Why are Americans so self-absorbed?
Listening to them rave on and on about themselves over VOIP. I'd try to steer the conversation to something more light hearted but it always goes back to something that's happened to them.

ive noticed this as well. if fighting 3 people at once in pvp, the typical response from an american would be "im taking on 3 at once / it took 3 of them to kill me" whereas someone else would say "come help me kill these guys"

Society, culture, genetics, parenting.

Lots of factors but the biggest one is choice.

I choose to be a selfish, witty, prick but I also choose not to intentionally hurt other people; unless they stand in my way or fuck with me, then they're fair game.
