What are your thoughts on Half-Life 1 and its expansions?

What are your thoughts on Half-Life 1 and its expansions?

Fun but got kinda boring towards the end except for this one kinda cool segment.

>expansions

Did Blue Shift or Opposing Force even need the base game?

Can you call them expansions if they are standalone? Shouldn't you call them spin-offs?

...

user, I don't think you understand what a spin off or expansion is. An expansion can be standalone.

Half-Life is the greatest game of all time.

Opposing Force is the greatest expansion of all time.

Blue Shift is okay.

They did require the base game.

...

HL1 is more fun than HL2 in just about every way
Opposing Force is the only good thing Gearbox ever made

I'm not a pleb who needs to selectively pick out games to like or don't like. People should play Half-Life, Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Decay, and maybe Uplink and appreciate it as the Black Mesa saga.

Thoughts on Black Mesa?

Fuck them for making people wait for Xen, then going 'Oh sorry, only paid version gets Xen now :^)'

Will pirate as soon as Xen is added

Fucking amazing and can't wait for Xen this summer, been "can't waiting" for-fucking-ever, but it's comin'. Certainly best re-make of a game I've seen.

Really should be the standard for "HD" remakes, but fuck the all-seeing, aimbotting human grunts, as well as jewing out and selling it unfinished before Xen was added.

Marine AI was retardedly accurate. I still prefer the feel of the original game but it's a nice reimagining.

Great. Sets an example others remakes should take ques from. They just need to release Xen fucking finally.

It updates and reimagines alot while staying true to the original and not losing sight of what makes a Half Life game. Thoroughly enjoyed it, but it desperately needs to be finished.

>Half-Life 1
If you open Gordon's locker, you will see a picture of a wife and child. The two are never ever mentioned in the series.

Huge tonal shift. HL2 doesn't even resemble the first game apart from vortigaunts and headcrabs.

>Wife
Theres no picture of a wife, only a baby with a thumbs up next to it. It was one of the dev's baby.

The paid version actually fixes the retardedly accurate and next to impossible human AI

I played BM when it first came out, and again not too long ago on Early Access. The AI has absolutely had an overhaul and feels much more fair and balanced.

back in the day?

holy shit, yeah you fucking of course needed the base game!

Blue Shift's ending was really good. It felt like a real desperate race against time.
