He killed the people responsible and went beyond, but there's no telling how many of them were in on the plan to kill him and not pay at all. Geralt also has had a past with murdering people in fits of rage or for bad reasons, he wasn't always the washed up old man he is in 3.

The peasants are already dead, killing him won't bring them back. Even with all the people he killed his life is worth more in the people he'll save from a ghoul or something.
