b-bump? no one playing this tonight?

well there's another thread. But I think the game should maintain its charm with the graphical and musical downgrades. I'm a big fan of the original and Ill be picking this up because I think the rest of the game holds up and if Im gonna play it for a fourth time I'm excited for new content

Had to cancel my pre-order. Rather get Yakuza 0 next week, and I need to buy a new car.

Waiting for the USA undub to release

>midi
>censorship
No.

yeah I want yakuza 0 too, that and nioh it's gonna be an expensive month.

Meant to reply to btw.

Why not just set up region emulation instead of being an illiterate pleb, subhuman shitface?

Ordered it physical off Amazon, comes in tomorrow

>did I fuck up?

You did. You bought a game that has dated unchanged gameplay for eight fucking installments - and you did it at full price.

niggers

technically it's $20 less than it was a decade ago

Okay, fine, but you still supported Nintendo. So that is probably worse.

I'm not op, I'm just being a pedantic faggot

Anyone not too fond of 7 but loved 8?

First one I played was 9 and holy shit it was the best game ever. Then I played Heroes and Builders, great stuff there.

But man, 7 3DS was so boring. A few islands were fun but for the most part it took WAY too long to get going with stuff like tablets and classes and when I did get to them they just weren't as fun as 9. Dropped it around getting Sir Mercyn but it's digital so I'm stuck with it.

Anyway 8 seems better but I wanna make sure that 9 wasn't just a one-hit wonder

Like, 60% of DQVIII for me was the gorgeous orchestrated soundtrack

I can't imagine playing it at all without it

8 is much better than 7 it has a coherent story and the dialogue is actually interesting. Plus you don't have to wait 35 hours to get actually interesting abilities.

you can fast forward battles too.

7 is an ok game sandwiched between two of the best games in the series.

If you liked 9, play 3. 3 is my personal favorite, 9 a close second. They're very similar in design

8 isn't as slow as 7, and the characters are much better, but it's nothing like 9 at all

Got my copy today. Just comfy in my bed playing it. I really like the QoL improvements but damn the downgrade. The pop-in is atrocious. Fucking gras sometimes spawns only if you are 1 foot near it. It got already less trees and foliage but even that pops in all the time. But this is my only complaint so far. Just beat the waterfall boss and doing the sidequest for the mountain guy.

>First one I played was 9 and holy shit it was the best game ever.
Eh not really. I didn't hate the game or anything, but it's probably one of the weaker entries. It's just too focused on being a multiplayer game rather than a solid single player one.

Don't throw ANYTHING away. Alchemy can make great weapons earlier than you can get them normally.

Does the 3DS version add anything, or am I just better off sticking to the PS2 version?

2 new companions
Dhoulmagus themed expansion
New postgame

So it's not worth 40 shekels, thanks.

Oh cool, thanks, I haven't played it in a while, I'll give the 3DS version a go.

I liked 8 more than 7.
7 has you going back and forth too much in the same area before going to the next area and doing that again. Would've been tolerable if you could Zoom to more places.

>did I fuck up buying the best game ever made?
You sure did.

-Two new playable characters
-New story for Medea, Marcello, Red and other characters
-New dungeons
-New post game story
-Option to marry Jessica
-New skill trees
-New monsters to collect
-On field enemies replace random encounters
-Alchemy pot is instant from the start
-New alchemy recipes
-Weekly online content like Dragon Quest VII 3DS

Oh I forgot:

-Snapshot mode like in Zelda Wind Waker

how hard is it to recruit morrie

damn sounds comfy.

I don't know. I haven't played the game yet to see how its done. But I think you just get Red and Morrie along the main story now. I've been told that characters you aren't using just go into the wagon (like in Dragon Quest IV-VI). And they gain EXP even when not in battle.

>Weekly content

Didn't play VII 3DS, what exactly did that entail?

Have to pick my copy up tomorrow at Gamestop

>-On field enemies replace random encounters
How can you tell which are infamous monsters then?

I loved DQVIII as a kid but didn't have a memory card. I got to the guy who was the moon or lived in the moon, idk but my dad turned off my PS2 one day while I was at school and I never had the heart to restart it.

I figured with it portable it might be time to finally give it another shot. For anyone who knows what I'm talking about do you guys know how far I got in the game before?

Is it fair to say that the graphical downgrade in the 3DS version is not a deal-breaker?

Red is part of the main story. Morrie is optional and you get have to beat the new S Rank in the arena to unlock him.

>dated unchanged gameplay for eight fucking installments
You can say it's unchanged because at the end of the day it's turnbased combat, but most installments at least added something new. It's okay to say you just don't like Dragon Quest.

Is Red integrated into the standard story scenes well?

My copy is coming tomorrow with Gravity Rush 2.

What skills does Red and Morrie have? The only real rebalancing I really know of is Jessica's whip ability Twin Dragon Lash is nerfed so you best not use it.

>Twin Dragon Lash nerfed

That's more upsetting than the costume changes

>Mage character got a physical attack nerfed
She never really should have had it that strong in the first place. Against single enemies she out damage both Hero and Yangus.

Dragon Quest VII had tablets you download at the Haven. I don't know how DQVIII is going to do it.

How nerfed?

The useless kind

>First one I played was 9
>7 was so boring
please neck thyself

dragon-quest.org/wiki/Twin_Dragon_Lash

Jessica can use Twin Dragon Lash after allocating 23 skill points into her whip skill, and it deals 150% damage per strike.

Toned down slightly in the 3DS port, the skill now 90% damage per strike.

The kind that you better start just using her as your fucking mage.

I'm not a big fan of VI and VII, but they're still good games. The issue isn't that they are bad themselves, just comparing them to the other DQ games is the problem.

That was her destined role to begin with. At least it's a 2 hitter.

>90% damage per strike
With a Gringham Whip won't that still going to hit hard as fuck?

So I think you should obviously use Claws for Morrie, but what about Red? What is her best main weapon?

I hope it doesn't have that annoying lag in menus like the 3DS remake of VII. That shit was super annoying, padded each battle out by like 5 seconds.

A bit but the whole point of giving Jessica Twin Dragon Lash was because she outdid Hero and Yangus in terms of damage against bosses and single enemies. With the nerf she doesn't anymore so you might as well give her staves and just cast spells like she should have been doing.

Yeah, that absurd damage on PS2 version was obviously a mistake.

So much bullshit coming out in the next 3 months. Yakuza, nier, persona, DQ, berserk, switch, zelda, nioh, yooka laylee, RE7 etc.

Yes. You're basically going to do 180% damage instead of 100% (one hit). The drawback to Twin Dragon Lash is it hits 1-2 random enemies and not a whole group. I tend to not use it except for bosses or mobs with no groups.

Will 8 have that weekly tablet shit like 7 did?

[spoilers]is it as fun as SQ 9?[/spoilers]

ctrl+s

And kind of different games. DQ9 focus more on raiding with friends and grinding levels with different classes. DQ8 is more story focus.

Apparently. No randomized dungeons though. Think it's related to either the camera mode function or that second new dungeon where you fight upgraded versions of old bosses. A bit like the legacy boss dungeons in IX. Even with your party at level 99 with maxed out stats, Estark can still wipe out them out in two turns.

Dragon Quest VIII and IX are so opposite of each other, you can't really compare them. But I prefer DQVIII.

Are there sick missables in this game or can I just paly it blind

Did they ever re-release the tablets for VII or are they just lost forever now?

>Why not just set up region emulation instead of being an illiterate pleb
he is the type of user who has to have his hand held every step of the way. Most of Sup Forums is like this mainly due to holidays

lord forgive that mistake and the spelling typo i've made.

So if i liked DQ 9 and find DQ 7 a bore, will i like DQ8 ?

also does DQ8 have lots of quest in DQ9 ?
sucker for sidequests

How long is 8? I remember playing it but I dont remember anything other than the first dungeon and recruiting Angelo

It looks okay on the 3DS screen. Surprisingly smooth too, unlike the aliased mess that most 3DS games are. The text boxes are blurry as shit though for whatever reason.

It doesn't. At least not on a N3DS with the forced faster CPU clock via Luma. It could run like shit without that for all I know.

i refuse to buy this game as i brought the ps2 version when it was first released. It would have to have a lot of new content for me to justify a purchase

Again, I can't tell you because they're such different games. Its like asking if you will like Chrono Trigger because you liked Final Fantasy XII. There's no common connection to compare.

>It would have to have a lot of new content for me to justify a purchase
See

What did you dislike about DQ7? DQ7 to a lot of fans is a much more slower game. And DQ7 focus more on smaller stories than one big one.

Itll have an icon above its head

Why would you want to marry a bimbo like jessica when medea is literally perfect in every way?

anyone else notice that random npcs dont move their mouths during convos?
kinda odd

They're still releasing them. They rotate so you can eventually get tablets you missed. Unless I missed the memo and they just cancelled the service due to low traffic, but they kept IX's going a good few years after launch.

VIII has a couple of sidequests but they're nothing like the volume or structure of IX's. Nothing else in the series has quests like IX.

My usual playthrough was like 100 hours to beat Rhapthorne but I took my time.

I beat it in about 20 hours, I'm not that dedicated of a JRPG player either. Just kidding expect 100 hours if you're taking your time and you're new to it.

I personally don't. I've played DQVIII four times and I still think its going to be hard for me to pick the Jessica option on the 3DS. I may not go through with it. Medea is tied with Alena and Bianca for the best DQ girl in my head.

kinda repetitive due to lots of backtracking i guess.
i've played it to the point where i unlocked the sea dragon and on my way to the next spirit after defeating fire spirit.

im going to go for jessica because its the new thing, but its going to see like an odd choice if they dont have some sort of new scenes together before then.
at least with media you had the magic pond scenes.

anyone?

The only real backtrack is about 2/3 in and by that point you have quick ways to get around the world so it's not that bad. And unlike DQ7 you can go everywhere without having to deal with the whole time travel that stops you.

I'd say about 1/5 of the way at most

>childhood friend trapped into a marriage with the most loathsome character in the franchise
>versus
>an attractive pair of tits with a big brother complex who already has Angelo to fall back on

These new scenes where Jessica and the Hero bond had better be something fucking spectacular to change my mind. Not even the original version of V where Bianca's dad died and she was left miserable if you chose Nera was as clear cut as the choice in VIII.

Jesus. Guess I got a lot to look forward to, thank you!

Sadly I hear that they didn't add anything to Jessica's story or character. So yes, it is going to feel odd. The one major thing this remake should be doing is improving Jessica, who is the only real one dimensional character in DQVIII. Even random NPCs have more character development than she does. All she has is anger. Anger at Angelo, then her mom, then Dhoulmagus, then Rapthorne...girl is just angry.

>Wanting to marry a literal horse.

Come on lads, don't be weird.

i wish there was a code to make enemies on the map also go full aggro and chase you from far away. like you have to go out of your way to get into battles. its so easy just to walk past encounters.

on the upside though, its going to make speedruns great.
dq series needs new game+ so bad.

does anyone not use swords with Hero?

Word from king clavius is that she's va va JRHNBR

spears are better for leveling but not as cool

There's some new optional scenes with her you have to do to unlock the new ending. Yangus gets Red in the party after you beat Captain Crow (she leaves the party just to give Yangus her flail and then immediately rejoins you anyway) and Angelo gets more time with Marcello in the second bonus dungeon.

I mainly focus on Spears. But in the end you most likely want to give Hero Spear, Sword, and Courage.

Fisticuffs is worth a few points for Defending Champion and spears are for levelling. I used Boomerangs for half the game but I never pumped any points into them.

You're buying her game right Sup Forums?

I did fists last time. Pretty fun punchan shit

If buy buying you mean currently installing the CIA with fixed music and de-censored clothes, then yeah.

I used to be a swordfag for him but then I got the Holy Lance after the third boss and I never went back.

>Red gives you extra money from battles and she can spend money for damage

she seems fun

>not wanting to marry a horse
