I'm interested in trying out some god simulators. Is Black & White, or B&W2, any good? And do you have any other god simulators you'd recommend? I'd especially be into shit that allows you to fuck with nature and animals and mold the natural world into whatever path you want.

Let's just get Reus out of the way to start off it and some would say it's more of a puzzle game.
A whole lot of the game is hidden behind progression too so if you were to jump straight into sandbox, effect would be similar to playing C&C with only machine gunners.
B&W is the best.
2 is pretty but meh in comparison
I played a ton of both, but looking back they are pretty bad games.
>shit that allows you fuck with animals
I know what you're up to, OP
Wasn't this game hyped as shit back at e3 '99 or whatever and then it was underwhelming as fuck after it came out?
I've wasted half of my teenage years playing B&W and B&W 2, they're pretty fucking great.
Two is sadly more of a clunky city builder than a god game, but it's still pretty enjoyable. Also changes how the world looks depending on how good or evil you are, which I guess applies for your "fucking with nature" request to some extent. You can also summon natural disasters and shit later on if you're into that, but they're not permanent.
Are you implying Peter lied?
Play Populus. The first one. Read the manual or FAQ first...play SNES version I guess. Has much better sound than the PC version from 1989
Black and white was good but was ruined by the hamfisted gameplay dimension of having other gods encroach on your territory. Like wtf I just want to chill while playing this not have to fight another god (Populus is inherently based around fighting the other god so that's ok)
B&W is quite fun but unfortunately I've never managed to get the final island to not crash every 15 minutes.
B&W 1 > B&W 2
Don't think you'll be the top-god without doing some seriously under-handed shit.
I'm talking like, on a few of the levels when I didn't have enough influence to send emissaries and breeders over to convert the other cities?
Fucking bank boulders off of mountains to perform sniper-ass pop-shots on rival temples. Dirty as shit, but it does the job.
You also have to train your animal proper.
As a "Good God"
I'd train my animal to be decent as FUCK around mortal beings and their shit.
But as soon as another diety-animal steps foot on the land?
Ooooh shit son, you better believe I let them do some dirty ass shit. We're talking nut-shots, ALL FUCKIN' DAY, with me throwing fucking fireball hay-makers on the side, and my animal throwing their own shit right in their damn face.
WORLD-STAR YOU FUCKING SCRUB DIETY
Crocodile or bust
>not just having your followers dance around nice looking rocks until they start glowing and get your god symbol floating above them, then lobbing them into towns controlled by other gods to convert them.
I don't want to literally fuck the animals, I just want to do some crazy hijinx with them. Whether that's throw them around, make them fuck with other animals, or just make them abominations.
Impossible Creatures.
I love the black & white games. I think that the second one holds up better than the first one. Don't forget From Dust though which is also a nice god game more focused on manipulating the nature/environment.
I guess, but I don't want puzzle stuff. I want more sandbox-esque games.
It really pains me to no end that the black and white games are not available digitally and that no one seems to be interested in god games anymore. Think about how cool a new god game could be.
>Think about how cool a new god game could be.
I try not to, it hurts too much
Hey
I'm replaying it right now and it's still very fun. The only thing that bothers me is that villages don't seem to be very sustainable. When i start I try to make farmers and lumberjacks, then breeders and artisans, but it's never enough. The resources seem scarce as fuck, and building is just tedious. Maybe I just play the game wrong, any tips? Also my creature (tiger) is very dumb and takes ages to learn.
>there will never be a Black&White 3, based on the first one but with the creature education system of the second one and the comfiness of its city-building
why live
sorry user, but the only way to make sustainable use of ressources in the firdt game is to play slow as fuck. Never use lumberjacks: pick up wood by yourself when you need it, and never exploit a forest entirely
>my creature (tiger) is very dumb and takes ages to learn
Yeah, the Tiger is good in combat but is a dumbass (and needs meat, a non-renewable ressource, which can screw you for some quests as he'll eat the sheep you're supposed to get back to the sheppard). There's not much you can do about it, you just picked the worst creature. Sorry.
Ape master race
Peter Molyneux's Godus is the apex of the god game genre. You can literally do anything. It's incredible. Go buy it.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
WE'VE GOT THIS NOTION
THAT WE'D QUITE LIKE TO SAIL THE OCEAN
SO WE'RE BUILDIN' A BIG BOAT TO LEAVE HERE FOR GOOD
WE'RE NOT KEEN ON SINKIN'
SO WE'RE ALL SITTIN' HERE A THINKIN'
COS WE BUILT IT TOO BIG AND WE'VE RUN OUT OF WOOD
EIDLE EIDLE EEE
EIDLE EIDLE EE
WE SIMPLY CAN'T LEAVE TILL WE GET SOME MORE WOOD
It was pretty much the start of the molyneux hype meme
This is one of the genres that fell victim to the death of PC developers and the consolidation of the industry.
go to bed peter molyneux.
People love them, but I just fucking hated both from the moment I tried them. I still hate them. They're shit.
B&W 2 is fucking awful. Don't touch it.
>archers incredibly OP
>monkey objectively best choice
>game never tells you about influence that lets you go past the green circle
>blacksmith not added until expansion
Like literally all of Molyneux's games.
Godus looks really cute.
But I'm not hearing anyone talking about it being any kind of decent game.
They are pretty bad games. Purchased both back in the day and regretted it a lot. I would advise against.
Huh. Hadn't thought about that game in ages.
Now that Dolphin is almost perfected, I should get to play it.
2 is just confusing. No custom games or skirmishes, just a 9 map campaign with the first third of it being tutorials. Only five creatures, too.
Ape > Lion > Cow > Tiger >>>>> Wolf
The first Dungeon Keeper pretty much delivered on every promise.
Doesn't mean it's a perfect game, but I can't recall anything missing.
It's you who will gonna be playing them, not us.
Just go out and try them.
Always seemed to me like 2 tried to get by on the at-the-time impressive dynamic road and wall building system.
>But I'm not hearing anyone talking about it being any kind of decent game.
They aren't even working on it anymore. Development on the game went so horridly that they just gave up. Peter stepped down as CEO.
They released three versions, and Peter is still the owner of 22 Cans, even if he might not be CEO. Source on that, by the way?
But yeah, I'd imagine the games never included all the tall promises made in the Kickstarter.

>But yeah, I'd imagine the games never included all the tall promises made in the Kickstarter.
Doesn't even have rudimentary multiplayer of any sort.
steamcommunity.com
They haven't updated the game/s in years now.
It's been a long while but I'm pretty sure B&W was fucking fantastic and B&W2 was complete shit restricting you to a shitty storyline and not just having a map with your villiage
Don't play 2. it has a bug midway through the game on the island with the oil fields that always crash the game.
It makes sense to stop at SOME point, and they've been making The Trail, so I am not really surprised they aren't updating it.
Maybe if that is a success, they will try to clean up some of the mess, but that might quickly end up as too little too late.
B&w2 was the start of Peter fucking up. They promised multiplayer and never delivered. B&w 1 had some cool features that never made it into b&w2.
You got Godus and Godus Wars to play, totally not shit and not smartphone shit tier.
God damn, B&W2 looks so good. Too bad the god gameplay itself is so watered down from first one. I wouldn't mind so much if the city building and management was done well, but it has depth of a puddle.
>It makes sense to stop at SOME point
The game isn't anywhere close to being finished though. As I said it doesn't even have multiplayer.
B&W2 was so unfinished that if it were released today, it would've been in early access
The amount of unused assets in the game files is staggering
B&W1 is a blast, but the creature is tedious and basically exists to fuck things up.
B&W2 is a shitty town sim with more focus on the creatures and less sandbox stuff. There's some neat additions to miracles but it's not worth it. Avoid.
How do I play Black and White 2?
>it was underwhelming as fuck after it came out
it didnt live up to all of molyjew's promises, but it was still a really great game. lots of fun to be had.
Don't worry, there's a very in-depth unskippable tutorial to help you out.
