strengths.

That's cute. I imagine you don't think about a lot so it doesn't really surprise me.

Not him but
>:^)
Fuck off to Reddit.

This, so many indies have aped Team Ico's work and the philosophical 2deep video game genre is almost saturated with shit at this point

I'm not saying the games perfect. I was making fun of that guy for not being able to play the game and needing a walk through. He expressed that he was bad at the game. Unless I'm some chosen one who is somehow great at the last guardian or something, then I experienced problems too but unlike him I was able to figure them out without crying about it.

The game even crashed on me at one point and froze my whole ps4. Of course I'm not saying the game is perfect.

shitty puzzles and frustrating AI?

>Do you know what you're missing out on?
A few simple puzzles and iffy controls.

There's not much to talk about once you've beaten it. I had fun and didn't experience any glitches (aside from the camera spazzing out a few times) but maybe that was because I played it after it was patched. The framerate was good on the Pro.

No point in buying it if you watched a playthrough on youtube though, the whole point of the game is discovering out what Trico is capable of. You really have to encourage and believe in him which I thought was really charming. It's a puzzle game where the central puzzle is the creature itself.

I'd like to know why the deadzone is so huge on the analog sticks. Who play tested this? That's like the first thing you notice in a game, the camera controls.

Trico is qt. Wish she was a real animal.

I like the way you phrased that, trico being a puzzle itself. There were also little things about him, subtle things like the different ways he could eat barrels, how sometimes he would snuggle into you while you petted him, and tiny details like that which really made him feel even more alive. And he evolves throughout the game as much as you do.

But yea also I loved the game so there's that.

Very cute.

there was litearlly no hostility in that post, stop being sensitive.

And he's right in the sense that Nier posting only happened once in a blue moon or when something new came up. Most people from what I see in threads don't even know much about the game but are interested in trying or are the couple anons (myself included) that post in a lot of those threads.

...

Because Team ICO is overrated

Hardly. Their just niche. And it seems like it's not your niche.

They're *

Good, the faster it disappears from this board full of contrarian shitposters the better.

It's a niche game that doesn't have much to talk about.

The game is mediocre and does nothing new. Its kind of like an embarrasment considering how long it took to make. Does not surprise me at all though considering both Ico and SotC were also bad games.

>It's kind of like an embarrassment
So what now you're like a valley girl or something?

For fucks sake I'm starting to agree with Here and I really wanted there to be a good discussion or two about this game at least

its a case of wasted potential. I think tricos sometimes game breakingly bad ai and the tedious gameplay (tell me being stuck in the cage and the physics puzzles with tricos food weren't total shit) really hamper the experience. it's beautiful, imaginative and technologically impressive, but the core game is mediocre at best

What about the bad camera and absolutely retarded AI? Can't wait to see you justify that nonsense, you moronic fanboy.

Most of the issues seemed to be solved with the post-launch patches.

complaints about camera always feel like reaching to me, also. it's like if you can't find anything real to complain about, "the camera sucks though"

Like yeah the fade-to-black camera resets are little baffling, but I guess they figured that was easier than checking that the camera couldn't clip into any walls or whatever. still stupid but not a dealbreaker at all

too fucking long desu. It took me probably like 7 or 8 but it felt like god damn 22

not that user but it happened to me too
>tell Trico to do a thing
>he doesn't
>hmm guess I can't do that
>explore for another 10-15 mins
>get stumped
>try original thing again
>he does it

CUTE

Tricos AI is great if you treat him right, only bad to those that didn't learn how to play the game

not him but lurk more

>WOW, LURK MORE, DON'T YOU KNOW THAT THIS EPIC MEME OF EPICNESS FROM LE [s4s] IS NOW Sup Forums APPROVED
Kill yourself Redditor.

Everyone watched a playthrough on youtube so it only sold 3 copies

you went absolutely full retard you autist. Kill YOURSELF ;)
