played it around christmas, it was ok
if you like shitty resident evil clones
That would be 2.
I actually do, they are my favorite games.
I enjoyed both 1 and 2.
They got a lot of shit at the time they came out for being "Like resident evil" despite not being like resident evil outside of being passingly the horror genre and using fixed cameras.
Yes
I didn't enjoy it at all.
It's not like Resident Evil at all, it's an ugly, terribly paced jRPG with absolutely retarded characters. I got up to the the proper introduction to the Japanese doctor in post-evacuated city and just dropped it.
what are some good RE clones then ffs
>dat lineup
fuck Spirits Within
I really liked ObsCure, but you have to ditch the AI partner because they'll chew through resources. Just make them wait at the safehouse outside of the "co-op sections" which is just grabbing any AI NPC to get a boost to a vent to grab an optional item or something.
Cold Fear is a lot of fun and very unconventional with the aiming view switch, but does suffer from a lack of variety.
Fear Effect has amazing aesthetic, although kinda shitty everything else.
Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare is just plain good. Yeah I know technically AitD came first, whatever.
Obviously Silent Hill, but that's very narrative driven at the expense of mechanics and the overworlds get boring quick.
All that comes to mind when I'm put on the spot.
Agreed, AITD4 is great, in particular the PC GOG re-release, it has crazy high quality backgrounds and fully remapable controls with gamepad support.
Cold Fear is also pretty good, I enjoyed it a lot when it came out a decade ago.
Yes its really good. It blends action gameplay with RPG elements really well. The combat is all about positioning and dodging attacks, all damage can be avoided if you are good enough. But there are also a lot of skills that make it easier, and a pretty cool indepth weapon customization system that lets you create a gun that fits your desired playstyle. You really have to play the NG+ bonus dungeon to explore the game's full potential though, because otherwise the main story ends too soon
Obscure is absolutely shit. It's clunk, its low budget, it has shit art style and it seems like a parody of those 90s b-type college horror flicks
>It's clunk
It ain't clunk, man, you're Speedy Gonzales compared to most RE games.
The only real clunk is the melee, which you literally never have to use. Unless you're playing on Hard in which case my condolences.
Yes. 1 is an action RPG that wears a RE-esque skin - combat is COMPLETELY unlike a survival horror and more like Chrono Trigger if anything I suppose, and navigating the world feels kind of like FF7 with fixed cameras. Parasite Eve II, however, is much more of a straight RE clone, though I didn't play too much of that one myself. Might give it another try someday.
>parody of those 90s b-type college horror flicks
This is a bad thing?
Fatal Frame if you are a fan of the first RE. It has a cool convoluted interconnected mansion to explore with rewarding backtracking. The resources aren't exactly limited but you wont be wasting them mindlessly that's for sure.
clunk doesnt mean movement speed
it means you can feel the game is about to crash with every step you take
it was made by frenchmen so that explains it
i like to watch people play them on youtube then skip to the end after it gets boring (10 minutes or so). can't imagine playing this shitfest.
muh atmosphere
good idea for a battle system though. 8/10
Dino Crisis 1 and 2 are worth a shot.
3 is its own thing.
I'm not sure any survival horror outside of RE1 really went full hog on limiting your resources to force you to run around enemies.
It's a holiday tradition for me.
Oh God, this. Anyone looking for a tight experience like RE1 is really only well served by the first game though. I feel like 2 is far too easy and deemphasized some nuances of combat, 3 drags on for too long and the house sections feel like a worse take on SH4's attempt, and 4/5 went over the shoulder even if the design of the games didn't really change too much. 1, however, has a suffocatingly bleak atmosphere and occasionally brutal difficulty even if some aspects aren't as polished as later games. I ultimately like them all but I feel like 1 is the best survival horror experience in the series.
It's pretty damn good. The controls can be clunky at times, but the atmosphere and soundtrack are phenomenal.
Shimomura is my goddess.

Then do I have the Resi clone for you
Literally probably one of my all time favorite games. I wouldn't call it a Resident Evil clone. It tried to ride the waves of survival horror breaking out.
Worth playing through. I've beaten the game numerous times. I even went back and just replayed the second, which I haven't done in ten years?
I had more fun replaying these games than anything recent to be honest.
cold fear is a steaming pile of shit
>I had more fun replaying these games than anything recent to be honest.
I know that feel. Just replayed Megaman Legends 2 for the first time in many years and I still loved it like I did when I was a kid.
cooomfy as fuck.
anyway, RE clone. Good one too since REmake nicked a pretty important mechanic off it.
.. it was a sequel from the book and its not even close to a clone el autismo magnifico.
Its a good game.
Don't listen to them it's fun as hell with an interesting story/world
Pretty unique gameplay as well
Fear Effect has amazing everything once you learn how to play it. You will die a lot at first.
I play it on my pc and ps3 and never get that feeling.
It was okay, starts off really strong but loses steam towards the end of disc 1. Disc 2 was absolutely awful. I felt like this could have been a single disc game if they had tightened it up a bit and removed some dead air and boring areas.
PE2 is leaps and bounds better.
>bonus dungeon
what
>otherwise the main story ends too soon
What else does it add? I thought it was the same thing but you kept all your stuff.
Wrong. It's cheesy and clumsy at times but it's definitely a great game and fun to play through.
Gameplay is mediocre, but holy fuck the OST is amazing. It seemed to be ahead of its time.
Chrysler Building.
Parasite Eve 1>Book>, All the rest are shit, Here's a video explaining why
youtube.com
Chrystler Building. Basically you have like, ten floors, then a boss if I remember right.
You can find some cool loot there. Basically beat the tower and unlock the true ending.
sheeeeeit
I still have the save file to do ng+, backlog grows evermore.
>amazing everything
Haha get fucked, not even that guy. I played both games through one weekend and I enjoyed them because they are a unique memento from the best era of gaming, but i will never touch those broken pieces of shit ever.
>bullet sponge enemies
>MGS-like inventory but in real fucking time
>terrible trial and error physical puzzles
>terrible story that disappoints you hard because initially overall game seems well thought-out
It has nice art style but that's it.
the first one isnt a resi clone
the second one is a decent resi clone, with magic and better gunplay
It's literally the plot of South Korea rn fym
What a shit opinion.
RE2 and RE3 are definition of meaty and satisfying guns. I liked the guoporn of PE2 on paper but in practice they all felt the same.
>bawww can't wrap my head around tank controls
Millenials were a mistake.
oh, i wasnt really thinking of resi 2+3
yeah the only useful spells were the necrosis ones, healing, and some of the dmg buffs
though you can just avoid most attacks
don't get me wrong, I love pe2, but its a weird relationship. I most of the times just give up on the beginning of disc 2. Disc 1 is comfy with the americana desert town, then the shitty aimless roaming through the lab gets the best of me.
It's goddamn awesome!
I only recently got to play it via emulators, as Square's morons never brought it to EU. I'd creamed all over it back when I was all into old RE and FF games on PS1, and I still got some nostalgic vibes playing it now.
